Ultimate Sniper 2006 : An Advanced Training Manual for Military and Police Snipers (Ultimate Sniper, 2006 New ...9 reviews

Paladin Press, 2006

Great book for snipers or marksmen.
I bought the original version of this book at an Army PX in 1995. It was great then, the updated version is even better. When my original became so worn from use it was falling apart I ordered the new version from Maj. Plater's website. He even made it out to me and signed the front and back covers. Whether you are a police of military sniper or you just want to learn some techniques (or find out ...

Disarmed And Dangerous: The Radical Life And Times Of Daniel And Philip Berrigan, Brothers In Religious Faith ...3 reviews
Murray Polner, Jim O'grady

Westview Press, 1998

AN IMPORTANT AND WELL DONE NEW BOOK ABOUT THE BERRIGANS!
The most famous Roman Catholics in America in the 1960's were two priests who were (still are) brothers: Philip and Daniel Berrigan, the former a priest member of the Society Of St. Joseph (commonly known as the "Josephites," an order dedicated to serving the Black community), the latter a Jesuit. SSJ and SJ respectively. Starting in the 1960's, these two priests broke a lot of laws, and served ...

A Human Being Died That Night: A South African Story of Forgiveness7 reviews
Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela

Houghton Mifflin, 2003

we could all learn ....
It's a pity more of our current political leaders aren't reading books such as this one. Forgiveness, open hearts, the space to grow - how can this be anything but good? I heard Gobodo-Madikizela on NPR, inspiring me to read her book. It's amazing. I'd recommend it highly.

Black Glasses Like Clark Kent: A GI's Secret from Postwar Japan3 reviews
Terese Svoboda

Graywolf Press, 2008

Artful, Sly, and honest
Black Glasses Like Clark Kent is one of those non fiction books that reads like a novel, almost a French novel, in that the narrator is self-aware and weaving the opinions and feelings and revelations of the characters in the story around the action of the book. The action is haunting -- what DID happen to the MPs and their prisoners in Postwar Japan and why does no one want to talk about it -- ...

Official Soviet Mosin-Nagant Rifle Manual: Operating Instructions for the Model 1891/30 Rifle and Model 1938 ...4 reviews
U.S.S.R. Army

Paladin Press, 2000

Very informative book
This book is essential for anyone who owns a M44 type, Mosin Nagant rifle. It is easy to read and has some very detailed schematics. There is also some information that was supplied to Russian soldiers that show how to fight with the bayonet, etc. There is even a section showing how to shoot down enemy aircraft. Overall, it was well worth the money.

Modern Combat Pistols: The Development of Semi-automatic Pistols for Military and Police Service Since 19453 reviews
Maxim Popenker, Anthony G. Williams

Crowood, 2007

Impressive - accurate, useful information and well written
Finally, an excellent reference book with original work, lots of identifying photos and an absence of reproduced catalogue pages. The book's content is consistent with the title and it is written and organized in a manner appropriate for a historical piece. The author opens by defining frequently used terms, the book's structure and providing an overview; pistol versus revolver, military ...

Beyond Pepper Spray: The Complete Guide to Chemical Agents, Delivery Systems, and Protective Masks3 reviews
Michael E. Conti

Paladin Press, 2002

Great reference source!
Great source of material about this subject. Everything is covered and in great detail. Not just another book listing manufacturer's info, but includes the history of the products as well - interesting reading and great photos (old historical and new photos). Chapter on gas masks makes things clear as well.

The Military and Police Sniper: Advanced Precision Shooting for Combat and Law Enforcement9 reviews
Mike R. Lau

Precision Shooting Inc, 2000

You got to have two brains!
You have to have at least two brains to shoot. A cognitive thinking mind and a trigger brain. the trigger brain is much like the lizard brain and just lays there until you're up to your butt in aligators. This is definately a book of 'Brain Food' for both brains that you'll likely turn into a handy referance if you find yourself like me...your trigger brain remembers more than your cognitive ...

Kenneth R. Murray

Armiger Publications, 2004

The Bible to Reality Based Training
This is a must read/own book for those invovled in reality based training (RBT). One of the best training components/tools for law enforcement/military is RBT, however, as "sexy" and as exciting as RBT seems, it is critical that training personnel understand the responsiblity for providing efficient, effective, SAFE!!! training. Kenneth Murray's book covers the major facets of RBT and how to ...

Resurrecting the Iraqi Police: Observations of an American street cop in Iraq2 reviews
Larry D Allen

iUniverse, Inc., 2007

Very enlightening!
This book is written with a casual conversational type style, yet the author has pretty straight forward opinions to offer. His extensive background in law enforcement and his military experience through wars lend credibility to his perspective and projections, which help to explain some of the complexities of the war in Iraq. A must if you are interested in a view from the inside on whether or ...

GESTAPO: A History of Hitler's Secret Police2 reviews
Rupert Butler

Casemate, 2004

Life Is Cheap In The Hands Of Hitler's Barbarians
This book by author Rupert Butler is a fairly quick read (185 pages of text) revealing the barbarity of members of Hitler's Third Reich in carrying out executions of millions of individuals. Numerous photos of the infamous characters both in their heyday and death add to the book's interest. Incidents such as the assassination of The Butcher of Prague, Reinhard Heydrich, and the July, 1944 bomb ...

The Tenth Man: Living Black in Blue2 reviews
Charles, E. Day

AuthorHouse, 2007

A Black Man's Tribute to His Father
It is extremely rare, especially in these times, to read a book such as this. This is a very moving story of the struggles of being one of Savannah, Georgia's first Black police officers, and a story of family, love, dedication, and a legacy. The author truly bares his soul in this book, and you can just about "feel" all of his emotions as you're reading it. In addition to this poignant tribute, ...

Spymaster: The Real-life Karla, His Moles, And The East German Secret Police3 reviews
Leslie Colitt

Da Capo Press, 1995

A riveting, intelligent portrait of a cold war spy
Having travelled to East Berlin during the 50's and 60's, I thought this book would be of some interest. I was not prepared to be as thoroughly enthralled by this account of the East German secret police and its deputy minister, Markus Wolf, as I was. It was an unexpected find! Colitt obviously knows his subject and has created a spellbinding historical account.

Creating the Secret State: The Origins of the Central Intelligence Agency, 1943-19472 reviews
David F. Rudgers

University Press of Kansas, 2000

Deep Insider-Doctoral History, Relevant Today
This is an admirable and unusual work, of doctoral-level quality in its sources and methods, while also reflecting the professional intelligence career status of the author. It complements Amy Zegart's broader book, Flawed By Design, in an excellent manner. This book, focusing as it does on the CIA alone, and on internal sources not readily available to Zegart, fills a major gap in our ...

Griffin: Three Complete Novels2 reviews
W. E. B. Griffin

Putnam Adult, 1997

Great Compilation
W. E. B. Griffin (William Butterworth) is one of the true masters at creating realistic characters, with all the strengths and weaknesses, and spinning great stories around them. These three novels are books 4-6 of his Philadelphia Police series featuring Matt Payne, Peter Wohl, Jason Washington, and a recurring cast of supporting players.
