I Could Not Put the Book Down!
I read "The Girl in the Italian Bakery" last night and I loved it! Ken brings you in on the very first page and keeps your interest for the entire book! His story of growing up in Lawrence is very moving, funny, sad and extremely inspirational! This is a book I would like to see continued through his military life his marriage etc. I love the way Ken writes; it is like you are listening to ...

Harlot's Sauce: A Memoir of Food, Family, Love, Loss, and Greece37 reviews
Patricia Volonakis Davis

Harper Davis Publishing, 2008

Kalo Taxidi! A great life journey!
This is an authentic memoir written in a strong, sustaining voice. I was so impressed with the honesty and articulate self-reflection in relating a life's journey. Brava! What endurance and courage! Patricia tells of many women's stories in these pages, cross-generational and cross-cultural. She encompasses the universal plight of women today as we all walk this same path in our own ...

Your Home A Living Canvas: Create Stunning Faux Finishes & Murals with Paint36 reviews
Curtis L Heuser

North Light Books, 2007

A Glimpse Into An Artist's Soul
Reading Heuser's book was like taking a journey into the artist's soul. The book is an exploration of his restoring a delapidated and cold house into a dwelling rich in comfort and character. The tips given within are simple, straight forward, economical and encourage even the most extreme novice to try and turn their own home into a living canvas that expresses their own individual style. This ...

No Need to Knead : Handmade Italian Breads in 90 Minutes42 reviews
Suzanne Dunaway, 1999

almost too easy
I have just finished eating my first loaf from this book and felt that I needed to clarify some of the existing reviews. I have been baking bread for years and have built quite a collection of bread books in that time (and have made bread using recipes from all of them). This is one that I know I will continue to use. I didn't notice that the author's tone was particularly annoying as has ...

Vivir Para Contarla33 reviews
Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Grijalbo Mondadori Sa, 2002

Una magnífica crónica de los años que modelaron la imaginación de Garcia Marquez
"Living to Tell the Tale," ("Vivir Para Contarla"), is the first book in a planned trilogy that will make up the memoirs of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the renown Colombian writer who initially won public acclaim in the mid-1960s for his novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude." At that time, Garcia Marquez, a journalist and writer, had never sold more than 700 copies of a book. While driving his family ...

The Complete Italian Vegetarian Cookbook: 350 Essential Recipes for Inspired Everyday Eating48 reviews
Jack Bishop

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 1997

Best Italian Veggie Cookbook, Ever....
Being raised 1st generation Italian, I had some problems finding some of the old authentic recipes my family used to cook. Not any longer. This book brought me home. I love, love, love it and every time I have a dinner party, this is the book I turn to for a special meal that my guests rave about for weeks. This is by far, my favorite cookbook. I am a vegan, but have no problems replacing ...

The Wise Guy Cookbook: My Favorite Recipes From My Life as a Goodfella to Cooking on the Run30 reviews
Henry Hill, Priscilla Davis

NAL Trade, 2002

Excellent
Im not a gourmet, and im about as far from Italian as you can get. I am however a huge fan of Italian cuisine and have sampled it coast to coast in many parts of the country (no im not talking about Olive Garden..im talking about Italian food..:)) Maybe its the satisfaction of creating ones own meal, or imagining what it would have been like to grow up in Brooklyn while the smell of mom's ...

Splendid Table, The29 reviews
Lynne R. Kasper, Louis B Wallach Inc.

William Morrow Cookbooks, 1992

One of the Best Italian Cookbooks Ever!
Before there was a food show available every minute of the day on TV, passionate American cooks learned how to cook at their local cooking school. For many years, before her popular NPR radio show (also called The Splendid Table) went on the air, Lynne Rosetto Kasper was one of the most beloved teachers on the circuit. I saw her teach many times, and I still use her tips and recipes. (For ...

History: A Novel25 reviews
Elsa Morante

Penguin Books Ltd, 1980

I was moved and saddened, but I just kept reading.
Elsa Morante, the author, lived though WWII in Italy. She has a real understanding of what that was like and she shares this with her readers in quite a profound way. I was moved and saddened. But I just kept reading, and by the end of the book I had developed a deep understanding of the horror of war as it affected the ordinary people. Ida, a widowed schoolteacher in her thirties, is raped ...

Catholic Christianity: A Complete Catechism of Catholic Beliefs Based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church26 reviews
Peter Kreeft

Ignatius Press, 2001

The sub-title says it all!
The sub-title of Peter Kreeft's "Catholic Christianity" really does say it all: this is a thuroughly worthwhile catechism of Catholic beliefs based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Second Edition, as all good adult compendiums & catechetical resources on Catholic teaching should be. The book is very accessible, with a very user friendly format that is fully referenced to the Catechism. ...

The Golden Milestone: The Italian Heritage of Innovation and Contribution to Civilization - 4th Edition25 reviews
Russell R. Esposito

The New York Learning Library, 2007

Long Overdue!
Superbly researched, detailed, and precise. In 22 chapters the author proves his points. He sometimes got overly preachy, but with all the negative stereotyping of Italian-Americans by many in Hollywood and the media I can sympathize. It is one of the most organized books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. From the Roman Republic to the present, Italian contributions to Civilization are ...

Carmine's Family-Style Cookbook: More Than 100 Classic Italian Dishes to Make at Home28 reviews
Michael Ronis

St. Martin's Press, 2008

Great Italian-American Food!!!

Naples at Table : Cooking in Campania32 reviews
Arthur Schwartz

William Morrow Cookbooks, 1998

Pizza goodness...
This is a wonderful book. Arthur's love for the region is apparent. He keeps most of the recipes very simple and I have yet to come across a bad one. His pizza dough recipe is excellent and is a favorite. It's easy to work with and thankfully has no sugar in it. His zucchini scapece is perfect too. For anyone trying to capture the flavors of the region - I highly recommend this book! Yum!

Grabs your attention and hangs on all the way to the end
In The Lost Ravioli Recipes of Hoboken: A Search for Food and Family Laura Schenone tells the beautiful story of how she went in search of her great grandmother's ravioli recipe and instead finds herself on an even bigger journey that takes her into the kitchens of old Nonnas in Italy, as well as into her family's complicated past, and her own questions about life. The Rose Legacy (Diamond of the Rockies #1)30 reviews
Kristen Heitzmann

San Val, 2000

`The Rose Legacy` (by) Kristen Heitzmann
This is the kind of book you'll want to read. Although the introduction starts out slowly, after the first chapter the book picks up and you want to continue reading. Carina leaves Sonoma, California and makes it to Crystal, Colorado only to meet two shady characters and soon learns her new home has been taken over by scoundrels. Having had most all her belongings tipped over the side of the ...
