A Must Read Hybrid from Sports and Business Worlds
Before being accused of `going Hollywood,' I was an NFL writer for 20 years, the final 10 for The New York Times and USA Today. I wrote a book with Joe Montana and made a football film with Oliver Stone. And I can tell you this: Bob LaMonte is a classic American story, a former high school teacher who now controls the NFL coaching market as an agent much like Leigh Steinberg did with ...

Great guide that should have been included with the game!
This is a high quality guide for NFL Head Coach 09, which is currently (August 13, 2008) only available when you buy the bundled Collectors Edition of Madden 09. This is the guide that should have been included with the game itself. Nearly half of this guide is filled with instructions on HOW to play the game and HOW to use the Play Editor - and that's a good thing. The lame 12 page ...

Inside stuff
"The Birth of the New NFL" by Larry Felser displays the power of access. When the American Football League started up in 1960, everyone was essentially in it together -- owners, administrators, players and media. There were no foundational barriers in place. That meant that everyone was much closer personally, enabling reporters to know what was really going on. Every AFL city had one or two ...

all good
Everyone I know who has had any recipe from this book loved it. I know that sounds ridiculous but kids and adults have enjoyed it. The recipes are not extremely difficult most of the ingredients are things you probably already have in the house. If you happen to be an NFL fan it just seems cool to have this cook book but really anybody should check this cookbook out.

OK, but not really worth the $
There is some good information here on offenses and defenses in the game and some generic information on all the NFL teams. But there is no specific information on plays to call for each team. Other issues: - At times the guide references the XBOX and PS2 controls. Other times the PS3 is mentioned. Why not list controls for all consoles or at the least be consistent? - Several typos / ...

An enjoyable look at the NFL's big day
While not exactly a pieced of hard-hitting investigative journalism, Williams' book is one that most NFL fans will find enjoyable. It's not to cause much in the way of controversy because of its non-critical tone towards players, agents, coaches, and just about everyone involved in the draft, but it's still a good look at the process involved when a player moves from college to the pro ranks. ...

Coach of the Decade (the 1980's)
Bill Walsh was the brilliant, insecure coach who won immortality with the the San Francisco 49ers in the 1980's. Mr. Harris follows his career from the Bengals of Paul Brown to Stanford (and other stops in-between) to the 49ers. He perfected an air attack that became known as the West Coast Offense and drafted the players to carry it out (Joe Montana, Dwight Clark, Jerry Rice, etc). The book is ...

If your child loves football this is the counting book for you! My family loves football. My two year old son memorized this book very quickly. It has everything from real NFL stars in uniform to footballs, referees, cheerleaders, trophies. Any football book had my son's complete attention. My son now easily counts to 12 at 2 yrs old. worse agent ever
Why would anyone pay money to take advice from a man which has no clue. I hope you don't get your way and destroy the NFL.. The greatest game we have. Its not all about the money, its about being part of the community and given part of yourself back. Setting a good example for further kids coming up through the ranks. You can't take it with you, but you can leave behind a legacy.

Creating Big Business from Sports
I wasn't around then, but from reading it seems to me that during World War II baseball was indeed America's pastime. Football was a distant relative, perhaps about where soccer is today. Now the World Series comes and goes, while every bar and restaurant has a Super Bowl party, and the supermarkets are loaded with Super Bowl displays of beer and snacks. This book doesn't describe the sport ...

a master handicapper explains his craft
Dan Gordon's updated NFL handicapping book is the kind of book one doesn't so much read as study. Handicapping the NFL over a period of many years is hard work, serious work, and Gordon takes it very seriously. Properly done, it ends up amounting to a part-time job. We are not talking about making easy money betting on football. The first point, which might be obvious to bettors but bears ...

very solid, with an exception
Michael Oriard explores an area relatively uncovered in the vast flow of information about football. And that is the establishment of the NFL as a business, especially a media and entertainment enterprise instead of a simple sport played by romanticized warriors. Oriard is first-rate on the history of the game and its development from a minor sport to the top tier starting in the late 1950s ...
