New Perspectives on Creating Web Pages with HTML, XHTML, and XML, Comprehensive, Second Edition (New ...3 reviews
Patrick Carey

Course Technology, 2005

Excellent HTML etc Textbook
One of the best books on the subject I've encountered in the last thirteen years of working with the internet. The tutorials are excellent - in that they appeared to be well debugged prior to publication. They do an excellent job in preparing a student for any of the four cases found at the end of each section. The only weakness encountered was that there was no comprehensive reference table of ...

New Perspectives on HTML, XHTML, and Dynamic HTML, Comprehensive, Third Edition4 reviews
Patrick Carey

Course Technology, 2005

Very good value
When I through the first few chapters, I liked the book already. First it emphasize that the book only covers coding on Notepad or other text editors. I think that is the best way to learn the language. It doesn't need any HTML editors to do the job. It describes the history of internet and its technologies in some of the chapters. It covers the javascript concepts clearly and shows how things ...

Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML219 reviews
Eric Freeman, Elisabeth Freeman

O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2005

I love this book!
I've been using HTML for quite a while, but I really didn't understand it -- largely because I couldn't bring myself to care. I just used my cheat sheet a lot. Having worked through thsi book, I understand it all well enough to remember it. This is the first book in the Head First series that I've used, and I hesitated because of the price. I already had an HTML book, and it seemed like an ...

HTML & XHTML: The Definitive Guide (6th Edition)144 reviews
Chuck Musciano, Bill Kennedy

O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2006

I use it everyday - the older version
I have the 3rd edition and use it most everyday in my job. I figured it would be a bit outdated so I bought this latest version. The new version is essentially the exact same as the old version and I feel like I wasted my money. It's also missing the handy quick reference the older version had. However, if you don't have an earlier version, I would definitely recommend it. It's indispensable.

Sams Teach Yourself HTML & XHTML in 24 Hours (6th Edition) (Sams Teach Yourself in 24 Hours)13 reviews
Dick Oliver, Michael Morrison

Sams, 2003

An excellent starting point
This text will not make you a wizened internet programming guru... but it doesn't pretend to do so. What it does promise, and deliver, is a solid grounding in the creation of basic web pages. The book starts with the absolute basics; nothing is assumed. Finding someone to host your web site is covered, as is the creation of files using the Windows Notepad text editor and the uploading of files ...

HTML and XHTML Pocket Reference (Pocket Reference (O'Reilly))12 reviews
Jennifer Niederst Robbins

O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2006

HTML and XHTML Pocket Reference (Pocket Reference (O'Reilly))
Una GRAN pequeña guía de referencia. A lo mejor se echan en falta algunas palabras reservadas pero por lo general es una maravilla poder consultar de forma rápida y ordenada la duda que buscas.

HTML, XHTML, and CSS, Sixth Edition (Visual Quickstart Guide)167 reviews
Elizabeth Castro

Peachpit Press, 2006

Excellent! Very well written, very simple and organized. I highly recommend this book!
I'm a reasonably computer savvy person. However, I've been wanting to develop more marketable skills in design... so, recently I've started taking classes in FLASH, ILLUSTRATOR, etc. Then I was told that it would be very beneficial for me to learn HTML and CSS, so, after reading many reviews on Amazon, I bought this book. In a matter of hours, I was designing an XHTML website for myself. I HIGHLY ...

New Perspectives on HTML and XHTML, Comprehensive12 reviews
Patrick Carey

Course Technology, 2004

Very helpful teaching tool
This was a required textbook for a XHTML class I am taking at a local community college. I have been very impressed with this book in teaching the elementary art of correct coding. Also helpful are the appendices at the end outlining colors, elements, etc. I have learned a lot from it.

Special Edition Using HTML and XHTML (Special Edition Using)5 reviews
Molly E. Holzschlag

Que, 2002

In a perfect world...
If, as I recently did, you were to buy Molly Holzschlag's outstanding "Special Edition Using HTML and XHTML" and "Eric Meyer on CSS: Mastering the Language of Web Design," you might wonder if you had awoken on some strange planet in which pricey web books were actually worth the money, and tech authors wrote at a level that both challenged, elucidated, and entertained. Molly Holzschlag's book, ...

HTML, XHTML, and CSS Bible5 reviews
Steven M. Schafer

Wiley, 2008

Perfect Textbook for Beginners
I have used this book as a textbook for an "Introduction to HTML" class I taught. I looked at several references prior to choosing on one, and this was by far the best formatted and most appropriate for those with little to no existing knowledge of HTML. The previous reviewer's complaints are mostly unfounded, in my opinion. The appendix contains a more or less comprehensive listing of all ...

HTML & XHTML: The Complete Reference (Osborne Complete Reference Series)12 reviews
Thomas Powell

McGraw-Hill Osborne Media, 2003

Pretty much complete and then some
This Reference is very very comprehensive. It also covers CSS 2.0 (completely, no need to buy a CSS 2.0 reference unless you need a learning book or a pocket reference). It also covers XML to an extend most Web Developers need to know without becoming an Authority in the subject. A lot of examples that are not always useful. The Appendixes for HTML and CSS are among the best I have seen. ...

HTML and XHTML Step by Step (Step By Step (Microsoft))6 reviews
Faithe Wempen

Microsoft Press, 2006

The First Step to Learn about Web Design
If you want to learn about web design, the first step is learning HTML and XHTML. The last official version of HTML (4.1) was released in 1999. In January, 2000, the W3C release XHTML. HTML and XHTML are very similar; XHTML uses the stricter syntax of XML. I have been looking for a book to teach an introductory HTML class. Most books I reviewed were not up-to-date. I really needed a book that ...

HTML, XHTML & CSS For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))1 review
Ed Tittel, Jeff Noble

For Dummies, 2008

A Tremendous Help!
My book arrived to an exciting new owner. I got through as much of it as I could the first weekeend, hoping to learn more about CSS and XHTML. I was overwhelmed by the ease of read and by the wealth of knowledge gained by the awesome examples! If you need HTML/XHTML/CSS help like I did, I wouldnt sleep on this book. I bought the book because I used to work with Jeff Noble and he is a good ...

Beginning Web Programming with HTML, XHTML, and CSS (Wrox Programmer to Programmer)11 reviews
Jon Duckett

Wrox, 2008

Serves it's purpose.....I like it
I had an interest in web development years ago when I invested some time going through free html tutorials online. I also spent some money on a couple of books on html as well as JavaScript, but never finished what I started. About a month ago I purchased this book to get my feet wet again, and I have to say that this book served its purpose. The title does say "Beginning Web Programming..." ...

HTML Dog: The Best-Practice Guide to XHTML and CSS7 reviews
Patrick Griffiths

New Riders Press, 2006

Best In Show
I spent some time really digging into other books in this category (library) with the intention of getting up to speed with modern web coding and best practices. I found this text to be the most useful, both as a learning resource and future reference guide and so, HTML Dog is now on my shelf. Note: The book is meant as a companion to an extensive online archive, and works well in this regard, as ...

How to Do Everything with HTML & XHTML7 reviews
James H. Pence

McGraw-Hill Osborne Media, 2003

Excellent book!!!
For a first book on this topic I found the depth of coverage and pace to be perfect. Very easy painless coverage of topic. Not too slow, and not too fast where you feel like you're lost. Nothing is taken for granted(Author assumes you know nothing), yet you are not treated like a "dummy" or "complete idiot".
