Another great Emily Giffin book
I'm giving this book 5 stars due to the incredible talent of Emily Giffin to present both sides to literally any situation. She has done this so effectively in all of her books and this one is no exception. I consider that to be her unique talent and she has mastered it again. Other reviewers have gone over the plot so I won't dwell on that but I will list my pro's and con's. ...

Amazing Masterpiece
Not many books have made me gasp with pleasure at the sheer beauty of the prose as did this wonderful novel. As others have said, you will not regret reading this, it is one of the best novels I have read. Several years ago I read Khaled Hosseini's "The Kite Runner" and hoped to read another novel that transported me and made me care for the characters as much. Dr. Verghese has done this and ...

The Art of Racing in the Rain
This is one of the best books that I have ever read. If you are a dog lover, you will never see your pet the same way again. Loving told from the perspective of Enzo, the dog, it has all of your emotions running at high speed. I have given this book to anyone that I know who has a great afinity to their current pet or one that they have lost to ease the pain of such a loss of part of ones ...

delicious
I enjoy fanciful stories so The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake suits my taste buds perfectly. This was the first novel i downloaded to my new Kindle and I devoured it within a day. I will think of Rose and Joe if I find myself eating while seated in a folding chair anytime soon.

an extraordinarily powerful and moving novel
I can't remember being so moved by a story about a regular ordinary family. One of Quindlen's great gifts as a novelist is her ability to capture the little moments that create lives, families, relationships. We meet this family, learn about them, experience their joys, get annoyed with them, hope for them. They matter to us. Then something happens. It's not just that everything changes. Life as ...

One of the Best!
From an old paratrooper, and an older book lover, this is more than good military fiction---it is good literature. If you have read and enjoyed Webb's Fields of Fire, or Uris's Battle Cry, you will enjoy this book. The characters, situations, and depiction of the military are "dead-on" authentic. My only hope is for the author to write more books--this is close to a masterpiece in a debut novel.

Reading At The Beach: Reviews
This is the first book by Alison Strobel I've read, and it was a doozy. The story goes back and forth from character to character. Kim is being abused by Rick, Joshua is raising his young daughter after his wife dies, and he has to deal with his in laws, and Debbie is there for everyone, know matter what they need. All the characters are multi faceted and well developed. The characters of Kim and ...

I hesitated on buying this one but it is a book I couldn't put down for long! I really enjoyed the writing style and how all the stories intertwined.

Summer reading and Claire go together like . . .
When warm weather arrives it's always nice to have something new from Claire to take to the beach. Seven Year Switch is a delightful read with characters you'll love because you'll feel like you already know each one. Like all of Claire's books, you won't want to stop reading and you'll be wanting more when you're done. In the end, Seven Year Switch leaves you rooting for "Jill" and feeling ...

Astounding. Best book I read so far this year.
I really don't give five stars all that often, but this book really knocked me out. In a series of vignettes, the author describes events in the Dutch trading colony at Nagasaki as the eighteenth century flips over to the nineteenth and the Dutch trading empire is disintegrating, giving way to English primacy on the seas. We see the events of the novel from the perspective of its protagonist, ...

WOW .....couldn't put it down!
I definately love ALL of Elin Hilderbrand books. Once I read one of them I quickly found more and didn't stop until I read them ALL. I loved this book so much because of the style in which it was written. It is so engrossing from the start that you will be obsessive about finishing it. I only wish I had slowed down because now I have to wait for her next book!

Another good book by Weiner
Despite reading the negative reviews before buying this book, I purchased it. I've really loved all of Weiner's books and I was excited to read this one. I really liked it and would recommend it to other Jennifer Weiner fans.

How I learned to stop worrying and love the cruelty of Ellis books
One of my favorite books is Spy Notes On McInerney's Bright Lights,Big City / Janowitz's Slaves Of New York / Ellis's Less Than Zero And All Those Other Hip Urban Novels Of The 1980s which is a classic of satire. For the most part I agreed with the underlying assumption that many of the books of Ellis and McInerney were without merit and just about the vacuous and the superficial. I really didn't ...

Finished this one on the beach
I cannot express enough how much I love, love, love this book. I am, admittedly, a huge Tori fan. Even if you're not, you should still read this book. Like I said in the title, I finished this one on the beach, but I have to tell you it was almost irresistable for me not to finish it before then. I laughed out loud in my beach chair several times throughout. I finished the entire book in about 3 ...

Fantastic book!
I have never been much of a reader. I have seen Emily Giffin's books at the bookstore many times, picked them up thinking they may be something I'd like but always refusing to buy them because many times in the past I have purchased books and they just collect dust on the shelf. I went to the library and checked out "Something Borrowed" earlier this week. I finished the book in 4 days!! I ...

Craft
I paid no attention to Paul Harding's debut novel, Tinkers, until it won the Pulitzer prize, when it roused my curiosity. Harding's talent soars in his choice of language and in his creation of a tone and setting that never misses a beat. As George Crosby lies dying, his memories provide the novel's momentum, and the lives and relationships of every character come to live thanks to Harding's fine ...
Fly Away Home: A Novel
Jennifer Weiner
Atria

Sometimes all you can do is fly away home . . . When Sylvie Serfer met Richard Woodruff in law school, she had wild curls, wide hips, and lots of opinions. Decades later, Sylvie has remade herself as the ideal politician?s wife?her hair dyed and straightened, her hippie-chick wardrobe replaced by tailored knit suits. At fifty-seven, she ruefully acknowledges that her job is staying twenty pounds thinner than she was in her twenties and tending ...

Small Town Sketches
Many people have recommended this book to me, and it won the Pulitzer for heaven's sake, but I'm afraid I lost interest in it well before the middle, and it took an effort to keep reading. This is not to say it's bad -- in fact, it is very good indeed for what it does. But it is essentially small in scale, and does not address many of the qualities that I look for in fiction. Elizabeth Strout ...
