Exactly What I was Looking for
I started teaching myself to play the guitar about a year ago. I have learned some basic chords and a few tunes using tab. I wanted to find a way to really get to know the fretboard and learn about how different scales are made up and how solo's are put together. This book will keep me busy for years. There is so much in this book, I love it.

A perfect gift
I purchased this item as a gift for a creative musician I know. The size is convenient to carry, the pages are professional music manuscript pages, and each page includes quotations from well known musicians talking about what inspires them. Ideal for jotting down musical ideas as they occur, or noting musical phrases from compositions heard. I was pleased that the gift was so pleasing.

Amazing
This book was absolutely amazing. A little outdated in spots, but it is the guide to freedom in notation. As a new-to-the-block composer, this books has reaffirmed the basics of traditional notation and served as a guide to advanced notation. This is a fun read and a great reference. Notation is everything to a composer, so read this book!

Staff Lines Too Heavy
The staff lines seem a bit too thick. Thick staff lines serve no purpose. They "compete" with the notes. Razor-thin lines, on the other hand, allow the notes to stand out more clearly. The quality of the paper and binding are very satisfactory. Too bad about those heavy staff lines.

Perfect
I really hate wading through reviews on Amazon. Some folks come to wax for no reason at all. This is actually my first ever review, so here goes. This book is perfect. It's a book on learning how to read music. It starts very basic so that any Joe can learn it. Once the author gets you started with the basics of notes and rhythm, you get some music theory. It's not a hardcore theory bok, but the ...

Very Satisfied
This was the best music book that I have purchased over the past 25 years as a guitar player. I was hesitant to purchase a music book online and my expectations were low. Suprisingly though, it has provided a great selection of songs sorted chronologically by classical music historical periods together with those musicians with great influence on classical guitar. It was simple enough for a ...

Excellent Resource!
Mr. Schonbrun's book is an excellent resource for any music educator, music student, musician, performer, or composer who has used Sibelius or is new to using Sibelius. His language is clear and concise and it is simple to find items in his index. The CD that accompanies the book assists the user greatly as it allows the user to learn Sibelius 5 by completing files that correspond with the items ...

A great book for all level
I've been playing guitar for a couple of years now, and am not very good. I bought this book because I wanted something more advanced than the simple beginner books, and less advanced than the real thing. This book fits the bill exactly. The songs are faithful to the originals and add a nice depth missing from the beginner books. Many of the songs are in standards tuning which is nice. While ...

Fool not to own one
After reading some of the foolish comments by some of the "reviewers", here's the honest truth. This is ONE GREAT LITTLE BOOK! It's amazing that so much can be packed in such a short package, but this one does it. Forget about the staff/stave BS. It's irrelevant. I may say quaver or semiquaver half note or whole note. Who cares? If you are this picky then you shouldn't be learning to read music ...

Great COURSE on FINALE!
I bought this book after being hired to score a complete musical for an arranger. I did not know FINALE at all. I decided on this book because it was from Berklee Press.... I am a Berklee grad. Excellent book!
I own a number of these Hal Leonard fingerpicking books, and this is one of my favorites. While I'm not a big fan of many of these songs (Yesterday is the exception) they are arranged beautifully. As the other reviewers have noted this book falls into the advanced beginner-intermediate skill level, but vary from song to song, so even if you are new there is something you can play. The nice ...

Do Re Mi
Thoughful and charming presentation of how musical notation came to be created. The choice of subject does credit to the author's questioning mind in that she decided to explore something that's been around for centuries and that we usually take for granted. It is important to let children know that some things that always seem to have been in existence were actually begun by someone who saw ...
