Escaping Innocence (A Story of Awakening)

Realistic Coming-of-Age Novel
The scenes in Escaping Innocence were portrayed very realistically, which is something I appreciate greatly in a coming-of-age novel. I felt for the character at the end (I don't want to go overboard with any "spoilers"!) - that's something that won't happen, if I absolutely cannot stand a book. The story is viewed from the perspective of David Justin, and there is an honesty and naturalness ...

TOUCHING, DISTURBING AND UNFORGETABLE
Reader take heed. This is truly a difficult read; an emotional read and one that will haunt you. It is a book, a story which should be required reading in all of our schools. This is actually several stories all told in one book through the eyes and thoughts of Mamie Till-Mobley, the mother of Emmett Till, the young man that was brutally kidnapped, tortured, and murdered in 1955 for the ...

URGENT, POWERFUL, INTENSE, INTELLIGENT, FACTUAL, REMARKABLE
This remarkable first novel of Duncan O'Finioans brings to mind another first published in my lifetime, CATCHER IN THE RYE. INNOCENCE TURNED DEADLY has the same classical input into today's circumstances as CATCHER'S had those years ago. The urgency lies in the factual information such as when he writes about the Gestapo. Believe it. It is the Truth.

If we all just thought and acted this way...
Just wanted to thank John for writing inspiring words that convey wonderful foundational thoughts and feelings. I too am a great believer in an abundance mentality and try to live and act in the "now" every day. If the population of our world would take the time to slow down enough to contemplate and realize that we all (most?) really want the same simple things from life, what a great place ...

overwhelming account of modern slavery
Though one of the reviewer's account printed on the back page called Somaly's book 'unputdownable", I have found myself putting it down many times, so overwhelmed and stricken I was by the descriptions of the torture and behaviour inflicted upon children as young as 5 or 6 years old, who have become fodder to the child sex slavery industry. This book should be required reading in high ...

In a word? Superb
"Fall" is superb. This is the best "true crime" book I have read in years, and (author) Ron Franscell is extraordinarily talented. The book is poignant, brutal (at times), succinct (thank you, Ron!), and yet it offers hope. It is also accurate. Well done, Mr. Franscell.

Wrongfully Accused (token)
One day in Mississippi, 17 y/o Larry Henderson is arrested and wrongfully accused of murder of a white man. Mississippi was known to be one of the states that believed in racial inequality and a black man being accused of anything could get him convicted or hung. White men were being murdered one after another, but when one well known white klansman is murdered all evidence suddenly turns to ...

There's A Thin Line Between Guilt and Innocence
I am a little backwards with David Hosp's novels. I read his last novel 'Among Thieves' and found it so wonderful, I am now reading the rest of his books. 'Innocence' and 'Among Thieves' can be read on their own, and the story line is not lost, but it is wonderful to have a few insights from each. David Hosp has invented the kind of character in Scott Finn that we all want for our lawyer. He ...

This should be required reading at all schools
Mary Reynolds Powell has written a wonderful book titled A World of Hurt: Between Innocence and Arrogance in Vietnam. Some of what she has shared in this book is her own feelings while other parts are those from some of the people she came to know while stationed at the 24th Evacuation Hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam. Mary interviewed seven other individuals for A World of Hurt besides including ...

Love, Loneliness and the Strictures of Society.
Imagine living in a world where life is governed by intricate rituals; a world "balanced so precariously that its harmony [can] be shattered by a whisper" (Wharton); a world ruled by self-declared experts on form, propriety and family history - read: scandal -; where everything is labeled and yet, people are not; where in order not to disturb society's smooth surface nothing is ever expressed or ...

A First Time Gem
A book that is difficult to put down. I became rivited in this story as the adventure unfolded. John Wemlinger touched all the raw emotional nerves in me as I became more and more involved with the characters and what some of them had to endure. I think when an author can induce those emotions in the reader, he difinitely has what it takes to be a great writer. I think Mr. Wemlinger may have ...

Scary good!
I read this book shortly after it was originally published. I loved it. I'm commenting now because I just purchased the third in the series and I'm hesitating to read it. Why? Because I know when I pick it up I may forget to put it down and do other things like eating and going to work! That is how much I am enjoying this series! Keep it up Suzanne!

Guardian of Innocence is a Winner
Good thing iUniverse.com is bringing back deserving out-of-print books. Guardian of Innocence, a jewel of many facets, is one of these. It's a murder mystery. A priceless Celtic religious amulet is stolen, the thief is murdered, and the only witness - a child - is unable to shed light on the situation. And the amulet has vanished. It's a romance. Marla Creighton, the child's companion, must ...

Thoroughly Enjoyable!
Intricately woven tale, beautifully written. Ms. Souther's use of the language transports the reader with graphic description of mythical locales. Once started, it was hard to put down. A refreshing view of the constant need for balance in the world. Looking forward Volume 2.

Warm and wonderful characters
This book is just the first of the Lizzie series. It is a wonderful book and is even good for teens. I got the privelege of meeting the author, Robert Whittle while on vacation in his home town of Victoria. He is absolutely endearing and is a wonderful writer. I can't wait to read all of the rest of his books. Lizzie is such a warm and exciting character and this story just makes you feel ...

Fabulous read!!! - I could not put it down.
The Betrayal of Innocence - This is extremely rare for me when reading novels. I could not put this book down and totally forgot about dinnertime. The author created the perfect mixture of mystery and suspense. It is a moving story of one woman's journey of self-discovery from victim to wholeness. I gained a great deal of insight about the psychological aspects of being abused by priests. A ...

Awesome!
Even though we had a son involved in drugs the story is essentially the same. It was a great book to read it was honest & open about not just what the teen is going through, but the parents as well. It should be a required reading for high schoolers -- it would help open their eyes to the dangers of drugs because they all think it can't happen to them, but it can & it does. An excellent book for ...
