People cared for beautifully.
Gerry Badger, in a listing of 250 key photographers, refers to Jock Sturges as the leading photographer of the "natural" nude (p. 170, Collecting Photography, Mitchell Beazley). This is fine, as far as it goes, but is too limited an introduction to Mr. Sturges's work. Mr. Sturges's photography is not limited to nudes. Neither can his subject matter be properly described as the nude or the ...

This book is one of the more captivating presentations of an artist's work in recent years. The simple, but elegant design allows the viewer to witness the progress of a lifetime of substantial work in an orderly fashion; a huge, significant body of work that speaks volumes for art history, woman history and contemporary global thinking. This book presents a rich documentation of a nomadic ...

Addressed the hard questions no one else could anwer for me...
When faced with a trauma in my life, I began to read prolifically on the topic of pain and suffering. Although many authors touched the surface of the storm of questions whirling inside me none addressed the depths of my doubts. This has been the most satisfying and comforting book I've read on suffering and what it means to believe in a loving, sovereign and wise God through it all. I tell ...

Angry artist with a great sense of humor
I really hate 99% of graffiti. It is destructive and at best it's bad art, but usually it's just plain crap done by really stupid bored kids. Destruction is always the simplest thing to do. That said - Bansky is brilliant. He is an artist (better yet an angry artist with a lot to say and a n excellent sense of humor). This book is a must for lovers of contemporary art.

Superheroes should feel honored to be drawn by him
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3S4O2IVIDB15U This book on Alex Ross comic art is stunning. There are comics where the characters are brought to life by the art and story, but you know that they are still created from imagination. With Alex Ross, it seems like he's drawing a character that really exists. His sense of realism is unparalleled. He blurs the line between fantasy and ...

Brilliant
I bought this book after re-watching the movie taken largely from this exhaustive biography. As someone who has read many bios, let me say that this is a refreshing and encouraging alternative to the fawning and excessive grocery store drivel and/or the dull and fact-filled dissertations that describe most biographies. Hayden Herrera manages to combine a staggeringly comprehensive detailing of ...

The Soul of An Artist
Irving Stone created a wondeful biography of Van Gogh, who is one of the definative "tortured" artists if for nothing more than his name is synonymous with the phrase to most people who are even casual fans of art. In this book Stone captures the emotions of Van Gogh and the highs and lows of his life. This sheds even more meaning on his works of art. I was fortunate enough to see a Van Gogh ...

Sacred Mirrors Art
This book is %95 pictures and the rest is just explanation of the artist's concept. The paintings are so detailed and keeps you entertained. This book makes a good addition to an art book collection. Grey's painting technique is very good, he draws human figures that show their veins, muscles and energy. Every piece is similar to the others but have a unique look. Worth buying.

Beautiful color work and imagination
This collection is basically Barlowe's visual interpretation of Dante's Inferno from The Divine Comedy. Each painting has a page of description pointing out the purpose and reason for every detail in the image. From a tortorous picture of Lillith, to the haunting painting of a minor demon riding on the backs of several tortoured souls held together with muck, they are each fascinating to ...

Gorgeous pictures
I was lucky enough to see this exhilarating Calder exhibition in NY. This book of Calders jewelry is simply gorgeous and does justice to the originals. The photographs of the jewelry pieces are crisp and beautiful- a real visual pleasure. One of the nicest art books I have seen and a must have for Calder fans.

The best book out there on J.W. Waterhouse!
This is the best book I have found on J.W. Waterhouse. Not only does this book talk about the painter's life, but more importantly, each of J.W .Waterhouse's paintings are described in very full detail (eg: OPHELIA). I was so intrigued by reading about Waterhouses' pictures, because the author of this wonderful book (ie: PETER TRIPPI) elaborated in great detail about each work of Art, by ...

Excellent!
I just picked up the hardcover edition yesterday at the bargain section of my local bookstore. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It's in chronological order of R. Crumb's work broken into chapters. Each chapter starts with a write up by him telling about what was going on in his life at that time, and how some of the drawings came to be. I find him to be a fascinating artist. He ...
