The Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics, 33rd Edition
Lippincott Williams & Wilkins
Best pocket book for IM
Its a great read and even though not a 'pocket book', its worth shoving it into your coat pocket and carrying it around on the wards for a quick reference/read/review. This is a great back up to UpToDate. Every resident, specially those involved with primary care, in any capacity, should have this book.
Monster Manual 3: A 4th Edition D&D Core Rulebook (Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition)
Wizards of the Coast
The best of the 4e MMs
The edition of flavor/lore text is welcome, and the overall quality of the book is a huge step up from the MM2 in my opinion. Also, the stat blocks have been revamped making it easier to read. Gone are the useless "encounter groups" from the first 2 MMs. Instead, they give suggestions on what (if any) other creatures the beast in question might be found with. Some old favorites make their ...
Mac OS X Snow Leopard: The Missing Manual
Everything you might ever need
Whether you are new to the Mac, or just new to Snow Leopard as I am, this book will answer just about any question you might have. Apple has a way of introducing marvelous new features, like Time Machine, without providing any one place where you can find answers to basic questions, like "What is this feature for, and what will it do for me," "How exactly does it work," and "How does it fit into ...
The Gregg Reference Manual: A Manual of Style, Grammar, Usage, and Formatting Tribute Edition
"My Bible" For All My Writing Needs and Grammatical Error Corrections
When I was in college, The Gregg Reference Manual was referred to by the professors as "The Bible". Just like the title says, it covers all the bases for all your writing needs at least on the business level of Style, Grammar, Usage, and Formatting. The book gets better with each edition adding new things to keep up with the technology of today's world. My favorite section of the book it the ...
The Chicago Manual of Style
University Of Chicago Press
Chicago Manual of Style
The only aspect missing for my doctoral dissertation was the bibliography, which is something very boring and time-consuming. I purchased the Chicago Manual from Amazon.com, and as soon as I received it, started working on said bibliography. In just two days I finished 18 pages of entries using the Manual, because it is very user friendly. I recommend it to all graduate students and researchers ...
CSS: The Missing Manual
David Sawyer McFarland
Excelent Presentation of CSS
I have been dabbling with web design for several years, mainly just playing around with web pages for personal use and learning experience. I bought this book after it was recommended by a coworker, while working on a web page for a friends business. In a weeks spare time I was able to completely redo the website using modern CSS coding and include features in simple CSS that I use to think was ...
Mosby's Manual of Diagnostic and Laboratory Tests
Kathleen Deska Pagana PhD RN
Timothy J. Pagana MD FACS
Interpreting Medical Test Results
Excellent referance for interpreting medical test results for someone with or without a medical background. Provides a brief explanation of each test and lists likely cause('s) of abnormal results. Also lists related tests that may in combination provide a more detailed picture.
The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, 18th Edition
Mark H. Beers
As a nurse for ages, this book never disappoints. Great reference for those with medical background. Too medical for most laypersons.
YOU: The Owner's Manual, Updated and Expanded Edition: An Insider's Guide to the Body that Will Make You ...
Mehmet C. Oz
Michael F. Roizen
Helpful Overview for Every "Owner"
Now that Dr. Oz is accessible to us all on TV each day, I'm particularly glad to have a couple of his books on-hand too. Like any instructional book, while they're well-written and easy to understand--as are his TV shows--my memory isn't quite what it once was. :-) I find this book helpful as an accessible overview for anyone who wants to understand the body's systems, how to live more ...
iPad: The Missing Manual
J. D. Biersdorfer
Fantastic and Timely
Another well written book in the Missing Manual series. I received the book before purchasing my new iPad, it actually helped me decide to actually purchase the iPad.
Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder
Marsha M. Linehan
The Guilford Press
The skills manual is great, provided you receive appropriate training in DBT. DBT is an intensive treatment model. Without proper training, the manual is useless. Buyers should order with accompanying text: Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder (Linehan)
Dreamweaver CS4: The Missing Manual
David Sawyer McFarland
Best software manual I've ever read
I've been using pc's since 1980. I've purchased a lot of software manuals. Nowadays it's ridiculous - you drop $1200 on a piece of software and it includes no manual, no quick help guide, nothing. Adobe oughta be ashamed of itself. It wastes $$ on fancy packaging, but doesn't invest a dime to provide a manual for its software. This business about "looking it up online" in a help system is bogus. ...
ALWD Citation Manual: A Professional System of Citation, Fourth Edition
Association of Legal Writing Directors
I am going to keep it after school
I purchased this book for a class and it has been very helpful. It is a great reference book for court abbreviations and different (proper) ways to cite cases. I really like the spiral binding that lets me keep a page open while I am typing. It has been easy to find exactly what I am looking for as well.
Windows 7: The Missing Manual
Pogue's books are always the best!
This is yet another great book by Pogue. He is a natural at interpreting technical information to make it a pleasure and easy to learn. His style of writing is very conversational, yet very comprehensible. Thanks again for another useful book in my library.
The Organic Chem Lab Survival Manual: A Student's Guide to Techniques
James W. Zubrick
amazing for starters and quick finding
I am working in research 3 years now and i still find this book useful for remembering stuff and quick finding of procedures which i don't practice very often. Highly recommended for every chemist.
iPhone: The Missing Manual: Covers All Models with 3.0 Software-including the iPhone 3GS
This is the manual that should have come with the iPhone.
I was so lost when I got my iPhone. I was used to a small phone that didn't do much. I was overwhelmed and missing the ease of my little phone. I got this book hoping it would help me. This, coupled wth the tutorials on ATT. And Apple websites and all the cool hints has made me quite an expert. I have friends that have had iPhones since they first came out and I am light years ahead of the ...
Pocket Style Manual: Updated With Mla's 1999 Guidelines
I usually resell ALL of my textbooks! I kept this one! It is VERY informative and helpful. It also helps because it shows many different citing refrences, not just one. I ALWAYS keep this in my bag! Exceptionally helpful not only for the class but also for the rest of my college career! =)
iPhoto '09: The Missing Manual
J D Biersdorfer J.D.
David Pogue has done it again.
David Pogue has done it again, this time with the very able assistance of J. D. Biersdorfer. This latest book in the "Missing Manual" series, iPhoto '09 The Missing Manual, published by O'Reilly Media, is an equally valuable resource for those new to the Mac and/or iPhoto as well as for those who have used iPhoto for many years. Part One, iPhoto Basics, covers everything from getting photos ...

The Manual: A True Bad Boy Explains How Men Think, Date, and Mate--and What Women Can Do to Come Out on Top
Three Rivers Press
I got this book in hopes of understanding men better, and it definitely provided some helpful insight. It can't answer your particular situation, but offers some general guidelines of how men think, why they do what they do, and what to look for when you feel completely confused by their actions (or lack thereof). Steve tells it like it is and is unapologetic in his approach - which is why men ...
