Jewish Holidays11 reviews
Michael Strassfeld

Harper Paperbacks, 1993

An Excellent Resource for Non-Jews Too
As a non-Jew, I found this book very informative, not only about Jewish holidays per se, but also aspects of Jewish history and trends in Jewish thinking. What's more, this book has helpful appendices, including a glossary of Hebrew terms. Interestingly, the author of this book does not feel the need to dispense with BC and AD in favor of BCE and CE. This book provides information on such ...

Holiday are Hell
this book is a series of short stories, each from a different author. They are all good in their own right.

Bound for the Holidays (Ties That Bind book 1)19 reviews

Samhain Publishing, Ltd., 2006

Merry Christmas!
One thing that I always love about Mackenzie's books is the strong sense of place. I don't know if it's because I used to live in Arizona or what, but I loved the description of Scottsdale during the Holidays in this book. Ryan was, of course, a very sexy hero. And he fell hard for Angela. The addition of his good friend to the, uh, Christmas festivities was VERY nice.

Holiday in Death65 reviews
J.D. Robb

Berkley, 1998

Another Robb Winner! Reviewer: Renee S. N.Y.C.
#7 in the series, and the stories keep getting better. This time Eve not only has to deal with the vicious Santa Claus killer, but also with her first Christmas with Roarke. I'm finding that I am as much interested in the details og Eve's life as I am with the main plot, which is, as always, a well-crafted and tightly written thriller. Furthermore, in this one I didn't figure out who the ...

Tuscan Holiday10 reviews
Holly Chamberlin

Kensington, 2008

Great Read
I read this in a day because the writing was excellent and the story relevant. With two grown daughters of my own, I could understand all that Elizabeth was feeling. At the same time, I was interested in Marina's viewpoint. This book is thought provoking and applicable to real life.

a great escape
I loved this book with its four short stories. All were very intriguing, suck you in, can't stop till your finished kind of stories. Thank goodness they are short or I would have been up all night reading.

Palm Springs Holiday8 reviews
Peter Moruzzi

Gibbs Smith, 2009

A Nostalgic View of the Coachella Valley
"Palm Springs Holiday" is a fun ride through the desert city's past through photos, post cards, and other promotional items. I found myself chuckling at some of the wry asides provided in the captions. This book will be enjoyed by anyone who loves the Coachella Valley or anyone who just likes to look at post cards from the mid-twentieth century.

Holidays on Ice37 reviews
David Sedaris

Little, Brown and Company, 2008

Christmas at its best
David Sedaris is an absolutely hysterical writer and this book does not disappoint. His stories are always quirky but yet truthful and make me laugh out loud. The only thing better than reading a story he has written is listening to the audio version of it b.c there is just something about his slightly annoying voice that makes the stories sing.

Rachel's Holiday6 reviews
Marian Keyes

Penguin Books, 1998

A book for every girlfriend
This book has been purchased and given away to 12 different friends. I recommend it to anyone that has seen the addictive personality up close and have had addiction professionals use it as a fun guide to recovery. I love all of Marion Keyes books, but this one and Last Chance Saloon are my favorite rereads. I haunt the bookstores waiting for every new book to hit the shelves and share my joy ...

Holiday Heroes: A Soldier For All Seasons\Christmas At His Command (Silhouette Romantic Suspense)1 review
Rachel Lee, Catherine Mann

Harlequin, 2007

A Military Merry Christmas
This is just what the holiday season needs--a pleasant, easy "read." This book contains two stories. Rachel Lee's "A Soldier for All Seasons" deals with Jon Erikson, home on leave from Afghanistan, who is searching for solitary peace and R&R in the woods of Wyoming. But he encounters Melinda Hawthorne, a Park Ranger. Both are hiding secrets . They spend Christmas together snowed in by a ...

Holidays in Hell: In Which Our Intrepid Reporter Travels to the World's Worst Places and Asks, "What's Funny ...32 reviews
P. J. O'Rourke

Grove Press, 2000

Now you know where Borat got his storyline!
I know this book goes back to when Reagan was president and the commies were one-upping one another in Siberia, but "Holidays in Hell," now more than ever, is still a freaking hysterical book! I remember reading it after I got hooked on O'Rourke in college. I had to put the book away for the weekend, because I'd be sitting in British Lit and remember something O'Rourke said, then I'd start ...

The Last Holiday Concert16 reviews
Andrew Clements

A great Christmas story
I recomend The Last Holiday Concert by Andrew Clements because it is a very interesting book. It is not just a book for music lovers. It is also for people that like the thought of kids taking charge and the teacher who's name is Mr.Meinert lay back and relax. You will see what happens when a popular kid get in trouble and the teacher goes crazy. Hart Evens the popular guy at school starts ...

Rachel's Holiday181 reviews
Marian Keyes

Avon A, 2002

A brilliant study of drug addiction
Marian Keyes is such a wonderful writer, I believe I could read a grocery list she'd written and find it both funny and moving. In "Rachel's Holiday," I think Marian Keyes has done some of her best work. The book is hilariously funny, as all of Keyes' stories tend to be, but it is also serious and very wrenching in parts. A reader can watch Rachel go through all the stages of confronting her ...

Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K 12 Anti Racist, Multicultural Education and Staff ...3 reviews
Enid Lee

Teaching for Change, 1998

A wonderful and exciting resource
As someone in the field of anti-racist public education, I found this book very useful and thought-provoking. There are background and theory articles, lesson plans, handouts, and a complete range of resources. And all these items are in bite-size articles and excerpts that make them very practical and useful for staff and students. I was thrilled to find this book and even more thrilled to ...
