Pleasantly surprised
I was very pleased with this book, especially after my husband had read it and to my surprise, my pleasant surprise, showed a great interest in the subject. He came out, if that is the correct expression during dinner a couple of weeks ago.His inhibitions loosened by the wine, he said, if I was interested he would like to try out some of the techniques in the book. Boy oh boy was I interested. My ...

The Best!!!
This is by far, the best book in the series. It had me hooked and I read every other book by Phillipa Gregory simply because this one is so good. I found the rest were not as good as this, but were wonderful too. This is simply not to be competed with.

Eugenides says "the perishable nature of love is what gives love its profound importance in our lives."
Jeffrey Eugenides titled this book from a Latin poet, Catullus (84 BC), who wrote a poem which includes the title line in translation. It's a foreshadowing of the themes of the collected stories within, themes involving the bittersweet, well that's an understatement, aspects of love. Love affairs are often just that -- affairs. Eugenides remarks that Catullus' poems "speak to the stories in ...

Once in a Generation
Rarely -perhaps a for times in a generation - does a book come to be which explores the bedrock philosophy of economics & the nature of an economy, the arbitrary yet inevitable evolution of societal norms, the paths that humanity faces in our collective future, and so on... all in the format of a gripping and vastly creative novel. Heinlein's now-famous concept "TANSTAAFL" -"there 'aint no ...

Great book
I really enjoyed this book. I enjoy reading about restoration england. Forever Amber is a great one to read if you like this time period. It was interesting to read something from the point of view of Barbara Palmer and def. dealt with her more sympathetically than most novels have.

Renee Bernard is certainly the author to read for this regency between a man and woman who hold secrets but can't stay away from one another. Fantastic book, fantastic series! Doesn't disappoint.
This is a fantastic conclusion to the thrilling series on the other side of the Riftwar! Although the companion series (Riftwar Saga) should be read first, I accidentally started by reading this book, and it was fantastic! It can be read as a stand-alone novel, but the experience is so much richer when the novels are read in order. I've read the whole series about six times! The authors have ...

Mistress
I'd heard and read about Nell Gwynn but until I read this book I didn't know she was King Charles II's royal mistress for over 17 years. How she kept him interested that long when others came and went over that period of time was truly an eye opener. If Charles had not been king I truly believe he would have married her. Great read!

Searching For an Identity
A. M. Homes always knew she was adopted. She spent her life trying to discover where she `fit in'. When Homes was 31, her biological mother contacted her. This is the story of Homes' struggle with her identity, as well as her attempts to connect with her birth parents. While reading this book, I was struck by just how honest Homes is about her thoughts and feelings. The basic story of her ...

MARVELOUS!!
I am a huge fan of Showtime's "The Tudors" so wondered just how closely the book would follow the script. As I read along, I could visualize perfectly the different scenes from the show. I could hear the characters voices during the different scenes. It has renewed my excitement for the 2nd season to start! Can't wait for the next book to come out!

I LOVED this book!!
I spent many late nights turning pages because I couldn't put this book down. However, I must qualify something: I am a historical romance lover and this book reads almost like one. To be sure, there is plenty of History in this book, but its context is so integral to the story that I hardly noticed it (I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not). Although I am in my mid 40's and loved this ...

Priceless!
I was not too sure about what I was in for when I picked up this book. I had seen the movie "Chocolat" and I thought that this book might have a story that was somewhat similar. Instead, I was taken into a world of Tilo, an Indian immigrant, running a spice shop in Oakland California. More than the story itself, the descriptions and the narratives are the real essence of this book. The life of ...

FOREVER A CLASSIC, IS FOREVER AMBER
If you have not read this or if you were thinking about reading this book, i cannot stress enough...how important it is in timeless literature! This book is a long one, HOWEVER! do-not be discouraged by the sheer volume...for when you reach that last page you will wish they hadn't cut so much out when Winsor put it in print in 1944. I know that most book stores label it as 'romance', but honestly ...

The Sun King's 1st Mistress
A very enjoyable novel. I particularly enjoyed the childhood of Louise de la Vallière; the tale of Her relationship to horses, and Her use of "Bone Magic" to tame a stallion, which intensifies her Religiosity later in life. The author also describes Louis XIV -the human man vs. The King- very well, so I almost love him, too. The scene where Louise first comes to the real attention of the ...
