Angelina Jolie's: Notes from My Travels55 reviews
Angelina Jolie

Pocket, 2003

Everyone interested in humanitarian work should read this!
This was a great book, i am soo glad i bought it. It really made things real and showed you the reality of what goes on in the world outside the bubble of your own perspective and own country. I would recommend this for everyone, even if your not an angelina fan because everyone should know about these living conditions that are how a large portion of the world are subjected too and it really ...

Creative Bead Weaving: A Contemporary Guide To Classic Off-Loom Stitches31 reviews
Carol Wells

Lark Books, 1998

The best book on beadweaving on the market!
I have a bunch of beadweaving books, but THIS is the one I refer to when I forget a stitch or need some technical help with increasing or decreasing. Nice projects and instructions are written clearly. If you buy only one book on beadweaving, it should be this one!

The Pilgrim's Progress (Cliffs Notes)33 reviews
John Bunyan

Cliffs Notes, 1968

A Treasure!!
Every christian household should have this volume to read and share with the famiy. It never fails to bring me to tears when pilgrim falls before the cross and looses the burden of sin. It is a must have for every christian library and the additional insights from Bunyan are a added blessing!! I cannot say enough good things .....

The Imitation of Christ (Shepherd's Notes Christian Classics 2)70 reviews
a Kempis Thomas

Broadman & Holman Pub, 1999

Miracle
This is not a review of the book per se (just got it, have not read it yet), but thought I needed to share this. Book arrived with another book (a textbook) in the usual Amazon box, each laying side by side. It was left out in the rain for most of the day by the local carrier until I brought it inside. The entire box was soaked and ruined, tape fallen off and box literally gaping open, all of ...

Surgical Recall43 reviews

Williams & Wilkins, 1998

Excellent quick review
This book is in short, Q&A style, and is excellent for quick review, especially when you have 10 minutes before a case starts. During surgeries, I got asked a lot of questions straight out of the book. A more thorough book is needed for in-depth info, but this book is great to carry around with you and read in those rare spare minutes.

Math Review For Standardized Tests (Cliffs Test Prep)36 reviews
Jerry, Ph.D. Bobrow

Cliffs Notes, 1985

An absolute must if you are preparing for the GRE yourself
This book is the first that I have encountered that can actually TEACH me math. All of the others that have tried have just gave me a headache. It starts with the most basic concepts and works its way into the more complex. If you are preparing for the GRE or SAT yourself, this book is worth way more than what you'll pay for it on Amazon. Without it, I would have been completely, utterly, ...

Spark Notes The Little Prince191 reviews
Antoine De Saint-Exupery, SparkNotes Editors

SparkNotes, 2002

Little Prince speaks to the child in me
I was an adult when i read this book, and i really appreciated the lessons in life that Saint-Exupery shares through the Little Prince. A great book, full of beautiful illustrations, easy to read, while fun and sad at the same time. I personally read it as if Exupery is sharing with us the conversations he has with his own inner child, in the image of the Little Prince. That is why the ...

Miss Fannie's Hat34 reviews
Jan Karon, Allen Stringfellow

Cliffs Notes, 1995

AN AUSTRALIAN REVIEW
My 81 year old mother is an avid fan of all Jan Karon's novels including the Mitford Cookbook & Patches of Godlight (all purchased from Amazon). I purchased "Miss Fannie's Hat" from Amazon to give her even though it is really a children's book. The message the book contains is ageless and worth a read, no matter how young or old you are! It is a beautifully illustrated book and one we intend ...

The Five Books of Moses : Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy : A New Translation With ...31 reviews

Schocken Books, 1995

Excellent
I used to say that it was pointless to try to study the Bible without Hebrew - that it was impossible to "feel" the text, to get the humor, the irony, the poetry. Not anymore. This is a must for any student of the Bible, as it captures the liveliness and strangeness of the original and expose it as the allusive, alliterative, jabberwocky text that it is. Hebrew is best, but this is, finally, ...

Désirée63 reviews
Annemarie Selinko

Phoenix, 2002

A completely charming Desiree's life story, from spurned fiance of Napoleon to Queen of two countries
I'm a certified anglophile, when it comes to history. This is probably because I am one-half Angelo Celtic and so the history I read about when I read about England, Scotland and Ireland, is in some sense my own. It is a basic human urge to understand where we come from after all. Anyway, this is my way of saying I don't "get" France. I can't speak French (and so in books when there's some French ...

Creating with Concrete: Yard Art, Sculpture and Garden Projects23 reviews
Sherri Warner Hunter

Lark Books, 2001

Exciting!
As soon as this book came, I had to go through it cover to cover. I love the projects, and the way everything is explained step by step. You are also given advice on using different mixes and techniques. I feel that the author not only teaches you how to do the projects in her book, but gives you the knowledge, skills, and encouragement to go beyond that. And that is exciting!

The Billy Joel Keyboard Book: Note-for-Note Keyboard Transcriptions24 reviews
Billy Joel

Hal Leonard Corporation, 1993

A Fanatic's Must-Have
The best Billy Joel piano book out there for the money. After using many less accurate and sometimes less user-friendly books, I have to say this is far and away the best available. All the riffs are included, accurate, and easy to read. If you are a fan and a pianist, this should be the first place you put your money!

The Art Spirit: Notes, Articles, Fragments of Letters and Talks to Students, Bearing on the Concept and ...21 reviews
Robert Henri

Westview Press, 1984

An Art Spirit for Everyone
The Art Spirit. Now there's a bold title. The implication is not only that there is such a specifically identifiable thing as an "art spirit", but also that the author, painter, and teacher, Robert Henri knows these specifics; a bold implication indeed. The difficulty (wherein lies the boldness) whenever one attaches the word spirit -or spiritual- to anything, there are, of course, as many ...

Letters to Sam: A Grandfather's Lessons on Love, Loss, and the Gifts of Life21 reviews
Daniel Gottlieb

Sterling, 2008

A Gift To Savour and Share
These inspiring letters about love, loss and the gifts of life are as jewels in the mud. They shine brightly with a humble, honest and profound wisdom that nurtures light within and beyond darkness. A compelling read you will want to share with friends and family.

Mensa Guide to Casino Gambling: Winning Ways (Mensa)24 reviews
Andrew Brisman

Sterling, 2004

Excellent book goes straight to the point
The book has 16 chapters, 2 of which are introductory, and 13 are dedicated to the games themselves. If you've ever visited a casino, you know how easy it is to get overwhelmed by flashing lights and sounds of coins falling everywhere, and then perhaps make an errant decision about playing a slot game or joining a roulette table. This book does a good job on teaching the fundamentals and rules ...

Asterix the Gaul (Asterix)23 reviews
Rene Goscinny

Orion, 2004

Gauls Getafix
Asterix lives in the Gaulish part of the Roman Empire. Doesn't he? Not quite, his village resists the Romans thanks to a magic potion. The Romans want some of this potion for themselves... "Asterix the Gaul" was the first Asterix comic, published in 1961. Rene Goscinny made the words and Albert Udzero did the pictures. It's a pretty good way to start the series though the sequel "Asterix and ...

The Complete Metalsmith: An Illustrated Handbook26 reviews
Tim McCreight

Sterling, 1991

Complete Metalsmith
Complete Metalsmith, Student Edition is an excellent resource. As someone completely new to metalsmithing I was hearing terms that I could not figure out and this book has them all. It is well written and seems very complete. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a reference book meant for the years. The construction is well thought out with a firm but flexible cover and wire ...

Because of Romek: A Holocaust survivor's memoir : photographs, references, and notes30 reviews
David Faber

Granite Hills Press, 1997

One of the greatest books
This has been one of the few excellent books i have ever read. It is actually real, it really happened, so it makes you feel as if this was happining before your eyes. It was sad, and well written. i actually heard David Faber, the author of this book, speak. He was an incredibly powerful speaker, and his book places you in his position, just as his speech does.
