Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days94 reviews
Jeff Kinney

Amulet Books, 2009

My child loves this series!
My son is not overly excited about reading but when a new "Wimpy Kid" book comes out, he wants it right away and will read it in one night. He loves the books so much he has read them again and again! The charecter is someone that young kids can identify and laught with. It is a great book.

Arguing with Idiots: How to Stop Small Minds and Big Government388 reviews
Glenn Beck, Kevin Balfe

Threshold Editions, 2009

Glenn Beck: a modern Thomas Paine
As I understand it, Glenn Beck devoted a few hours of his time each night to write this fine book. Tired as he must have been from his jobs as talk radio and Fox News host, he miraculously mustered the strength to write a modern political classic. In simple, easy-to-read prose free from the big and ineffective words favored by leftist "intellectuals," Glenn explains the current hot-button issues. ...

Kathryn Stockett

Open: An Autobiography100 reviews
Andre Agassi

Knopf, 2009

Quite frankly, a fascinating book for just about everybody
I am just a few years older than Andre Agassi, and I played tennis as a child and then for my high school. But I hadn't actually cared at all about tennis, or even thought about it, in more than 20 years until I picked up this book. Holy smokes!!! Because I was living in New York City in the late summer of 2006, I casually caught Agassi's farewell speech at the U.S. Open that year. Pretty ...

The Lost Symbol1844 reviews
Dan Brown

Doubleday Books, 2009

Good, fun read.
The Lost Symbol is a fun read - typical Dan Brown. Assuming you've read Brown's other books, this one is no different in that the story grabs you from the beginning and quickly has you turning page, after page, after page. What's always enjoyable is Brown's way of weaving truth and fiction together and this book has plenty of this. Personally, and despite that I'm absolutely not an historian, ...

Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)4828 reviews
Stephenie Meyer

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2008

Best book I've ever read
Breaking Dawn was the perfect culmination to a great series. It is by far the best book I've ever read. Now understand, it's not perfect, there are a lot of misused words in the book. That said, I care more about the story, and the story is what makes this book as great as it is. I won't put anything specific spoiler-wise in here, but the bottom line is that Stephenie Meyer actually dared to go ...

The Twilight Saga Collection1876 reviews
Stephenie Meyer

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2008

I couldn't put the books down
The Twilight Saga is definitely the best book series I have ever read and I read a lot. They were so romantic and I found all of the characters so easy to relate to. I love how Ms. Meyer mixes fantasy with real life, everyday situations. There is no need to be Team Edward or Team Jacob before you read these books because by the time you're done, you'll be Team Twilight all the way. I love how the ...

Going Rogue: An American Life525 reviews
Sarah Palin

HarperCollins, 2009

Inspirational....read it....loved it....buying more to encourage others
Unlike some of these other "reviewers" I actually read the book. In fact, I just finished it this morning. The critics look at Sarah Palin as simplistic and naive. And that's just it. She can boil down difficult scenarios into understandable terms. That's one of the beauties of this woman. She can explain her opinion so that everyone can understand it. You don't have to agree with her ...

Under the Dome: A Novel170 reviews
Stephen King

Scribner, 2009

Classic King once again
To put it plain and simple, this is a very, very good book. I've read most of King's novels over the years and this one doesn't disappoint. It's classic King. This is one of those books that you can't stop thinking about after you've set it down. Would highly recommend to anyone!

I, Alex Cross35 reviews
James Patterson

Little, Brown and Company, 2009

Patterson's Back
Possibly because Patterson wrote the book himself, this is one of his best. The title is a bit deceptive b/c the beloved Cross family member is not who you think. But all turns out in the end, although the ending was rather anticlimactic. Would have given this one a 5, but the ending just didn't do anything for me. Great read. Enjoy!!!!

This series of books are one of the best I've ever read in children books....My kids love them also

U is for Undertow (Kinsey Millhone Mystery)7 reviews
Sue Grafton

Putnam Adult, 2009

U is for the Ubiquitious Queen of Alphabet Soup titled mysteries
U is for the ubiquitous queen of Alphabet Soup titled mysteries. Any Sue Grafton novel reads like a welcomed but long-overdue letter from iconic private eye, Kinsey Millhone, bringing readers up to speed with her latest escapade. Following "T is for Trespass" Grafton (who earned the title of Grand Master by Mystery Writers of America) has made a quantum leap by taking on social issues in the last ...

The Lacuna: A Novel47 reviews
Barbara Kingsolver

Harper, 2009

A literary delight
"The Lacuna" is a fascinating journey told through journal entries, letters, and news clippings. I read about this book prior to purchasing it and wasn't sure I would enjoy the format. I have read stories told through journal entries before and never enjoyed them. But Barbara Kingsolver avoids the limitations of that style by inventing a character who writes as though he's living a novel. ...

The Book of Basketball: The NBA According to The Sports Guy65 reviews
Bill Simmons

ESPN, 2009

Simmons is the best in the bizz
Big book is 700 hundred pages but it is such a quick read if you are any kind of basketball fan

Have a Little Faith: A True Story93 reviews
Mitch Albom

Hyperion, 2009

Uplifting & makes you reflect
Really hit home for me. Makes you really think hard & deep about how you are prioritizing. Makes you realize more the value of people around you & your loved ones. Makes you realize the beauty of those around you that you just fail to notice because you're too busy minding your own life.

SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance122 reviews
Stephen J. Dubner

William Morrow, 2009

Well written and balanced
This is not quite as good as the first but still excellent. The poor ratings for this book are certainly not warranted. The fact that this book has stirred so much emotion and outrage is a good enough reason why you should read it. Agree with the material or not, this is one of the most thought provoking books of the year and should not be skipped.

Ford County: Stories45 reviews
John Grisham

Doubleday, 2009

Versatile and Entertaining
I haven't read many of the Grisham novels, but was pleased to come across this fine collection of entertaining stories, which verify the author's talent and versatility. My only complaint would be that a few of these tales seemed a bit longer than necessary. Perhaps a tad too much filler? Nonethess, I highly recommend this collection, which will provide a good deal of reading entertainment for ...

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book89 reviews
Jeff Kinney

Amulet Books, 2008

My son loves this book! and the whole series
I purchased this book for my son; it arrived promptly and he was thrilled. He's been carrying it around ever since. Oh, with a pencil, too, so that he can "Do It Himself" Can't wait for the next book, I've already got it on pre-order!

Pirate Latitudes: A Novel43 reviews
Michael Crichton

Harper, 2009

A breezy read, Crichton in rare-form!
I can best sum up this book as being Crichton-lite; it is a fast read, well-researched yet manic-paced and crisp. There is none of Crichton's underlying commentary or any of the 'ripped from the headlines' sensationalism. This is Crichton harkening back to his early works like Eaters of the Dead and The Great Train Robbery. It is a bite-sized book about a pirate raid, without the cliched ...
