A Field Guide to Medicinal Plants and Herbs: Of Eastern and Central North America (Peterson Field Guides (R))19 reviews
James A. Duke, Steven Foster

Houghton Mifflin, 1999

MUST HAVE in yoru library
This is another book I am constantly referencing. It is small enough to pack in your backpack or coat pocket if you want to identify plants in the wild. Steven Foster also provides clear photographs to make it far easier to determine the plants. The descriptions are good and have helped me several times identify plants in my region.

Medicinal Plants of the Pacific West9 reviews
Michael Moore

Red Crane Books, 1993

A Revolutionary Book
Medicinal Plants of the Pacific West has been the book I most often refer to when trying to treat a certain ailment or disease. I came across this book when I attended the California School of Herbal Studies in California. Moore's ability to pinpoint specific uses of herbs, but at the same time his ability to admit to being wrong is what attracts me so much to his herbals (not to mention his ...

Complete Medicinal Herbal (Natural Care)20 reviews
Penelope Ody

Dorling Kindersley Publishers Ltd, 1993

Beautiful Reference and CoffeeTable Book
A must have book! If looking for an exhaustive herbal, you might try the German monographs, and others (although I've yet to see an all exhaustive on herbology), but for home or professional use, this is an awesome book! Has some projects, and many uses for the herbs that are in this wonderful book. A library wouldn't be complete without it!

Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West6 reviews
Michael Moore

Museum of New Mexico Press, 2003

Usefull, Detailed, and Funny
An excellent book for beginners, experienced herbalists, and other medical professionals alike. This book, like Michael Moore's others are seldom available used because people keep them and use them-alot . They are usually the most worn from use on any herbalist's shelf- including mine. Medicinal Plants of The Mountain West has lovely and useful illustrations to aid identification. More photos ...

Medicinal Mushrooms: An Exploration of Tradition, Healing, & Culture (Herbs and Health Series)3 reviews
Christopher Hobbs

Botanica Press, 2003

Great treatment of an obscure topic!
Hobbs brings forth great information that is not available elsewhere in English. Just the information about Schizopyllum commune and PSK is worth the price of the book. After reading this book, I no longer pass the medicinal mushrooms by on my forays.

Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms22 reviews
Paul Stamets

Ten Speed Press, 2000

A total must have for the serious mushroom enthusiast.
This book is definitely not a beginners book, but The Mushroom Cultivator is. This book would be step two in your mycological life goal because it focuses more on the advanced techniques and an industrial approach growing mushrooms. I would recommend this book and every other book by Paul Stamets no questions asked.

Edible and Medicinal Plants of the West9 reviews
Gregory L. Tilford

Mountain Press Publishing Company, 1997

The best I've seen yet
Full color photographs of every plant in the book, along with very complete, if brief, descriptions of characteristics and properties. The book itself is compact and easy to carry with you into the field, which is the ONLY place to truly study the subject matter. Enjoy this gem!

Medicinal Plants of the World6 reviews
Ben-Erik van Wyk, Michael Wink

Timber Press, Incorporated, 2004

Excellent reference book..and pretty too...
In the past few years, I have become more interested in herbal remedies and essential oils. Although I have obtained a few good books from the essential oil sources concerning their products, I have also taken the time to investigate and cross-reference material from other sources. Hence, my purchase of MEDICINAL PLANTS by Ben-Erik van Wyk and Michael Wink. While Rodale's book on Herbs ...

Best of Field
Peterson Field Guides has produced another winner. Western Medicinal Plants and Herbs by Steven Foster and Christopher Hobbs is a gorgeous guide book by, pardon the pun, the leaders in the field. Tom Brown's Guide to Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants (Field Guide)17 reviews
Tom Brown

Berkley Trade, 1986

Great for the info it has, but not an identification and classification book
This book is written from the standpoint of someone who needs to use plants either for survival or bush medicine. It is not the best or most accurate filed guide for identifying or classifying plants. I found it best to use this book in conjunction with an Audubon field guide. The Audubon filed guide will give you a picture and a better description of the plant that you are looking for, Tom ...

Medicinal Plants of the Southern Appalachians10 reviews
Patricia, Kyritsi Howell

BotanoLogos, Inc., 2006

A great handbook for everyone
You don't have to live in the southern USA or be able to harvest plants yourself in order to find this guide indispensable in managing your health and well-being. As an urban dweller, I can find these herbs sold in bulk at whole foods stores, and I also use this book to help me analyze what's included in packaged herbal formulas and teas. The extensive Therapeutic Index lets me easily look up ...

Ilil Arbel
