Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself46 reviews
Alan Alda

Random House, 2007

Smooth
Alda's down to earth brief sketch of his life and career was very enjoyable reading. After reading it I thought that Alda turned out to be a fascinating person in spite of being raised by a not with it mother and distant father. He gave some good ideas on how to live with his recalling of the graduation speaches he was asked to give along the way.

All by Myself (Look-Look)11 reviews

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2001

Excellent
My son is 8 yrs old and loves this series of books. The reading is fairly easy and the stories short so it keeps his interest. We read them as bed time stories and they are perfect. We own several of this series and we like them all.

How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling79 reviews
Frank Bettger

Fireside, 1992

A classic text that remains absolutely relevant for the modern salesperson
This is a classic book on fundamental sales techniques that remains sound after 60 years and dozens of printings. Yes, some of the pronouns are out of date (he assumes that all the sales professionals are men and all the secretaries are women - or that there are even secretaries - and so forth) and the dollar amounts given are made largely irrelevant by the inexorable power of inflation. ...

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (I Can Read It All by Myself)122 reviews
Dr. Seuss, Theodor Seuss Geisel

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1960

Another classic Dr Seuss book
Although its not as great as The Cat in the Hat, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is certainly one of my children's favorites, and they especially love trying to read some of the rhymes outloud. Certainly a great choice for a book for your young ones.

Teach Me to Do It Myself: Montessori Activities for You and Your Child7 reviews
Maja Pitamic

Barron's Educational Series, 2004

One of the best home Montessori books for preschool age
I also have _Montessori Play & Learn_ and _Teaching Montessori in the Home: The Preschool Years_. This one contains the same type of activities, but somehow makes it seem simpler than the others, and seems to require less complicated special equipment to be bought or made. If you're only going to buy one Montessori book to use with your preschooler, I would recommend this one. Update: This ...

I'm a Stranger Here Myself: Notes on Returning to America After 20 Years Away217 reviews
Bill Bryson

Broadway, 2000

a hilarious account on coming back to the native land
With "I'm a Stranger Here Myself" Bill Bryson proved to me that I was wrong thinking that "A Walk in the Woods" was unsurpassable. This collection of essays about the United States of America and the lifestyle and often puzzling habits of its inhabitants is a true gem. Now, I might be biased, because I found a lot of my own experience as a foreigner living in America very similar and therefore ...

Green Eggs and Ham (I Can Read It All by Myself Beginner Books)219 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1960

Fun for kids and adults!
I forgot how much I loved this book until I began reading it for my 3-year-old. She loves it, and I love reading it to her (unlike the ELMO books which our daughter loves and I dread). You really can't go wrong with Dr. Seuss. The illustrations are imaginative and the writing is really a work of genius in children's literature. I can't recommend this highly enough.

Couldn't Keep It to Myself: Wally Lamb and the Women of York Correctional Institution (Testimonies from our ...58 reviews
Wally Lamb

Harper Perennial, 2004

We all live in Glass Houses
I was completely captivated by this book. As you read, you feel so many emotions and become absorbed by each inmate's story and experiences. Most of all, I loved the books humanistic perspective. The stories allow you to see these women for more than just crimes they committed. They are woman, mothers, and sisters who were shaped by abusive childhoods/relationships, drug/alcohol addiction, ...

Save Me from Myself: How I Found God, Quit Korn, Kicked Drugs, and Lived to Tell My Story86 reviews
Brian "Head" Welch

HarperOne, 2007

A Real Inspiration
Brian "Head" Welch really turned his life around and this book tells all about it. When I first heard he quit Korn I thought it was so lame. Then I began going through some incredibly difficult times with drugs, anger and a very abusive relationship. My counselor recommended this book to me. My parents bought it for me for my birthday. I read it cover to cover two times. Man, Brian and I ...

I Like Myself!27 reviews
Karen Beaumont

Harcourt Children's Books, 2004

Thank God For Self Love
In 1st grade "instruction" I do a lot of work on "liking others and liking self." Truthfully 6 year olds can loathe themselves with especial ferocity IF they do not feel acceptance, warmth and love. If hated they will learn to hate themselves, if resented learn to resent. Models mean everything at this stage. When they are excessively corrected, punished and criticized over gently guided and ...

A Gift to Myself: A Personal Workbook and Guide to "Healing the Child Within"10 reviews
Charles L. Whitfield

HCI, 1990

Must Have With Companion Book
This simple workbook takes 3-5 years to work through in order to arrive at a point where one will recognize who they truly are in the big and little picture called life. Absolutely required if one seriously is on a journey of discovery and is prepared to take steps to wholeness. This workbook will not make much sense unless using it in conjunction with the parent book Healing the Child Within.

Boundary Power: How I Treat You, How I Let You Treat Me, How I Treat Myself7 reviews
Mike O'Neil, Charles E. Newbold

Sonlight Publishing, 1994

*The* Best Boundary Book Available
This workbook explains the concept of boundaries, helps readers learn how to identify unhealthy boundaries, and learn to set new, healthier boundaries on all levels. It doesn't shy away from the tough questions, like "How have you violated someone's boundary recently?" Although from a Christian perspective, and containing a full (and excellent) chapter on religious boundary violations, those of ...

Dr. Seuss's ABC (I Can Read It All By Myself Beginner Books)36 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1960

X is very useful if your name is Nixie Knox...
Dr. Seuss's ABC Beginner Book is perhaps the best way I know to introduce your child to the alphabet. There's a lot of fun for young children in this book; the illustrations are wonderful and the use of the letters in making new words for children is excellent. It truly reflects well on Dr. Seuss that he wrote such a fine book for young child just beginning to learn how to read. This book ...

Helping Me Help Myself: One Skeptic, Ten Self-Help Gurus, and a Year on the Brink of the Comfort Zone67 reviews
Beth Lisick

William Morrow, 2008

I now MUST read everything Beth Lisick has ever written!
I approached Helping Me Help Myself with a show-me attitude. Truthfully, I thought it might be some amusing break-room reading during lunch. However, after only a few pages Beth Lisick swept me away into her under-organized, out-of-shape life on a desperately amusing search for The Cure -- The Cure for, well ... whateveryagot! For the modern American, there is now a life coach or self-help ...

Put Me in the Zoo (Beginner Books(R))33 reviews

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1960

Put Me in the Zoo
My grandchildren(ages 3 & 4) were fascinated with this library book. They wanted it read over and over, in fact, they loved it so much that I decided to buy it. It is an excellent reader for beginners and they get great fun out of attempting to read the words.

Myself and Other More Important Matters1 review
Charles B. Handy

AMACOM/American Management Association, 2008

Brilliant, thought provoking retrospective
Charles Handy's autobiography is a beautifully written retrospective on a fascinating life. By sharing some of his experiences you get a wonderful perspective on what he thinks is important in life; family, friends and doing things you are passionate about. It was a thoroughly engaging read.

Taking Care of Myself: A Hygiene, Puberty and Personal Curriculum for Young People with Autism2 reviews
Mary Wrobel

Future Horizons, 2003

Suitable for boys and girls on the autism spectrum
My son turned ten a few months ago so I decided Personal Hygiene and Puberty were topics we needed to delve into. I am very glad I purchased this book since it covered Deodorant, shaving, growth spurts and using a urinal. My 10 year old is high functioning and his almost nine year old sibling is non-verbal and could benefit from some of the chapters as he gets older. Throughout the book ...

The Bear Went Over the Mountain-Finding America. Finding Myself.2 reviews
Carll Tucker

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., 2008

A tour of the country, of our presidents and vice-presidents, and through Tucker's life
Carll Tucker was going through the kind of restlessness that many people feel in their 40s and 50s. During mine, I went and got an MBA from the University of Michigan. Tucker's approach was much less conventional. He decided to get a motor home and head out on the road for nine months visiting the graves of all the Presidents and Vice-Presidents. The Vice-Presidents is the especially cool ...
