Must-Read for Teenagers--and Their Parents
This book is a wonderfully written exploration of the inner--and outer--lives of people who want to be famous, which (it seems) is almost everyone. It's a page-turner for the generally curious but essential reading for parents of today's teens--nearly one-third of whom evidently believe that they personally will be famous someday! This book is the best couple of hours any teen's parent could ...

a different Burroughs
Junky could be the most effective anti-drug book ever written. This is not the William S. Burroughs of The Wild Boys: A Book of the Dead (Burroughs, William S.) and certainly not the same guy who wrote Naked Lunch: The Restored Text. This is a Burroughs who's not talking to himself or talking to his admirers. Instead this an author who is stretching to reach the reader with the actual smelly, ...

Great Book!
This is a great book for all hip hop junkies. There is a lot of information on how groups were formed, and stories behind all. I got this book, because I'm big on hip hop. I wanted to do some reading on the history of all the great hip hop legends that you don't hear much of nowadays. I really recommend this book for anyone who's into the old school underground hip hop. You'll love it!

The Quotable Atheist
Ammunition for Nonbelievers is a great discription for this collection of short quotes and quips. If you've ever been tired of or have gotten a bit "out of sorts" with bible thumpers, door knockers, phone ringers, and pseuedo soul savers, who have that "in your face" attitude, here's your book of "comebacks". Be forewarned that you are sure to be labeled as a hell-bound sacrilege by any religious ...

Balanced and Thought Provoking
If one were to believe the negative reviews below, one could get the impression that Dr. Bratman recommends living on burgers and fries alone. Nothing could be further from the truth. Although this book is clearly written for a popular audience and is dominated by ancedotes, some of which may be a bit overly cute, the author does a very good job differentiating between the pursuit of a healthy ...

What to do right to make your projects work, even if it may appear to be wrong
I have been a fan of Tom DeMarco and Tim Lister for some time, their insights into the right way to manage information technology (IT) projects could be entitled, "The Way It Should Be Done." In this book, they are joined by their colleagues in the Atlantic Systems Guild to describe 86 project patterns, some of which you would enjoy being used to describe how you do things and others that you ...

Informative and entertaining
An interesting look into the beauty industry. Creative, funny, and informative. I only gave it a 4 because of how it left me feeling. I've never really considered plastic surgery, but there were times in the book that I actually thought "wow, maybe I should get that done". There were also times when I was so glad I never have and made me relish being actually looking like an individual rather ...

For people who are [...] about their music
If you read and/or watched High Fidelity and thought, "That's me!", then this book is for you. Keep a pad of paper with you as you read, because you'll learn about some interesting collectibles you never knew existed. The segments where rock stars talk about their personal history/obsession with record collecting are particularly fun. Milano has an easy-going style that makes it feel like you're ...

How Not To Be A Health Food Junkie!
***** Health Food Junkies: Orthorexia Nervosa: Overcoming the Obsession with Healthful Eating is a thorough exploration of a common but normally undiscussed problem in the health food community---a healthy focus which progresses into a fixation or obsession with "correct" or "right" eating. I like to think of it as the energy with which we focus on healthy eating. For example, you can have a ...

a thorough, well-written and important book with the potential to change the way we think about cosmetic surgery
Every woman who opts to have cosmetic surgery is likely to incite a variety of knee-jerk reactions regarding her choice and what it says about her. Take, for example, Ashlee Simpson's decision to undergo rhinoplasty, which transformed her nose (and, in turn, her entire appearance) to be more in line with mainstream standards of beauty. Opinions about Ashlee's surgery depicted her simultaneously ...

Distributed by the University of Nebraska Press for Whale and Star Press For the Cowboy Junkies it all begins with a song: an acoustic guitar and a voice. Some pop out as perfect little gems; others mutate and transform themselves, stealing and pillaging from the ...
