The American Sign Language Handshape Starter: A Beginner's Guide1 review
Richard A. Tennant, Marianne Gluszak Brown

Gallaudet University Press, 2002

Deceiving Cover
I bought the book off the shelf in a book store based on the cover. The cover shows photos of hand signs leading people to believe that is how all the signs are presented. They are not! The book on the shelf was sealed in plastic, so it wasn't until I got it home that I discovered the all signs are presented in cartoon form. The material itself is easy to understand and use. But if you're ...

The American Sign Language Handshape Flash Cards Set I2 reviews
Richard A. Tennant, Marianne Gluszak Brown

Gallaudet University Press, 2002

The Best ASL Flashcards
I highly recommend these flashcards because they coincide with what's in the book with the same title. They are in large print with very easy to follow instructions and the actual cards are large in themselves for easy handling. A definate must buy and worth the money.

The American Sign Language Handshape Dictionary24 reviews
Richard A. Tennant, Marianne Gluszak Brown

Gallaudet University Press, 1998

Definitely Recommended For Intermediate ASL Students
I highly recommend this book for intermediate students of sign language. If you're a hearing parent of a deaf child, you don't need to read this book first - buy it after you've taken a basic sign language class, because the concepts will make more sense after you've had some basic experience with sign language.

Have You Ever Seen...? An American Sign Language Handshape DVD/Book2 reviews
Smith, Adonia K. and Jacobowitz, ...

ASL Rose, 2006

Going beyond learning. . .
Most books I've read that discuss American Sign Language focus on the surface aspects of the language. HYES digs deeper and challenges us in fun and colorful ways to think about the shape of language. Not only is this a wonderful book for those who simply want something entertaining to read-- it is an excellent teaching tool. In addition to the creative, vibrant pictures that offer many ...

The American Sign Language Handshape Game Cards.1 review
Frank Allen Paul

Dawnsign Press, 1988

Understand what these cards are before you buy
Unless you already know some sign language, the use of these cards is limited. They will be most useful for a teacher of ASL. Each of the 52 cards just has a drawing of a hand; 26 of them are the manual alphabet, there are numbers and a few more (classifiers). The "translation" of the sign is not printed on the card, you have to figure it out from the instruction booklet. Many games are listed ...
