A Christmas Favorite That Stands The Test Of Time
HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS!, by the incomparable Theodor Geisel - aka Dr. Seuss, is a true Christmas classic. It is a story of hope, faith, and epiphany, and of discovering the true meaning of Christmas. Who else but Seuss could tell such a story so entertainingly, in so few words, and all in rhyme? That grumpy old Grinch thought Christmas was about presents... and food and decorations ...

The labyrinth that consists of a single straight line
Jorge Luis Borges was one of those rare writers who can take even a bizarre, utterly unbelievable idea, and spin it into an exquisite little gem of prose. And this classic writer was at the peak of his powers when he collected together "Ficciones," whose plain name belies the subtle power and exquisite beauty of Jorges' short stories. Even among Borges' many short stories, few of them can ...

I FIRST READ R-F-W IN 1992, I HAVE SINCE READ THE NOVEL 10 TIMES. AS A CIVIL WAR BUFF I REALLY ENJOYED THE WESTERN FRONTIER BATTLES. IN HISTORY CLASS ONE USUALLY NEVER GETS MUCH INSIGHT ON THOSE AREAS OF THE CIVIL WAR. I LOVE THE PASE OF THIS NOVEL, IT SEEMS AS IF IT NEVER SLOWS DOWN. I REMEMBER AS A KID FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE CHARECTERS AND WANTING TO BE THEM. WHEN I DEPLOYED TO IRAQ IN 03 ...

Great Spanish Book
This is a great book for, well, practicing Spanish Verbs. LOTS of exercises! Lots of verbs. It's probably for the advanced beginner, you need to know some Spanish vocabulary. It's a moderate sized book, so easy enough to carry around for practicing Spanish any place I can sit and write, and verbs continue to challenge me. No audio, of course, but there are other products for that.

I can understand why this book has so many high ratings
If you plan to learn arabic, be sure not to miss this book. If you take a book like "read and speak arabic for beginners" it will throw you right into the written words without any explanation about how they relate to alphabet and thus you can take the whole words as strange sort of hieroglyphics and of course it is a mess. But here is why this book is a treasure, it will give you an undertanding ...

A jewel of a book, worth 5 times its value !
This is the first time in my life - and I am not born yesterday - I have met such a textbook that is so motivating , so clear and so concise in the process of learning a foreign language . At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I am stupefied with the simplicity and the real effectiveness of her method of teaching not only Spanish but also any other Latin based language ( French, ...

My favorite holiday classic
My great aunt ran the library in our little town and if I were to go back and look at the checkout records for this book I probably had it out for 3 solid months every year. My absolute favorite holiday book.... even beats "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Now every new baby of family and friends receives a copy of this book from me on their first christmas and I can not wait to begin the ...

Realistic, Exciting, Engaging
Although I am officially retired, I feel more involved in guiding students because I am teaching homebound students and tutoring. This book verified what I always did when I was in the classroom and gave me some new ideas. It even changed the way I thought about some things. I wish I could purchase this book for every teacher - new and old. It gives you a play-by-play method of setting up a ...

Must Read For October...
My kids love the Halloween story, Room on The Broom. It is their favorite (ages 3 and 7). It is about a friendly witch that has a knack for losing things. Still she always finds what she has lost with a help from a friend. In return for finding what she has lost, the witch always lets the finder hop on for a ride on her broom. From a parents prospective, I love how this book teaches that acts of ...

parenting children with ADD and Learning Disabilities
Dr. Stern's book is a MUST-READ for parents of ADD/LD children. These kids can push you to your limits, create havoc, if not challenging moment, in the home, and can push normally patient parents into anger, frustration and impatience. Under these circumstances it's easy for the parent/child relationship to suffer and ultimately be irreparably broken. Dr. Stern's premise is that a loving, ...

A great Latin-learning resource
I have a Ph.D. in English and am currently homeschooling my 7-yr-old son. I looked at several texts for teaching him Latin. I prefer this one b/c it is a simple yet systematic approach to learning the language. The sequence progresses clearly, logically, and manageably. The audio downloads provide clear, effective support for the lessons (they just repeat the lessons, but sometimes my son ...

a book to share....
The Hungry Planet is most familiar for the photos of some thirty families from very different cultural traditions, each posed with a display of their week's supply of food. The book elaborates on this with many photos of the families at home, at work, at play, in the kitchen, at the market, in the garden. The accompanying reading enhances the experience but is not so extensive as to interrupt the ...

Wonderful
I received this wonderfully written book from a student at the end of the school year. As I read, the trials of the past year slipped away. Through Phillip Done I reconnected with all of the joys of teaching. Now as the new school year approaches, I find myself rereading this tale of life in a third grade classroom. I am excited for the new school year in a way that was absent in years past. ...

I saw this book on a living room table at a party years ago. I was so bored at the party, so I picked it up not knowing what was going to happen to me. I opened the book and was instantly transported to different worlds and cultures that I was surprised I didn't need my passport. The book is a treasure of information and statistics with the images staring back on me each page I turned. I have ...

This is an excellent book. I recommend it highly if you are an angloparolante and are at the intermediate level or higher in Spanish. The explanations are clear, relevant, and usable. A shorter version also by John Butt appears in the Oxford Spanish Desk Dictionary, third edition.
