Lockheed-Martin F/A-22 Raptor: Stealth Fighter (Aerofax) (Aerofax)5 reviews
Jay K. Miller

Midland, 2005

Great F/A-22 Raptor book!
I am a hugh Raptor supporter. Personally, I feel we need this fighter. This book is a detailed analysis of this great fighter. When I received my copy, I read it all the way through. The book is written in great detail by Miller. There is a lot of color and b&w photos taken by Miller himself and through Lockheed Martin archives, many never before released. The pics are crystal clear and ...

British Secret Projects : Jet Fighters Since 19503 reviews
Tony Buttler

Midland, 2001

British Secret projects
In this area of aviation, it is common place to find literature on American X-planes and German post war projects. However it seems as though the rest of the worlds experimental and prototype aeroplanes have been simply overlooked! Thinking I knew the majority of British prototypes, I purchased this book as a 'coffee table' reference only to be pleasantly surprised at the amount of content that ...

Aircraft of the United States' Military Air Transport Service3 reviews
N Williams, Nicholas M. Williams

Midland, 1999

Outstanding Review of MATS
An excellent overview of MATS aircraft as described above. This is a subject that has not been covered in previous publications.

Michelin Midlands and The North, Great Britain Map No. 402 (Michelin Maps & Atlases)4 reviews
Michelin Travel Publications

Michelin Travel Publications, 1999

Michelin knows their stuff
Set to the same scale as a lot of the very good Michelin maps, this map covers all of Scotland with enough detail to make traveling the country easy. It can give you a sense of how far Loch Ness really is from Edinburgh, points out the scenic roads, main roads, back roads; has good detail on the islands; and covers from the border with England up to the top of the country. Any specific city ...

OKB Tupolev: A History of the Design Bureau and its Aircraft4 reviews
Yefim Gordon

Midland, 2006

another fine book by Yefim Gordon.
This book is well produced and loaded with photos, plan views and information about Tupolev aircraft. It is similar to other books in this series, by Midland Publishers in England, about the histories of design bureaus and aircraft of Russia. If you are an aircraft buff this would be great addition to your library. My only complaint is the lack of an index.

The lost girl4 reviews
D. H Lawrence

M. Secker, 1920

A Touching, Soul-Searching Novel
I recently got done reading this wonderful, yet forgotten novel of Lawrence's. Truly compelling in it's intricate details of a young woman trying to find herself. Literally. She goes on the 'universal' self journey and discovers that she was lost and finally finds her identity and sensuality in the man she loves. D.H. Lawrence has a wonderful way of not wrapping up the ending in a nice, neat ...

Mikoyan MiG-31 (Famous Russian Aircraft)4 reviews
Yefim Gordon

Midland, 2005

Best MiG 31 Resource to date
Yefim Gordon has done it again. He has cranked out yet another great book on Russian/fSoviet aircraft and weapons systems. In this book Yefim covers the MiG-31 Foxhound. There are in depth statistics, including Radar modes and performance, Weapon system modes and performance, Weapons, and the general aircraft performance. About the only think I see wrong in the book is that it was ...

Mikoyan MiG-29 (Famous Russian Aircraft)8 reviews
Yefim Gordon

Midland, 2007

Best MiG-29 Resource to date!
This is my second "Famous Russian Aircraft" book series purchase. The MiG-31 book I reviewed several months ago set a bar that this book on the MiG-29 BROKE! Any data from older versions of the MiG-29 that is not currently classified in Russia is in this book. Likewise Gordon has done a good job describing how the MiG corporation has evolved during the time of the MiG-29's production run. ...

Rats in the Grain: The Dirty Tricks and Trials of Archer Daniels Midland, the Supermarket to the World19 reviews
James B. Lieber

Basic Books, 2002

ADM, ... enterprise, punishes whistleblower
Attorney Lieber deserves high praise for his objective, informative presentation of the antitrust criminal case vs. Archer Daniels Midland, the agribusiness giant, that ADM, its powerful lawyers and Clinton's Justice Department did not want published. To his credit, he continued to pursue this case after most reporters backed off and swallowed the dizzying spin and disinformation that ADM's CEO ...

Defenders of Pakistan2 reviews

Midland Publishing, 1988

it moved me
Soldiers are often the best of us. We honor them, we respect them and we look up to them. There is nothing more moving than seeing a brave soldier standing at the border of his/her nation with only one thought in his/her mind and heart... that as long as I am here, no will every harm my family, my people, my nation where I can practice my own beliefs. This book shows some of them at their jobs. ...

The Midland Kid: Tales of the Presidential Ghostwriter3 reviews
Allan Appel

The New Haven Independent Press, 2008

"A comic pre-emptive strike on the Bush legacy"
(From the back of the book:) It is the end of the second disastrous term of conservative President Brewster George, and his shrewed political adviser Raymond Kove realizes the President's legacy needs a shoring up of mythical proportions, especially out West. To launch the presidential legacy (and library), Kove hatches a remarkable plan: While still in office, the President will write a ...

Pulling our own strings: Feminist humor & satire (Midland Books: No. 251)3 reviews

Indiana University Press, 1980

Best Feminist Humor collection I've read
The title says it all: I've read perhaps twenty different Feminist humor collections, every one I could find, and this is the best one. I would recommend this to every woman, feminist or not -- Pick up a used copy, it won't set you back much. And enjoy.

Nicholas I, emperor and autocrat of all the Russias (Midland Books: No. 254)3 reviews
W. Bruce Lincoln

Indiana University Press, 1978

A standard work on Russia's most-ignored Tsar
Nicholas I has always had a bad press in Russia as well as abroad. The Russians considered his regime to be harsh, riddled with contemptuous foreigners, in short 'un-Russian'. This image was created by exiles such as Herzen and Bakunin, and reinforced in communist times. In the West, Nicholas rigorous opposition to political novelties like constitutions and republics did little to improve his ...

Sukhoi Su-27: Famous Russian Aircraft (Famous Russian Aircraft S.)3 reviews
Yefim Gordon

Midland Counties Publ., 2007

Truely Breathless - Yefim Gordon's Best Work - 10 Stars
First Impression I have been anxiously waiting for the delivery of this book and honestly, I was not disappointed at all. This book is heavy, hardcover with dust-jacket, 592 pages (glossy paper) in total. It is filled with countless number of pictures (most colour), colour profiles and line drawing of all types of SU-27 and variants. I owned a copy of Yefim's earlier book (1999) "Sukhoi ...

Lincoln Finds A General (Midland Bks: No. 359)3 reviews
Williams

Indiana University Press, 1985

Colorful; technically correct, yet also easy to read
Excellent analysis of beginning of Civil War and McClellan's rise/beginning of his fall. William's easily readable, yet thorough analysis of the political and military goings-on just prior to the fall of Fort Sumter through Antietam makes one anxious to read the complete set of Lincoln Finds a General. Obviously no fan of McCellan, Kenneth Williams makes an eloquent case against "the ...

The managerial revolution (A Midland book, MB23)3 reviews
James Burnham

Indiana University Press, 1960

Classic
Burnham's Managerial Revolution was published in 1940, almost 20 years before J.K. Galbraith's more famous The New Industrial State (1958), but contains most of the important ideas concerning the rise of a managerial class with loyalties more to its own class than to the owners of the enterprise (capital, shareholders), which later made Galbraith famous. Other than the fact that Burnham (once a ...

Classic Airliners: 76 Older Types Worldwide, Described and Illustrated in Color2 reviews
Tom Singfield

Midland, 2001

A Classic Tribute to Classic Airliners
Whether you are a seasoned airliner aficionado like a casual or curious observer, or myself this small book contains a treasure trove of facts and anecdotes on airliners ranging from the 14-seat De Havilland Heron to the mighty Boeing 747-100/-200. Mr. Singfield accommodates nearly everyone's definition of a classic airliner; his criteria for inclusion are that the type must be out of production ...

OKB Ilyushin: A History of the Design Bureau and its Aircraft3 reviews
Yefim Gordon

Midland, 2005

Opening the Iron Curtain on Aviation!
Yefim Gordon has done a marvelous service to aviation history with this impressive work. He is helping to crack open a subject long masked by cold war secrecy. This is just one of several very good recent books on Soviet/Russian aircraft that he and others such as Dmitriy and Sergey Komissarov and Vladimir Rigmant (to name just some of them) have co-authored in varying combinations. The ...

Rational Man: A Modern Interpretation of Aristotelian Ethics (Midland Books: No. 71)3 reviews
Henry Babcock Veatch

Indiana Univ Pr, 1962

A contemporary interpretation of Aristotle's Nichomean Ethic
Probably the finest tribute to this book comes from Mortimer J.Adler, who, in the addendum to "The Time of Our Lives", and repeated in "Desires, Right and Wrong", gives Mr Veatch credit for writing the only common sense interpretation of Aristotle's Nichomean Ethics in modern times. In easy to read, entertaining fashion, Veatch makes Aristotle, as it applies to today's world, as clear and ...
