What the maladaptive can teach us
As a graduate student in the field of biology and psychology, I found this to be the perfect blend of both. Although a collection of different case studies in the field of neuropsychology, anyone with even a slight interest in the understanding of the human brain will enjoy this book. Despite a large amount of clinical and science jargon, the book is easy to comprehend. This is a simple book ...

Excellent Reference Book
This is one of my favorite books. I'm very familiar/educated on a lot of this emotional stuff and I've never thrown around 5stars haphazardly. This book is full of really good useful knowledge. However, that doesn't mean that every single page or every single line will apply to your particular situation. I think that often people expect a book to be written directly for them personally. That's ...

The brilliant and shocking truth~
This book and the Passages Malibu Program are awesome. Chris Prentiss along with his Son Pax have the guts to stand up and speak out about the miserable failures of the old paradigm of alcohol and drug treatment programs. Their program is a bold step forward into the treatment of addictions and self sabbotaging behavior. There will be the old detractors who will scream from the mountain tops that ...

This is a great book. I've used previous editions, but the editing and change in text formatting make this edition more user friendly. It is complete and references ways to explore the techniques described. Perhaps the editors could make parts of it avaiable in an MP3 format.

My Book Report
I found this book most interesting. It is a shame this boy had to endure as much pain as he did both from the medications and from the way he was treated at times. His was a long journey from sickness to relative good health. It is well worth the read.

I was hesitant but...
As someone with Bipolar Disorder, I was hesitant to pick up this memoir. Some recent memoirs have tried to entertain with silly, cartoonish characters as fellow inpatients; and with those too too happy endings. I couldn't put this book down BECAUSE it was fresh and true. Bipolar disorder isn't easy, all those plans made when you were a brilliant scholar at 18 don't always come true, but you ...

Not only for depressed individuals
This book is an excellent guide for anyone who wants to improve the quality of their life, anyone who has noticed that the mind does not only solve problems but also creates them because we reject the present moment. We may have noticed also that our thoughts judge and reject our feelings and emotions. The authors offer basic and easy to implement techniques to help us live in the present ...

Schimmel Finds Humor in a Possible Death Sentence.
In many ways, Robert Schimmel is the Lenny Bruce of our times. After experiencing his performance at the Denver Comedy Works this past weekend, I read this memoir chronicling his deeply-personal, life-and-death battle with Stage III non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Bob is a stand-up comedian best known for his controversial sexual material and self-deprecating sense of humor, his HBO performances, and ...

This book has saved hundreds of thousands of liveslives!
This book tells exactly how hundreds of thousands of real alcoholics have been saved from alcoholism. How can anyone be critical of that if it works? Only the stupid, or ignorant can criticize a book which has literally saved so many people from certain death (not to mention the thousands more they could have victimized). It is truly a miracle, by virtue of all of the people it has saved. True, ...

A good explanation of how we drive ourselves nuts.
Yes, it has been said before, by various awakened sages, especially the Buddhists; and several modern Buddhists authors have also said it very well (Pema Chodron, Joko Beck, Jack Kornfield--"After the Ecstasy, the Laundry"). Even so, I enjoyed hearing the practical message again (Be willing to feel what you feel when you feel it, without avoidance or clinging). The explanations in the book ...

Impluse
I'd like to say that reading books made of poetry wasn't really my thing until a short while ago, then I came across impulse. Besides the red cover screaming at me I decided to open it up and read a few of the pieces but not before long I was hooked. The way Hopkin's poems differ from each perspective so distinctly is amazing and I love how the stories go in unexpected ways. It's a great book and ...

Outstanding Book!
This book was given to me a s a gift from my ex-wife as a gift when I got re-married. She said it would help me keep this one, and she was right! I've sonce re-purchased the book many times to help friends with adult A.D.D. learn to survive and turn this misunderstood disorder into a strength, if not at least teaching them to live and work well with others.
