Clear, concise and easy to follow
I wanted a simple guide and went for my old favourite, Visual Quickstart Series. I was not disappointed. This guide is logical, succinct and without the padding one encounters in many guides. The index is very good as well. Highly recommended

This is the one!
I've recently looked at all of the Illustrator CS4 guides/books. This is the best one in my opinion. It is straightforward, easy to use, easy to read. I am just now learning Illustrator but I have used Photoshop and Indesign so I am familiar with Adobe interfaces. There may be better books for experienced users but this is the one for beginners. My only criticism is the cover but don't let it ...

Most complete Illustrator CS4 resource
Ted Alspach really covers all the angles of using CS4 to the fullest extent. In this book you will really find enough information that might take perhaps two or more books to cover the same ground. Another book may teach you different ways to do a same task in Illustrator, but as long as the creativity is in you head, this instruction guide will clearly demonstrate just about every possible ...

A Must-Have
This is an excellent investment for anyone interested in learning how to break into the world of children's publishing. It had a ton of great information and was surprisingly easy to read cover-to-cover. The listings are great and informative, but I would recommend checking out the publisher's web sites for the most current information (ie if they are accepting unsolicited manuscripts, etc. as ...

A great resource!
I've been teaching Illustrator classes for over a dozen years now, and recently started using this book with my students. I can't say enough about its usefulness, both as an in-class textbook and as a ready reference outside of the classroom. The exercises are clear and concise, and incorporate new and existing features in a way that is easily understood by all user levels. The included DVD ...

Outstanding Book, a Pleasure to Read
As a longtime user of Illustrator (but an older, pre-CS version), I felt I had a pretty good handle on the program. Then I got Illustrator CS4, and I felt like a newbie all over again! I needed to get up-to-speed quickly on all the new features and changes,so, I started looking for a good manual, since Adobe offers no printed manual with their software. I chose this book, and I'm glad I did. ...

Adobe Illustrator CS4 Revealed
I purchased this book for my Illustrator CS4 class and was pleasantly surprised to find out that this book is one of the most complete and well organized, easy to navigate books on the subject. It lets you explore the application on your own, in your own pace and order. It has a great, detailed coverage of most used features and provides plenty of exercises you can follow to practice them. I've ...

Great companion to the CWIM
This is a great book offering guidelines to publishers and agents and is an excellent companion to the CWIM. If you write kidlit and want to be published, get an agent or find out the latest guidelines for magazine and book publishers, this book often has more in its listings than the CWIM. It's great to confirm editor's names and other pertinent info. too. This is the first time I've ordered ...

Every Young Illustrator's Bible
I teach illustration in an art college, and this is a book I recommend to all my students. Illustrators know they are artists, but often tend to forget that they are small business owners as well. Talent alone won't bring them illustration income. Until this book was published, I used to recommend How To Be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul, which is still a wonderful book to read ...

I liked this book while using the Illustrator software. It is easy to use, well-organized, and user friendly. Any graphic designer will enjoy this how-to even when they are just a beginning designer. My design skills are not advanced, with this book, the definite how-to's will do wonders for any novice designer!

excellent for beginners
I am a beginner without any previous knowledge of adobe illustrator. I have read the book from cover to cover, trying out and practicing the concepts on my laptop in illustrator after each chapter. I found the book clear and concise and conceptually fairly easy to digest, and the knowledge easy to apply when working in the actual program. I am now on my second book on cs4 illustrator which is ...

I couldn't be more dissatisfied. A ripoff!
This book was apparently written before Illustrator CS5 came out. I suspect it is based largely or entirely on previews of the software, since there are many new elements in the software that are barely covered in this book or not covered at all. The interested reader would do just as well with a good book covering Illustrator CS4.

Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market
This book was great for me because I am a first time publisher. It helps me know where to begin and helps motivate me to do more. Since I'm not an artist, I didn't know not to find the illustrator myself before submitting! It gives so many suggestions for a good procedure to follow as to not waste time sending your manuscript to places that will reject it because they don't publish that type. ...
