The Jester287 reviews
James Patterson, Andrew Gross

Grand Central Publishing, 2004

Outside of the box
This was a great departure from the Alex Cross novels that I have come to know and love. After reading Cradle and All and being a little shocked by how James Patterson is not only locked into mystery novels, I was again, a little apprehensive to start a book like Jester. However, it only took reading the first couple of chapters to get me hooked. This book was great. The detail and insight ...

The Jester Has Lost His Jingle28 reviews
David Saltzman

Jester Books, 1995

Child-tested gem!
Ms. Keifer who reviewed it speaks only from an adult-centered bias. This book is loved by kids all over. I have field tested it many times over. Also, when my daughters were younger (3, 6, & 9), they often demanded repeated readings of The Jester has Lost his Jingle. As a result, my children were able to recite it with pleasure from cover to cover. The message to look within yourself for good ...

Dark Jester
Wilson Harris

Faber & Faber, 2001

The Dark Jester recounts Pizarro's conquest of Peru in a fictional meditation on the encounter between Spanish colonialism and Inca civilisation, and the spiritual and cultural consequences of this meeting. Harris imagines a dialogue between the conquistador and Atahualpa, ruler of the Incas, being held to ransom until a room is filled with golden artefacts. Implicit in this is the author's ambition to reclaim as a source of inspiration, not ...

The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester: A Fresh Perspective on Organizational Leadership, Culture and ...30 reviews
David T. Riveness

Jardin Publishing, 2006

Excellent User-Friendly Book on Leading Change
Dave Riveness did a great job with 'The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester'. I read it cover-to-cover on a flight and couldn't put it down. The combination of Greek mythology and lessons for organizational change was a very interesting idea, and Dave's writing was crisp, clear and accessible. All in all, this is a great read on how to transform an organizational culture from the inside-out.

Taash and the Jesters7 reviews
Ellen Kindt McKenzie

Henry Holth & Co (J), 1992

A Page Turner all the way to the end!
This book follows Taash, an orphan who is taken away from his abusive foster parent and given to a "witch and her friend." As the book goes on, he meets Kashka and Piff, two twin cousin jesters who don't see each other that much. THen, he sees some witches trying to curse a small baby. He instinctively grabs the baby away and saves the baby's life. As it turns out, the baby is a prince. Taash and ...

Chicot, The Jester.7 reviews
Alexandre Dumas

Potter Press, 2008

sad
I read this book after I saw movie La Dam de Monsoreau when I visited France with my parents, I was 12. I think the actual book is much better than a movie, Dumas made a good statement in this book by drawing the line between something dirty, which is politics and something that could be so clean, beautiful and yet tragic, which is love. Whenever we love something in this life, we afraid it will ...

Kings, Queens, Knights, and Jesters: Making Medieval Costumes1 review
Lynn Edelman Schnurnberger

HarperCollins Publishers, 1978

The BEST quick medieval costume book!
What a great book this is! These are out of print now, and are absolutely terrific for anybody or any group wanting to outfit people in medieval clothes for a pageant or program (or just for fun). Directions on costume-making are complete, each step is explained, and they're EASY to do. VERY highly recommended.

Jester's Fortune (Alan Lewrie Naval Adventures)3 reviews
Dewey Lambdin

McBooks Press, 2002

a maturing of the author?
Disagreeing wholeheartedly with the reviews preceding this one, I find a more "thinking" Lewrie who has risen above his Ram-Catting somewhat. I think Lambdin has pursued excellence with diligence and obvious research to describe naval action in a little known corner of the world. If I remember my early history studies these were known as the Balkan States and we knew little or nothing about them ...

Wedding Jester5 reviews
Steve Stern

Graywolf Press, 1999

A Joy and A Sorrow
I greatly enjoyed this collection of stories. They were quirky and delicious. This was the stuff that my lower east side grandmother believed in. Saints, sinners and we, the observers cheering them on. The "Old Time Religion" with a twist, beautifully expressed in a multicolor canvass. It did evoke Chagall's work.

Intellectuals and the American Presidency: Philosophers, Jesters, or Technicians?6 reviews
Tevi Troy

Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc., 2003

An excellent journey down the corridors of power...
This is a fascinating book that tells an eight-part saga about American intellectuals and their struggle for influence in the most powerful institution in the world. Starting with Arthur Schelsinger Jr., Troy gives the reader an intimate look at the vanity and egos of scholars, academics, and pointy-heads who want to stroke and be stroked. Troy writes with engaging verve, taking what could have ...

The Court Jesters1 review
Avigdor Dagan, Barbara Harshav

Warner Books, 1991

A beautiful Holocoust story which goes beyond the others.
The most powerful aspect of the tale is the viewpoint in which the characters share the inevitable guilt of the reader for watching the suffering without really experiencing it. The jesters are in the concentration camp for being gypsy, dwarfed and hunch-backed, but they are spared to entertain the General's guests. Through their experiences they learn that one can survive most anything for the ...

Jousting With Jesters: An ABC for the Younger Dragon2 reviews
Martin Springett

Orca Book Publishers, 2006

Courtesy of Kids @ Teens Read Too
What a wonderful book! My kids absolutely loved it, and I have to say I'm quite partial to it myself. This is the A-Z story of Dennis the Dragon, and his quest to find his flame and return to Castle Yarrow as a full-grown, fire-breathing dragon. From "Avoid aunties armed with arrows" to "As Auntie always says, 'Zoom with Zest!'," this is an alphabet-filled picture book with amazing ...

Fools and Jesters at the English Court2 reviews
John Southworth

Sutton Publishing Ltd, 2003

Cafe Eighties Magazine -- Publisher's Pick April 1999
The morning after I finished reading Fools and Jesters of the English Court by John Southworth, I eagerly abandoned my bed and headed over to the Medieval Galleries at the Metropolitan Musuem of Art. I was anxious to test my newfound knowledge and see how many authentic English fools I could identify in the tapestries and stained glass. I knew the best clues would not be as obvious as the ...

Fools Are Everywhere: The Court Jester around the World3 reviews
Beatrice K. Otto

University Of Chicago Press, 2007

Foolish Fun and Foolish Seriousness
I can't think of a book that has a better choice of title than _Fools Are Everywhere_ (University of Chicago Press) by Beatrice K. Otto. Everyone would agree with those three little words, but Otto has the specialist meaning revealed in her subtitle: _The Court Jester Around the World_. Her title amply is demonstrated in a large and wide-ranging history of fools. Everyone knows of the fools in ...
