I couldn't put it down!
One of the few college texts I actually READ. Required for a freshman anthropology class (this is almost 8 years ago now), I was thrilled by every word in this book... Easy to read, interesting, entertaining... I mistakenly loaned it to someone who never gave it back and have regretted it ever since. A must read for anyone interested in a look at college culture through the eyes of someone ...

Spooky New Jersey
Spooky New Jersey captures your interest from the first story to the last. No New Jersey folklore book is complete without a New Jersey Devil story. The author of this book has adventures of the Jersey Devil in a 1909 setting. The Devil's activities are presented in an interesting and straight forward manner. Another story that captured my interest is named Brotherly Love. The setting is in ...

for the cynic and the pessimist
For all those people who didn't like this book because of the so-called "whining" and complaining - this book isn't really for them. I suggest they go to the self-help section of the bookstore and grab something there . . . or perhaps join the Oprah Book Club. For the people who've enjoyed Paul Shirley's blog over the years, you'd expect this book to be full of negative comments and complaints ...

Best memoir I've ever read, couldn't put it down!
This was for sure one of the best memoirs I've read, and the best addiction books out there. It stays with you after. I've read A LOT of addiction books to try to understand a friend I had that was an addict. I can't believe how the author got out alive and how honest he is! The things he encounters are not pretty and shamfeful and embarrassing, yet he eloquently describes his experiences ...

Still the best
New format looks good for this old favorite. The 10th edition, published by Rutgers Univ. Press, may be a little milder in its view of NJ outings than previous editions, but the book still has a "voice". There are many new entries, quite a few of the short, factual variety so newcomers to the state should find plenty to do. Earlier editions had better cross-references and indexes, but this one has ...

Top-notch guide
I love the way this book is organized. Rather than describe a series of hiking opportunities in New Jersey, the authors carefully culled through hundreds of trails and picked out the most exciting hikes in the state. They even patched together multiple trails in within most parks so you would get the best bang out of the time invested. The descriptions are accurate and fun to read. I tried ...

Dover saves vital crafts again
Once more Dover Publishing steps in to insure that good books whose copyright have expired don't simply go out of print forever. Thompson's book on knitting patterns for Guernseys, Jerseys, & Arans is the result of hundreds of hours of research around the coasts of the British Isles, where each seaport had its own traditional sweater pattern. While this was useful in recognizing drowned ...

Best little bird book
This book single handedly got me started bird watching, first learning about the birds at my feeders. Then at the beach, the park, even local shopping center parking lots. Great for everyone from beginners to experts. Plus I think Mr. Tekiela has put a book out on each state, I also bought his Birds of Wisconsin book because I have family there and frequently visit.

Comprehensive and helpful
The authors of this book must be paddlers because they have included information paddlers really need, (access points, boat traffic, changing conditions, etc...). This resource guide makes trips to these lakes easier for paddlers ,like me, ...

Fantastic review guide for third grade State Testing.
This is a fantastic review guide for anyone who has a child in the third grade. We all know that Barron's Educational is the top seller of review guides and it is obvious why. The content and quality of the book are first rate (aside from a few spelling and description errors we encountered; which truth-be-told, can be expected in a first edition book). The book is aligned with the NJ Core ...

Absolutely indispensable for birding in New Jersey
Despite its small size and large population, New Jersey is one of the prime locations in North America for spotting birds. First, it holds a strategic position along the Atlantic flyway, which insures that a wide variety of migrating species pass through in both the spring and fall. Second, it has a wide variety of habitats within rather short distances of each other: seacoast, salt marshes, ...
