One of Baseball's Greatest
Lou Gehrig, a young boy growing up in the Great Depression, is faced with problems with life and baseball. While Lou is growing up he is faced with many challenges and it intrigues readers on how he deals with them. For instance, while Lou's dad gets laid of three jobs, Lou has to go about getting a job at a very young age. This book keeps me hooked by adding facts about the Great Depression ...

Essential source for historians (in German)
This reprint of "Der Kampf um die Macht" came as a complete surprise to me. The book is a faithful facsimile of the 800-page original containing the most important articles by the main ideologue of the Nazi party from the decade prior to Hitler's rise to power. Actually, this is part two of a rare four-part series by Rosenberg; I don't know if AMS Press has released any of the others. No ...

i was given Backen Macht Freude for my 15th birthday, about 60 years ago, to encourage me to read German; I learned to bake from it. i still use it though the book is falling apart. the recipes are simple, clear, (if you can read German)delicious, and usually require less sugar than american recipes I recommend it highly.

A must read for anyone interested in baseball history
After researching Connie Mack for more than 20 years, author Norman Macht definitely knows his subject. Macht masterfully weaves the story of Mack and the early years of baseball in this 675-page biography, which covers the time from Mack's birth in 1862 through 1914. Mack is the ideal subject to use to tell about baseball's early years because he was involved, in one way or another, in ...

The data store of mass murder
This is a very dark book on a gruesome topic. Why would anyone read such a book? The reason the book should be read is because it describes a very important part of human history that has largely been ignored, and yet it can be analyzed. Governments mass murdered four times more people in the 20th century through genocide, politicide and massmurder than through war. We need to understand how this ...
