OK, so we know the author......
It wouldn't have mattered if we hadn't! This book is a must for Central Pennsylvania residents, of course. However, I feel that the book would be enjoyed by any reader with an interest in Black America. A good read!

Letters from Harrisburg: Ordinary Days by Dorcas Smucker
We all have ordinary days, don't we? Most of us don't make a book out of them, although we would have enough experiences to do so. No doubt they'd be just as fascinating as the days that Dorcas has written about. It's the way we look at life that counts. It's then that ordinary days become extra-ordinary. Because those days are filled with family, friends, daily and not so daily events and ...

, 2007
After five years of research, Todd Mealy has provided a monographic perception of the Antislavery Movement. By focusing on the struggles between antislavery and proslavery residents of Harrisburg during the first half of the 19th century, Mealy shows that Pennsylvania?s capital city was just as important in the movement against slavery as some of the larger, more documented cities like Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. Invaluable for its ...

Today I had to run across the Susquehanna River to get a birthday cake for my wife at Dingeldein's Bakery (yum!!). How to get there? I go to my trusty Metro Harrisburg map and check out the route (I also use Mapquest, but it has its quirks, so I like to double check against a real map). ADC creates maps for regions all over the place. I have four of these for central PA (including the ...

Jessica Dorman

, 2002
Harrisburg was the capital of an increasingly urban and progressive Pennsylvania at the turn of the twentieth century, with the remnants of an older, more diverse city thriving in its midst. As the streets were paved for the first time and the new state capitol building rose over a humming industrial city ready to embrace change, Harrisburgís Eighth Ward clung to its rambunctious past. When the ìOld Eighthî stood in the way of the new Capitol ...
