Classic Dungeons & Dragons brought to life
The copy I have is a first edition paperback, printed in 1988, but as far as I know, little has changed. I am, sadly, stunned by the poor reviews given this book as part of the "Spotlight Reviews". Salvatore burst onto the fantasy scene with this book that brings four unlikely heroes together (I'd say five, but Cattie-brie takes a backseat role in this book) - a dwarven king, a human ...

Sybex gets it right.
This represents very good value. Walkthroughs are clear and very detailed. No overly cute asides or bad attempts at humor. NPC/monster descriptions are loaded with useful info. Extensive lists of magic items, etc. ... it's just all done very well. A special Bonus Star for bothering to spell words correctly and write as if English was their first language instead of their 41st -- way above ...

What a wonderful world R.A. Salvatore has created here!
Second favorite trilogy right behind the (The dark Elf Trilogy) I cant say enough about these books. Salvatore has really opened up a new and wonderful world for me to explore. Read the Dark elf trilogy first then read the Icewind dale trilogy and you will be a Salvatore fan for life.
Icewind Dale 2 (Prima's Official Strategy Guide)

Prima's guide is nice, but not thorough.
Prima is usually the standard when it comes to strategy guides. They are pretty reknown for their in-depth walkthroughs and attention to detail, but with Icewind Dale 2, they fell somewhat short of my expectations. The guide has the "essential" information; they detail the new 3rd Edition D&D rules, providing a small glossary of 3E terms (Hit points, Armor Class, etc.) lists the new skills, feats ...

This is a good book!
I began reading the Drow series after reading all of Robert E Howards Conan series from the 20's and JRR Tolkiens LOTR and All the Original Dragonlance novels by Weis and Hickman. I thought I would give RA Salvatore and hid Drow a try. I fell in love with the stories right off the bat, starting with the Dark Elf Trilogy which is actually RAS 4-6 release , but the story goes that way first ...

Excellent
Read this years ago and recently revisited this series. One of my first from Salvatore and still a favorite. great characters and writing, and exciting action. If you like books like this one, might I suggest another I've recently come across. The Unsuspecting Mage by Brian S. Pratt. It's another fantasy adventure sure to please. I highly recommend it.

An Action Filled Journey in the Classical Fantasy Light
R. A. Salvatore can be credited with single handedly bringing The Forgotten Realms and Drizzt Do'Urden into the minds and hearts of fantasy lovers everywhere. Being one of his first serious works, The Icewind Dale trilogy is a fun and action packed story with it's strongest trait being the extraordinarily detailed characters that inhabit it's pages. The first book tells the tale of a ...

The quest for Mithril Hall
Streams of Silver picks up pretty much where the last book, The Crystal Shard, left off. Bruenor (a dwarven leader, by blood the king of the Battlehammer clan), Drizzt (a self-exiled drow elf) and Wulfgar (a young barbarian) set out on a quest to find Mithril Hall, ancestral home of Bruenor and his clan. Shortly after they leave, they are also joined by Regis (a halfling) - although they suspect ...
