Take a Load off Your Heart: 109 Things You Can Actually Do to Prevent, Halt and Reverse Heart Disease6 reviews
Joseph C. Piscatella, Barry A. Franklin

Workman Publishing Company, 2003

How to survive a heart attack
While going through cardiac rehab after my heart attack, I picked up this book and began reading it on the treadmill at the hospital. That's how desparate I was! The authors give a thorough review of the current information on cardiac health and how to maintain it. No surprises, just a low-fat, low-salt diet, exercise, reduce stress, and take your meds. They describe all the meds and their ...

The Chronicles of the $700 Pony21 reviews
Ellen Broadhurst

Half Halt Press, Inc., 2006

Wonderful!
This book is so hysterically funny, and so true to life. Anyone who loves animals, and certainly horses will love every word of this true story of the trials and triumphs in training the horse and rider to be a competitive team. Anyone can relate to the juggling act that kids, horses and a working farm involve, and the fact that just when you think things are going according to plan that ...

Ahlerich: The Making of a Dressage World Champion4 reviews
Reiner Klimke

Half Halt Press, 1986

The story behind the 1984 Olympic Gold Medal in Dressage
Most people know who these two are. If you do not, Reiner Klimke and Ahlerich won the Olympic Gold Medal in 1984. In the book Klimke reveals the full story behind their achievements. Seems Ahlerich was difficult and headstrong. I was given the book as a gift and to my surprise I really enjoyed the story. I was sorry the book ended. I think the book is fun, interesting with warmth and humor, ...

An Apple a Day: A Heartwarming Collection of True Horse Stories4 reviews

Half Halt Pr, 2000

Long -awaited contribution
I am glad someone had finally put together a collection of true horse stories. The stories in this book are not all amazing, but most are only subtly enchanting. They will warm your heart, sometimes bring you to tears. There are, of course, a few astounding tales told in this book. To state an example: the boy who had never spoken before until he saw a pony and said 'Oh! pony!' Some stories have ...

Ten Golden Rules of Horse Training: Universal Laws for All Training Levels and Riding Styles5 reviews
Bruce Nock

Half Halt Press, 2004

Excellent!
I wish this book had been available five years ago when I first became involved with horses. Dr. Nock's "Ten Golden Rules" is the first book anyone interested in training a horse - or even owning one - should read. Except for clearly outlining a procedure for tactfully establishing your superior rank within your 'herd', this is not a 'How To' recipe book. Instead, Dr. Nock explains basic learning ...

The Dark Horse3 reviews
Jenny Hughes

Half Halt Press, 1994

The Dark Horse
I loved this book. "The Dark Horse" was a really good read--the type of thing you truly enjoy snuggling up with. It's about a 16-year-old girl ,Liz, who helps save Tanglewood, the stable she's been riding and working at since she was 9. Liz, the owner of the stable and the owner's son have to solve a rather puzzling mystery to save Tanglewood. Through this book Liz grows closer to a particular ...

Classical Horsemanship for Our Time2 reviews
Jean Froissard, Lily Powell

Half Halt Press, 1988

Great book - lots of detail - Natural Horsemanship
This book presents the classical foundation of dressage from France. I was quite surprised to find that everything covered here has been covered by my "Natural Horsemanship" trainer. There is a whole chapter about flexions. He stresses a relaxed horse and reminds us that the classical movements can not be done correctly without pure relaxation. I loved the book! It was incredibly motivating.

Halt!: I'm a Federal game warden : the amazing career of "the toughest game warden of them all"4 reviews
Willie J Parker

D. McKay Co, 1977

A true insight
Parker is candid in his duties and leaves no detail out. At times, the stories he tells left me angry and other times they left me crying. You can tell the true dedication to his job in this book. A must read for any one in wildlife or law enforcement.

Principles of Riding (Official Instruction Handbook of the German National Equestr)4 reviews
German National Equestrian Federation St

Half Halt Press, 1997

Absolutely the best addition to my library!
If you don't have much to invest in books on riding and dressage, do yourself a favor and get this one. I have Jane Kidd's Dressage Essentials and Sylvia Loch's Riding in Lightness, and I really enjoy both of those also, but Principles gets down to the real nitty gritty with excellent explanations and clear drawings. I'm one of those novice, overage riders with a new, relatively green horse, and ...

A Great Reference Book

I recommend it to everyone who is willing to start his and his horse's training with the basics and to build on them. ...

Halt, Hass, and Hasa Explained: Accelerated Reliability Techniques4 reviews
Harry W. McLean

ASQ Quality Press, 2000

Best book on the subject so far
In this book Harry goes into hands on detail and doesn't just reiterate the theory. His explanations are complete and his guidelines are short and easy to follow. I especially found interest in his use of sigma values to determine the levels of energy a product MUST be able to endure, this gives us an educated guess into when you should fix a weekness without question and when you should take ...

Beyond the Rainbow Bridge2 reviews
Kimberly Gatto

Half Halt Press, Inc., 2005

Excellent book
I discovered this book when I was struggling with the decision to have my 23 year old horse put down. I read it, teary eyed, from cover to cover the night I received it. This book allowed me to see that the feelings I was having were perfectly normal and I was not alone. It also helped me to learn what to expect when the time came. I would like to thank Kimberly Gatto for taking the time to ...

Dancing with Your Horse2 reviews
Libby Anderson; Leigh Ann Hazel-Groux

Half Halt Press, 2003

It is a good starting place for freestyle to music
I am an Intro level dressage rider, with high aspirations! I got this book for some insight into how to start planning my future "musical freestyle." It is very precise and helpful for a novice like me, and I highly recommend it for anyone trying to plan their musical debut. It tells how to start, what kinds of music to consider, how to align the music with your horse's gaits and rhythm, and ...
