Mosby's Manual of Diagnostic and Laboratory Tests24 reviews
Kathleen Deska Pagana, Timothy J. Pagana

Mosby, 2005

Perfect for Med School
I purchased this book after looking at a friend's copy. Its great for figuring out what test results actually mean (especially for CBCs and BMPs). It breaks down every test, what its used for, when to order it - and what it means when high or low. Great reference for anyone in the medical field. ps -I saw 3 copies of this book in the ICU the other day...

The Nursing Mother's Companion: Revised Edition79 reviews
Kathleen Huggins

Harvard Common Press, 2005

Read it BEFORE you go to the hospital
Lots of great info I could have used in the beginning. Still good to have now, I thought it was more a reference book when I bought it and didn't read it until later. I could have really used a lot of the information going in and in that first week. It's easy to read, and offers a lot of tips on childcare aside from just breastfeeding.

Biology53 reviews
Neil A. Campbell, Jane B. Reece

Benjamin Cummings, 2004

Great Book
This book is way more informative than my professor. Also, since introductory biology doesn't change within a couple of years, I'm really glad I saved money and purchased the seventh edition rather than the eighth.

Beowulf: A New Verse Translation (Bilingual Edition)238 reviews

W. W. Norton & Company, 2001

Wow
This was incredible. Why wasn't I assigned to read this in high school? I want to read more like this. This is up there with Homer. This new translation is a very easy-to-read one, I sat down and pretty much read this straight through. I really enjoyed looking back and forth at the old English vs. the contemporary. This was really really great.

Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry14 reviews
David L. Nelson, Michael M. Cox

W. H. Freeman, 2008

Excellent! Can't wait for the Next Edition!
If you are a undergraduate or a graduate student who needs to learn some biochemistry from the ground up (without an instructor), this is the text for you. Lehninger really outdoes himself by creating a Biochemistry textbook that's not only colorful and pretty to look at but also wonderfully written. Of all of the science textbooks I've had to read to date, this was the best! Lehninger really ...

The Developing Person Through the Life Span23 reviews
Kathleen Stassen Berger

Worth Publishers, 2007

LifeSpan Textbook
The book was great. It gave me what I needed to pass the exam through Excelsior College. However, the study guide that went along with it was a waste of time. The book is all anyone needs to pass the test.

Biology: Concepts & Connections with Student CD-ROM23 reviews
Neil A. Campbell, Jane B. Reece, ...

Benjamin Cummings, 2005

Good introductory biology text
This is a great text for anyone taking an introductory college-level biology course. The writing style is simple and easy to understand, unlike many other science textbooks. Despite being very easy to read, it contains a good amount of information.

Anne Byrn

Workman Publishing Company, 1999

CAKE DOCTOR
I SAW A COPY OF CAKE DOCTOR THAT A FRIEND HAD. IT LOOKED GREAT. NONE OF THE STORES AROUND ME HAD THE BOOK. SO I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND IT ON AMAZON.COM. SINCE JULY 1 I HAVE MADE TWO OF THE RECIPES EACH TWICE. EVERYONE RAVES ABOUT THE CAKES. THEY ARE WONDERFUL. MY HUSBAND SAYS ONE OF THE CAKES IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER MADE. WE'VE BEEN MARRIED 27 YEARS AND I HAVE MADE MANY MANY CAKES. IT IS A ...

Krause's Food & Nutrition Therapy5 reviews
L. Kathleen Mahan, Sylvia Escott-Stump

Saunders, 2007

Excellent!
Krause's Food, Nutrition and Diet Therapy (eds; Mahan and Escott-Stump)10th ed is 1000% user friendly! Each chapter starts off with a glossary of terms in the ensuing pages which levels the learning field. Colorful charts on practical information are generously sprinkled in every chapter with clear illustrations on anatomy, energy reactions, and algorithms. Julie Markes, Susan Kathleen Hartung

ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life79 reviews
Judith Kolberg, Kathleen Nadeau

Routledge, 2002

The top organization book for ADD
I bought over 10 books on ADD and organizing, and only kept two: this one and 10 Simple Solutions to Adult ADD. This book's format and prose was written with ADD readers in mind, and the solutions are spot-on. Other books had overly simplistic or complicated ideas that seemed absurd or impossible. This book's ideas are very specific to the way an ADDer's brain works. I refer to it time and ...

My Life on the Run: The Wit, Wisdom, and Insights of a Road Racing Icon15 reviews
Bart Yasso, Kathleen Parrish

Rodale Books, 2008

Laugh Out Loud!
Bart's book is absolutely hilarious and inspiring. His stories are witty and humorous. I was laughing out loud at the Taco Bell story, the cross country bike story, and the bare buns run! Great read, I couldn't put it down. Bart is a legend.

Constitutional Law (University Casebook Series)2 reviews
Kathleen M. Sullivan, Gerald Gunther

Foundation Press, 2007

Your standard Con-law Casebook, but not as beefy as some
I used this text in my first amendment class so I only read pp. 740 ish to the end of the text. For the most part this is your standard Constitutional law text, with few principal cases, and pages after pages of note cases to follow. Unlike most law textbooks, Sullivan does a good job of doing what most law book don't do--she gets to the point and doesn't waste much time getting there. The ...

Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them53 reviews
Liz Curtis Higgs

WaterBrook Press, 1999

Bad Girls From the Bible and What We Can Learn From Them
This book tells a real world story similar to the story of each of the "Bad Girls" of the Bible, then tells the actual biblical story for each. This is followed by though-provoking questions for modern-day women to think about how we can apply this to our lives. For women who wish to stay in a walk with God, and sometimes feel weak in today's world, this book shows that we are not abnormal, ...

Save the Males: Why Men Matter Why Women Should Care25 reviews
Kathleen Parker

Random House, 2008

Humorous, Poignant Book
This was a very well-written, reasoned book about why men are important. Most importantly, without men, there are no women, and vice versa. Being opposite and different is what makes us important and worthwhile. This book helps lay out the case that our pornographic and male-phobic society has helped encourage men to believe that they are not useful in our society. The policies of our government ...

Ansel's Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms and Drug Delivery Systems1 review
Loyd V Allen, Nicholas G Popovich, ...

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2004

Excellent book on basic pharmaceutical knowledge
I really found this book to be helpful for my pharmaceutics class. It provides detailed information on how pharmaceuticals are made. I plan to use it when I study for the Pharmacy Board exam upon graduation. The key thing to remember is that it contains BASIC knowledge about how drugs are manufactured. Warning: The professor and the student must be careful to supplement this book with ...

The Jungle: The Uncensored Original Edition56 reviews
Upton Sinclair

See Sharp Press, 2003

The reason I pay my union dues
Living in a right-to-work state, you forget why we have unions. As a teenager, I read this book for school and fell in love with it. My parents and family were all union backers (teachers, firefighters, etc.), but I did not understand why we had unions. Then I read this book and ever since I have paid my union dues. Sinclair is an outstanding writer and I think everyone should read this book to ...
