A Great Set
This dictionary and thesaurus set with the CD Rom make a great combination. The books provide excellent word definitions and synonyms for thousands of different words. The CD Rom is handy too in those times that you don't have the books around and just want to look something up quick and easy on your computer. This was definitely a great buy at a great price!

Merriam Webster's Everyday Language Reference Set . . .
Every home needs to be equiped with certain items. A dictionary and thesaurus are two of those items. When looking to purchase these items I went with a name I trusted, Merriam Webster. I decided to purchase the complete set because I found it interesting that it included a vocabulary builder. My family and I choice a word a day from the informative books and use it as much as possible. We ...

Best "get it done" dictionary out there..... period...
My wife has reentered college, and desperately needed a dictionary. She is wearing the pages out on this one, and uses the CD version quite frequently, especially the links to other types of reference, such as the thesaurus and the encyclopedia. Highly recommended reference that is a must have.

Excellent study aid for lower grades!
I purchased hard cover Merriam-Webster's Elementary Dictionary for each one of my First Grade Class to give at the end of the school year as a special prize. The next day two of the boys brought their dictionaries back to school with ALL of the bird pictures in the dictionary marked to show me. Each one could also read the description of the birds pictured. This is a very complete, well ...

Merriam-Webster, 1994
Handy Book for Vocabulary Reference
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms is an interesting research - and I dare to say: entertaining - resource. Because, contrary to what some might think, this is not a thesaurus, but a book which groups words of similar meanings into a topic and explains in a very didactic way and with examples what distinguishes in nuance one from each other so you can use the most appropriate ...

It pays to buy the 'real thing' and not paperbacks and school district and college 'throw aways' whose versions of the English langage were okay fifty years ago but, not now? Amazon has it for more than a affordable price and the finished product will last till you've forgotten how to read?

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2005 ed. ISBN-10:0-87779-636-X (pbk.:alk. paper)
I rate this particular edition 5* because of its handiness and inclusion of almost every word I would use, from academic writing to casual letters. The 8.3 x 5.8 x 1.6 size suits my taste for such a reference. It is not too heavy to carry around; the print is perfectly sized for me, whereas the print of the "typical" paperback book-size dictionary seems too small. I think this edition's ease of ...

A good investment
This thesaurus is very helpful. You will be able to find the word you're looking for about 8-9 times out of 10, which is not bad at all. I am an English major and therefore use my thesaurus quite often and I give it a thumbs up. The price is reasonable. The look is professional. It's a great buy!

Merriam-Webster, 1994
One of the best books on the English language
One thing needs to be clear before you buy this book: it is a dictionary, not a book of grammatical rules. That is, it is much more of a descriptive work than a prescriptive one. A lot of the reviewers here seem to take that to mean that it advocates some sort of linguistic anarchy, but what it really does is inform readers about the different aspects of various usage issues so that they can make ...

Like a Steady, Reliable Friend.
I have used this book as a reliable geographical reference for years and never found it wanting. Both historic and modern places and geographic features are included. I have found everything I needed, from Ash Flat to Pskov. The appendix contains a thorough table of geographical terms in languages other than English, as well as a useful glossary.

Essential for traveling
I have traveled to 25 countries and always take this with me. It is very compact and light. It holds up well when traveling sometimes in the worst of conditions. Most of the maps are two pages and they fold together nicely. Bottom line if you go traveling take something like this with you. It is a great conversation starter and you can easily show people where you live in relation to them.

My Favorite Small Dictionary
This is an elegant and portable little volume in the familiar Langenscheidt yellow and blue. Sturdily bound with flexible plastic covers, it travels well. It is nicely typeset and readable with my trifocals. With 60,000 (brief) entries, it won't do as your only dictionary but will get you by when you do not want to do heavy lifting. I own more than a dozen dictionaries, and this is one of my ...

Not Only For High Schoolers
This was a required purchase at my son's private school. He is in 5th grade, and this dictionary has proven to be a very valuable resource. The definitions are clear and concise. This dictionary is one that can grow along with him, instead of rebuying the next age appropriate resource. I expect that he will continue to use it for many years.
