Essential for independent travelers
Everybody is always asking "is there a ferry to...?" And the answer is usually the same: if you can't stand on the dock itself and inquire, do the next best thing and read this unique, comprehensive book. The book gives the schedule for every island and for the various mainland locations. You also get an overview of the various route patterns. This is especially valuable given the somewhat ...

The best Island hopping guide available
My experience of this guide book is the exact opposite of the previous reviewer. I have travelled to more than 30 islands and found the guide to be accurate and extremely useful. If you know what kind of vacation you want (quiet beaches versus lots of nightlife, for example) the pages which rate the islands are worth the price of the book. The page which shows how the various ferry lines ...

Indispensable
You don't need it if you're going on a cruise (it's rather snooty about cruises, with that backpacker reverse snobbery)or if you're going to fly to one island and stay there. In fact the details about the boats and timetables may be too much. If you're moving from island to island independently you have to have it. It's the only one that tells you about the boats themselves. Reading this ...

Fermor's a great writer but this isn't his best
I love Patrick Leigh Fermor. His book "A Time of Gifts" about his travels in the 1930's across Europe mostly walking was what got me interested in travel writing in the first place. And "A TIme of Gifts" is still the best travel book I have ever read. This is not his best, though since it is Fermor, it is still very, very good. One of the problems is that Fermor is travelling to check off ...

Definitive guide, but be aware of its limitations
Greek Island Hopping is a must-have volume for travelers to the Greek isles: the maps, island descriptions, ferry information, etc. go above and beyond its competitors. I just got back from 2+ weeks in the islands & Athens and used this as my primary companion guide during that time. Sometimes it can come off a bit as too backpacker or party-seeker oriented, but this impression can be deceptive ...

Itsuko Hasegawa is the most famous woman in Japanese architecture and the most prominent figure in the Shinohara School; her influence on the architecture of Japan cannot be overstated. Her work often plays with the boundaries between the natural and the artificial--one of her most famous buildings, the Yamanashi Museum of Fruit, which is composed of various different but related curvaceous fruitlike forms.
