The South Beach Diet Cookbook (The South Beach Diet)92 reviews
Arthur Agatston

Rodale Books, 2004

Now that's what I like - diet recipes that are also tasty!
The recipe book and its companion paperback guide make it easy to sort out where all the "sugar" and "fats" are hidden in the prepared foods at the grocery store so you can make healthy decisions according to your own needs. The recipes are good - some a bit too fancy for our tastes - but all can me modified with the foods and spices on the lists that you like. We've also found several new ...

When Bad Things Happen to Good People126 reviews
Harold S. Kushner

Anchor, 2004

a healing message
This book has helped me overcome the hurdles of hating God and hating myself. Rabbi Kushner offers the profoundly comforting insight that God may not be all-powerful, may not be able to prevent tragedy, and is neither punishing us nor abandoning us by allowing it. The rabbi postulates that God gave humanity free will and will not take back that gift in order to intervene in human evil. God set in ...

The Faith: What Christians Believe, Why They Believe It, and Why It Matters50 reviews

Zondervan, 2008

A comprehensive overview of Christ and His call
A must read for any person curious about Christ or seeking to grow in their understanding of Christ and the church, both in historical context and in our walk today. A necessary challenge to the Church in today's social/political/moral climate.

Lincoln President-Elect: Abraham Lincoln and the Great Secession Winter 1860-18615 reviews
Harold Holzer

Simon & Schuster, 2008

Holzer's best effort
Harold Holzer is one of America's finest historians -- a man celebrated for both his vast knowledge of Civil War-era events, as well as his fluid and readable writing style. His latest effort, Lincoln, President-Elect: Abraham Lincoln and the Great Secession Winter 1860-61, is perhaps his finest work of recent vintage. He focuses on the crucial four-month period between the Election of 1860 and ...

We Are Soldiers Still: A Journey Back to the Battlefields of Vietnam13 reviews
Harold G. Moore, Joseph L. Galloway

Harper, 2008

Poignant Story of War & Rememberance
This is a true story of soldiers going back to the scene of an event that shaped their lives, the bloody Battle of the Ia Drang Valley in 1965. Don't expect a war story, but rather a cathartic work of immense value to every politician who ever considered starting a war and anyone who ever fought one. I served with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam as a machine-gunner('66-'67)and think this is ...

The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby56 reviews
George Beard, Harold Hutchins

Scholastic, 2002

My son love's it!
We first read this book when my son was in Kindergarten. He and his dad laughed hysterically. Of course it talks about poo and he's at that age where that's funny stuff.

BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series)26 reviews
Kyung Won Chung, Harold M Chung

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2007

BRS Gross Anatomy Review
Very succint review of all of gross anatomy. The pictures are okay, but you should probably keep an atlas of human anatomy around. The questions after each chapter are indicative of the questions I've experienced in medical school. Overall, this is probably the best way to prepare for class and boards.

Mastering APA Style: Student's Workbook and Training Guide Fifth Edition17 reviews
Harold Gelfand, Charles J. Walker

American Psychological Association (APA), 2002

Great Supplemental Tool
I purchased this workbook for my graduate students. It has helped most of them become familiar with what they need to know about APA, and exposed them to aspects of APA they would not normally care about. They all say it is a lifesaver.

Med School Confidential: A Complete Guide to the Medical School Experience: By Students, for Students18 reviews
Robert H. Miller, Dan Bissell

St. Martin's Griffin, 2006

Gift that went well
Bought this for my girlfriend who is going to MedSchool. She seems happy as a pup with two tails about this book. I don't know how, Med students creative writing skills are worst that a sloth, but I don't think they care much for creative so much as they look for factual data.

Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West (Modern Library)309 reviews
Cormac McCarthy

Modern Library, 2001

A very good, dark read...
I read this in 2001, at the suggestion of a good friend, and completely enjoyed the book. It's pretty dark, but is a compelling tale of a man's journey in the old west. I especially enjoyed the sinister character that keeps re-appearing and could be more than just a man.. seems like the same character turns up in lots of Cormac McCarthy's books. Overall, I would recommend this book

Perfect Gift for Those Serving Time
I you have a loved one doing some unfortunate incaraceration time, this is a great gift. It helps pass the time, promotes humorous conversation with other cellis, and it stimulates the mind. True Crime: An American Anthology1 review
Harold Schechter

Library of America, 2008

This is a winner for fans of true crime
I hate to admit this publicly, but this excellent anthology highlights Americans' (including guilty me) macabre fascination with crime through famous authors who over the years, especially the last few decades, have made this into a powerful genre. The collection starts in colonial times with Puritan documents and Ben Franklin; runs into the nineteenth century with Bierce, Hawthorne and Mark ...

We were Soldiers Once...And Young: Ia Drang--The Battle That Changed The War In Vietnam250 reviews
Harold G. Moore, Joseph L. Galloway

Random House, 1992

A MOVING TRIBUTE.
Unlike some of my reviews, I plan to keep this one rather short. With the number of reviews here, most of what I would say would be rather redundant. Suffice to say that I have not read a book that touched me more in quite some time now. While I was not there, as I was serving in another area at this time, I did have friends who were; some made it out, others did not. I cannot imagine the ...
