a must have for any neonatal nurse
The core curriculum is a must have for any neonatal nurse. It's the "bible" of neonatal nursing guidelines. An excellent reference to have each day you work. Easy to read and follow along. Good pictures. I traveled to another country to teach nurses how to care for premature babies, and this was the first book to get packed into my suitcase!

Breast is best
I love all of Dr. Sears books and this one is no different. Reading and understanding is important if you want to breastfeed. There really is so much joy and pride for giving your baby the best only you can give him/her. This book really helps you understand the basics, benefits, different feeding positions, reasons to breastfeed and continue to breastfeed among many other things.

Great resource for study!
I would definitely recommend all of the "reviews and rationales" books. As a nursing student, I find this is a great resource book that highlights the important things. It takes a lot of time to read a textbook and I don't usually get much from it. This book composes the information in lists and also includes some helpful tables as well as things that are important to know for NCLEX. My favorite ...

Great Study Guide
I had originally planned on reading the Core Curriculum text, but then realized that wasn't going to happen. Instead, I just did the review questions in this book. It is divided by topic and gives rationales for all the answers in the book. I went through the book once and passed my NICU RNC exam on my first try.

Excellent book for preemie parents
My baby is a micro-preemie that was born at 24 weeks and 1 day gestationally. He is now 28 weeks gestational age. The NICU loaned me a copy and I pretty much devoured it. This book was wonderful in letting me know what to expect and where my preeemie was developement wise. He has had two surgeries (for a collapsed lung and PDA) and the book helped to calm my fears and inform me of the process. ...

Comprehensive, yet riddled with typo's and careless errors
I used this book for the past term in grad school. It is quite detailed in anatomy and biochemistry. Susan Blackburn incorporates many research studies into the text. Perhaps that is what makes the information at times contradictory. There are misspellings and typos here and there. There are some statements that don't make sense, and are written opposite of what should be. For example, page 701, ...

The pediatric population is a dynamic group, with major changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics taking place throughout infancy and childhood. Because of these vital changes, the need for the evaluation and establishment of medication dosing regimens in children of different ages is great. The Pediatric Dosage Handbook, 15th Edition, continues to be the trusted information resource for medical professionals managing pediatric patients.

Excellent Resource
The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program provides an excellent overall view to not only stabilizing infants for transport, but caring for them on an everyday basis. STABLE works as an excellent adjuct to NRP, but is NOT a replacement for NRP. I highly recommend this book for anyone involved in the care of neonates - especially those in rural hospitals who rarely deal with ill neonates. As a nurse in a ...

A must-have for nights on-call in the NICU!
This book, particularly the new 5th edition (released in August, 2003) is a must-have for on-call nights in the NICU. Although not as complete in terms of information as a full textbook, this book contains a blurb on nearly every topic one might encounter in the NICU. It is also surprisingly up to date for a textbook, containing the latest standards of care on controversial topics such as PPHN, ...

I do locum tenens (temporary) doctoring and when I go on an assignment this is the first book to go in my suitcase. I take it to the office with me in the morning and take it home at night in case I get a question that I need it for. It is clear, concise, comprehensive and as authoritative as any text can be. The fourth edition of this text is intended for pediatric nursing courses, one of the required courses in nursing programs. The most concise, readable pediatric nursing text for use in RN programs. Exceptionally user-friendly and up-to-date, it uses a unique body system approach rather than developmental stages, allowing faculty to teach pediatrics in integrated course or short course without redundancy. This approach also focuses students ...
