A must have, for any D.O.P
This wonderful book, covering all the major areas in lighting, in enough detail to give a solid grounding. w While it may appear a little too technical for the absolute beginner, it does offer a solid base in knowledge for those with a little experiance wanting to expand their knowledge, and take away plenty of ideas with which they can put to trial on future set's. If your looking to ...

Clear and Thoughtful
When I bought this book, I was a 3D modeling newbie. I still am, but I am now a much better informed newbie. Information about lighting and rendering is accessible and thorough. Technical where it needs to be but also full of real world examples and illustrative images. The author does a wonderful job of explaining alternatives available in current modeling, animation, and rendering ...

A completely professional approach
The thing about this book is that it is written from a completely professional point of view. It deals with lighting as it is really practiced on professional movie sets - not like most books on cinematography which seem to be written by people who haven't actually done it all that much in the real world. I've bought about every book there is on movie lighting and most of them are a waste of ...

putting the 'lights' in "lights; camera; action"
This content of this book is consistent with the "DV Expert series" range, which I would say are aimed at the novice who has discovered that 'automatic' settings don't really work in most situations and want to understand why and how to start taking their abilities up to the intermediate level. There are many books on lighting out there, be it for still photography, stage lighting, etc and ...

Great book for someone wanting to make the jump from novice to advance
I am a professional photographer and bought this book thinking it was more technical. In my opinion this book is geared to the amateur enthusiast who wants to take their photography to the next level. The main difference between and average photo and a photo that just pops is lighting. So many photographers make the mistake in thinking they need the latest and greatest dSLR or a new lens or ...

Intriguing and Practical
As the title suggests, the scope of this book is how to produce images without the burdensome lighting equipment and without sacrificing quality. The concept in itself drew me into this book as I found it hard to put down. Kirk Tuck always kept my interest as the ability and advantage of creating more with less is revealed. Advancements in camera technology and the clever use of flashes are ...

Outstanding.
Loads of information / explanations. A little bit of physics but only that necessary. Details how light works, how to photograph glass and metal, and much more. One of my favourite photography books, and so far the ONLY book (I've purchased around 20 photography related books from Amazon) I've been motivated to review on Amazon!

Very good introduction to fashion photography
This is a very good book that accompishes it's specific topic, and does deliver simple "cookbook" recipes for portraits. I got my money's worth, as I can "read between the lines" on many of the photos and the diagrams, however there are other authors more articulate in describing what that do, and more helpful in terms of having more thorough diagrams. This is a relative critism, as a novice ...

I haven't really read all the chapters yet but this book is very professional in terms of the processes they use to enhance images.
