A perfect book for linux network programming
If you are a linux lover and want to dig into client/server (socket) programming , this book is a good choice. Compared with Steven's Unix Network Programming, this book is more simply and clearly written. Not like Steven who is an expert in explaining details, Comer is good at giving a sound explanation of the network programming principle both in theory and in practice. You will ...

Comprehensive MIPv6 book that blends theory and practices together
This is a comprehensive book on MIPv6 that blends the theory and practices together with the principles of operations, illustrations, case studies and sample exercises that help the readers to review the chapter. An ideal book for both student and Engineer

Its organisation is excellent and the index finds references to the most useful sections quickly and accurately. The student will quickly gain insight into the protocols and operation at an advanced level, and the design engineer will gain the oversight to design excellent products. The references in each ...

Ethernet, I2C, and RS-232 from the ground up
If you've been following Fred Eady's long-running series of articles in Circuit Cellar, you know that this is a good book. The book's focus is showing how to implement various interfaces that enable microcontrollers to communicate with remote computers or devices. The examples use Atmel AVR and Microchip PICmicro microcontrollers. Fred starts with RS-232, followed by about the most detailed ...

Beginners look no further!
I knew nothing about TCP/IP. As a result, I bought a book "learn TCP/IP in 24 hours" and trashed it after I bought this book, no more 24 hour books. I had no idea what routing is and were to start looking for documents on the internet. This book is scientific and puts it all together. Each chapter lists the RFC that he relied on so you know were the stuff came from. The book is not boring; the ...

Excellent Content, Confusing Title
First of all I want to point out that this is the best guide for the current CCNP (2008/2009) I have come across so far. It is far superior to the 4 Volume "official" Cisco Press CCNP guides in terms of relevance, clarity, and general readability. Highlights: Chapter 3, Spanning Tree Protocol - Don't get me wrong. Spanning tree is still the most boring topic in layer 2 switching, but ...

Welcome to Layer 2 and Layer 3 - need search no longer
"Interconnections 2nd Edition - Bridges, Routers Switches and Internetworking Protocols" by Radia Perlman is simply a magnificent book. This book is a one-stop introduction to both Layer 2 and Layer 3 of the OSI model. This book will not teach you how to configure equipment - but what this book will teach you is how different protocols interact with each other. Most books only focus on either ...

The actual code explained. I loved it.
This volume presents a "C" code implementation of TCP/IP, along with detailed explanations of what the code accomplishes. I was able to get a working knowledge of how the protocol operates by reading the actual code and the accompanying explanations. As a systems engineer seeking a working knowledge of how TCP/IP operates, this book was exactly appropriate for me. I would highly recommend ...

Proof is in the Pudding
I passed the exam with flying colors (score 966) on the first try with this kit as my only resource. That says it all. Yes, some of the topics could be covered in more depth. Don't just read the book and expect to be an expert. You have to get hands-on experience with the product (which is enclosed with the kit). Use the book as a starting point, then explore menu options and test different ...

Quite good, but a few typos here and there
This book would turn out to be a great book without the TYPOS... It has extensive coverage on ATM, Frame Relay and other telecommunication-only terms... Many "NEW" Terms and Acronyms are included for example 3G Mobile stuff... which isnt much of a surprise since it was first published in January 2001... My advice? wait for the Second Edition.

OK book, but not a sole source...
I found the book to contain too many errors, and the writing style was not user friendly (The book did not flow well). This book tries to cover many topics; some topics are covered very well, others fall far short. I do not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for solid reference guide. There are too many actual good books available out there.

Great SNA Book
The Introduction to SNA Networking and the Advanced SNA Networking(Professional's Guide to VTAM/NCP) by Jay Ranade and George Sackett is excellent. This book takes a more high level view of SNA while still giving you important details. SNA is not a protocol that you can digest in one sitting or by just reading about it. If you have no experience in mainframes, take the reading slowly and try ...

Having read the Doyle's book, "Routing TCP/IP", at least three times over, I was pleasantly surprised to find new insightful concepts and perspectives on the various IP routing protocols in Rudenko's work. Rudenko displays a mastery over the subject matter and offers unique scenarios and examples to illustrate the main points. This 'black book' is more comprehensive than most cisco press books on ...
