Excellent book!
I felt this book was insightful, concise, and most importantly helpful. The strategies in this book focus on automatic thoughts, your perception of your mate, and how to foster good communication. The tone of the book is very friendly and non confrontational. If your relationship is in trouble, or you just want to improve your relationships, this is a good book to get.

Two smart and funny cookies!
Luckily, I saw these two fight it out in person at a book signing and knew I had to read the entire exchange. Funny, witty, really explosive at times, and always tempered by an underlying certainty on Winegarten's part that he's the honcho, but you quickly realize that this is far from the truth. Despite her slender frame, Barreca is the heavyweight in this duo, and what a remarkable literary ...

Impartial & well presented views on both cultures
This book presents impartially both French & American perspectives on some major topics in daily life (conversation, parent-child relationship, information exchange, blame, ...) through some simple daily cultural misunderstanding scenes. It shade some light on how both sides look at the same issue, and accordingly how they act, and how different they are! All is presented without some fancy ...

The book generally followed the plot line of P and P, but the author's plot took an alternate path that seemed plausible. What I like in a P and P variation is that the characters remain fairly faithful to Jane's origianl story. I think Kara accomplished that and I would recommend the book to anyone who likes a good 19th century romance.

Living out the teachings of Isa
By going to Muslim leaders, Mark utilizes his ex-Congressman's "edge" while actually doing what Jesus (Isa) taught. There is a way to relate to our "enemies" with love, forgiveness, blessing or "doing good", as well as prayer for and with them. Westerners, especially we Evangelicals, need to learn "bridge-building" instead of war and enmity. Mark Siljander shows us how, and it works! With a few ...

Outdoor hilarity
After a rousing introduction, Peterson bestows on the lucky reader the writings of P.J. O'Rourke, Jean Shepard, and James Thurber on the manly pastimes of hunting and fishing. Russell Chatham joins in with the title story and women keep pace with Nancy Anisfield on a grouse hunt. The contents are woven in an artful fashion so the book can be enjoyed at random or read from cover to cover. Two ...

Very Helpful for Thinking About How Students/Faculty Think
I really enjoyed this book, and I don't teach English or writing! Not only was it an interesting story, it was very helpful in thinking through how students learn. We've all heard faculty comment about students who "just don't get it"...well here is a book that helps you understand why. Hunt's synthesis of developmental theories posed by Perry and others is really helpful in understanding why ...

Never Be a Slave to Grammar Again!
In this easy to read book, Ronald Wardhaugh disspells some of the most persistent taboos of the English language, for example ending sentences with prepositions. However, in this book you learn that such rules of the grammarian have absolutely nothing to do with English and everything to do with trying to shoehorn English into the form of Latin. Wardhaugh helps the reader to understand that ...

Brevity is the soul of wit
My copy of this wonderful book was handed down to me from my grandmother. The cover is half torn off, and it has received much love from myself and my friends from the time I was 13 or so. The book re-interprets such plays as "Merchant of Venice", "Romeo and Juliet", "Hamlet", "Othello", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and "MacBeth", poking fun at their plots in a witty and intelligent way. It ...

Some interesting facts about the Bible and Bible Translations
This is a rather variable book with a couple of fascinating chapters, including different heresies, sects and cults and translation and printing errors but with other rather dull sections with strange things that students, celebrities and pop culture think about the Bible. The title suggests this book contains funny items but there aren't many of those, it's a general look at the way in which ...

A "must read" book !
I was a test engineer for a sub-contractor on this "black hole" program . During my two year stay on the program , I certainly saw no "waste and fraud" nor did a good friend of mine at GD who was very closely associated with the program. For those two years we put in very long hours 6 to 7 days a week and had all of our "state of the art" test equipment up and running and certified ahead of ...

Changed the Literary World
In the late 1950's, you couldn't even curse in a novel. You had to dance around sex, and you certainly couldn't portray race relations in an honest light. How in the world was a realistic story ever told? Along comes Robert Gover, an American whose novel was exiled to Europe by the puritan values that would soon tumble. One Hundred Dollar Misunderstanding makes cartoon characters out of the ...
Misunderstanding Cults: Searching for Objectivity in a Controversial Field

Misunderstanding Cults provides a uniquely balanced contribution to what has become a highly polarized area of study. Working towards a moderate "third path" in the heated debate over new religious movements or cults, this collection includes contributions from both scholars who have been characterized as "anticult" and those characterized as "cult-apologists." The study incorporates multiple viewpoints as well as a variety of theoretical and ...
