The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics: A Philosophy for Achieving a Radiant Mind and a Fabulous Body34 reviews
Jessica Porter

Avery, 2004

Informative, Fun, Great Recipes
I had been reading about Macrobiotics for a while online before buying this book. It was an easy read and it helped me go "whole hog". I have only been macrobiotic for a short time and have seen amazing transformations not only in myself but in my husband as well. I never thought he would have stuck with this diet since he enjoyed meat and dairy so much. I was vegan before so I knew it wouldn't ...

Macrobiotic Diet1 review
Michio Kushi, Aveline Kushi

Japan Publications, 1993

Larger than Life
Macrobiotics first had its roots in America when Michio and his wife, Avelin came to this country in the 1950's with a vision that was "larger than life". Macro-bio-tics is exactly that. And the Macrobiotic Diet, as described in this book (among the many that exist today) is one that doesn't just center around the do's and don'ts of proper eating. It is a lifestyle; it is a way to think ...

Michio Kushi, Alex Jack

This is a truly comprehensive guide to the macrobiotic way of eating. One friend refers to it as 'the bible'. The entire back half is devoted to helping certain health disorders.

Changing Seasons Macrobiotic Cookbook7 reviews
Aveline Kushi, Wendy Esko

Avery, 2003

Fantastic
As a newcomer to macrobiotics, I absolutely loved this book and have used it every day since I bought it. It outlines easy, quick basic recipes that anyone can make - most of which involve few basic ingredients. Everything down to how to make basic brown rice is in here. I am so blessed I happened to get this book in the beginning. After now having read some of the other macrobiotic books, ...

Modern-Day Macrobiotics: Transform Your Diet and Feed Your Mind, Body and Spirit10 reviews
Simon Brown

North Atlantic Books, 2007

great book
This book is a fabulous book , i highly recommend it. First off, it is beautifully laid out with the pictures and design. The book explains macrobiotics-- theory and diet, very well. Also, the recipes in the back section were great. I have made a few already. One of the best sections discusses how to be more efficient in macrobiotic cooking and meal preparation. When i first started with ...

The Macrobiotic Community Cookbook5 reviews
Andrea Bliss Lerman

Avery, 2003

A Wonderful "Community" Cookbook!
I really love this cookbook. Andrea Bliss Lerman has compiled a nice variety of recipes, many of which are contributed from famous names in the Macrobiotic Family. I especially enjoyed the recipe for Chapati contributed by Cornellia Aihara from the George Ohsawa Macrobiotic Foundation. It is a flat bread made from finely ground whole wheat flour, water and sea salt that she discovered from ...

The Quick and Natural Macrobiotic Cookbook3 reviews
Aveline Kushi, Wendy Esko

McGraw-Hill, 1989

Great Cook Book
While some of the meals take more than an hour there are some that take as little as 20 min. I like the varity of the recipes and helpful hints and instructions with pictures. I would highly recommend this book.

Aveline Kushi's Complete Guide to Macrobiotic Cooking: For Health, Harmony, and Peace12 reviews
Aveline Kushi, Alex Jack

Warner Books, 1988

Excellent macrobiotic cookbook
I own multiple macrobiotic cookbooks, and this one is the one I come to time and time again. Learning about the specialty ingredients in macrobiotic cooking is tricky, but once you have found a source of these ingredients, the recipes in this book are simple and tasty. The thing I like most about this book is the simplicity of the recipes. Most of the recipes call for the same 4-5 cooking ...

The Macrobiotic Way7 reviews
Michio Kushi, Stephen Blauer, ...

Avery, 2004

The Macrobiotic Way
Excellent comprehensive book on macrobiotics. This book explains macrobiotics as a way of life from how we eat to how we conduct ourselves. This book is recommended to anyone who wants to live a more balanced life with less stress, healthier eating, and more caring for others and the planet. Other excellent macrobiotic books include the Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics and The Cancer ...

American Macrobiotic Cuisine: A Macrobiotic Celebration of American Ethnic Cooking3 reviews
Meredith McCarty

Avery, 1995

Great information and recipes
This book is a great introduction to the various foods that are eaten according to Macrobiotic principles, in plain English. Each of the basic foods is described, along with handling and preparation information. I am looking forward to trying some of the desserts! I was worried that this style of eating would be very limiting and dull but this book dispels that idea with the variety of meals it ...

Macrobiotic Approach to Cancer3 reviews
Edward Kushi Mochi, Kushi Michio

Avery, 1982

Read it if you have cancer.
Eighteen years ago I began the macrobiotic diet and lifestyle after attending a "Diet and Cancer" seminar and having a consultation with Michio Kushi. It was 9 months after I found a lump in my breast. I also did a lot of work on myself in order to heal but the diet was/is crucial as well. I am glad I eat that way, even now! I had the lumps taken out but no radiation or chemotherapy.

Keith Michell's Practically Macrobiotic Cookbook2 reviews
Keith Michell

Healing Arts Press, 2000

I use this book constantly!
I have been off and on macrobiotic for years but sometimes just want more variety in my eating. This cookbook offers a bit more in the way of spices and jazzing up food than the traditional macro cookbooks I own. I appreciate the fact that he has a small section with a suggested list of seasonal daily menus so that I don't have to constantly come up with a balanced yin-yang meal on my own. The ...

Making the Transition to a Macrobiotic Diet4 reviews
Carolyn Heidenry

Avery, 1987

Excellent guide to gracefully changing to a healthier diet.
I found this an excellent, yet simple guide for gracefully changing eating habits. The book is full of suggestions that help the student to succeed. Changing from the standard American diet to macrobiotics is not something most people can do overnight. This simple, easy to read and understand book provides practical suggestions to help one begin the long process of gradual change, a sure way ...

Pocket Guide to Macrobiotics (The Crossing Press Pocket Series)4 reviews
Carl Ferre

Crossing Press, 1997

Best Expression of the macrobiotic way of eating to date
This small pocket guide outlines food choices in diagrams displaying the relative positions of food rather than in terms of nutritional data. Nutritional quantities and percentages of food are misleading in that the imply accurate descriptions of food before it is eaten and digested. Each body is different and the macrobiotic way of eating requires considering the condition of the eater as well ...

The Macrobiotic Brown Rice Cookbook5 reviews
Craig Sams

Healing Arts Press, 1993

I love their recipes!
This book is great! The miso soup recipe is wonderful, and I'm hooked on the Risi i Bisi!!! It was recommended to me by a friend who modified her diet after being diagnosed with cancer. Being vegetarian, I explored it myself and now it's a staple in my kitchen. Recipes are relatively easy and very tasty.

Zen Macrobiotics for Americans5 reviews
Roger Mason

Safe Goods Publishing, 2002

Somewhat different approach to diet
What makes this book unique from most other healthy diets? Like most of the others, it tells us to avoid meat, fat, sweets. In these general ways it agrees with everything the health experts are always telling us, except of course for Atkins, who is on a planet of his own. The main difference here, for me, is that we are told to really fill up on the whole grains. It is supposed to be the ...
