A fresh look at wavelets
The Book by Bratteli and Jorgensen is a superb book on wavelet's theory. It is very well written and has new and a fresh point of view on the subject. Although there are several good books on wavelets, the book by Bratteli and Jorgensen covers an important niche that has not been covered before. In particular 1- The book covers the theory of wavelets from the point of view of operators and ...

A SPLENDID WORK LITERATURE
Ola Rotimi's the Gods are not the blame, is one of those splendid works of literature that though Shakespearan in its inclination, still rears its head to a genuine and wholesome stance. African writers like Rotimi and Soyinka have a way of conjuring a sense of nostalgia of African society, that intrudes to the innermost ends of our hidden being, and make us nod in reflective acknowledge of the ...

A visit to the Ozarks
Reading this book is like visiting my Aunt Ola in the Ozarks! It's all there...the sounds, the sights, the smells, the adventurous spirit. From the overnight trip up into the mountains, to the rusty milkcan by the cabin door, to the scent of my aunt's perfume and facial powder---this brief novel registers authentic. But its greatest strength is the way it conveys her joy of life, ...

This really is a great story!
We always read or hear about the struggles of Blacks in the south. And now witht the effects of just how strong "racism" still exists in America, I found this book to be on point about how racism is not just a race problem its a personal one that crosses over from inter-racial prejudice. It's my hope Ms. Vay continues to write such stirring stories about the myths of miscegenation in the south.

My favourite when I was a kid!
I've still got my torn, and worn, and partly coloured by my kids, norwegian edition of "Ola". My kids are the second generation lovers of this book. The drawings are friendly and nice, the story is nice, and today it represents a Norway partly gone. That's why it's so valuable as a book to me, I 've used it to show my kids and my pupils what our country was like when I was a girl. Would love ...

Loaded with simple solutions to everyday problems.
I found this was an easy-to-read, easy-to-put-into-practice book. The information was to the point and could be utilized almost immediately. It makes an excellent reference book to have around the house for problem solving. I used the suggestions that were outlined for two hassles I was having. One with a car dealer and the other with a dry cleaning establishment. Both turned out well for me.

A rare view into a great French poet's oevre
Though highly respected by the International Avant Garde, Rene Char's poetry is not as widely available in English translation as it should be. Part of this is probably due to a reputation for obscurity or difficulty. But, as this volume shows this, has been exagerated. There are many poems of amazing simplicity - not to mention beauty. As this selection contains poems from all periods of Char's ...

Great, practical book!
Mommy CEO covers a wide variety of parenting topics -- whining, biting, homework, temper tantrums, over-scheduled kids, potty training and much more. It's a great overview of parenting tips and an easy read. The book would be a great gift for any new -- or not so new -- parent.

Terrific Book Answers the Question: Why Does She Stay?
This book clearly answers the question everyone always wants to know: why does she stay? It gives numerous examples of the many reasons women stay, and the factors in their lives that effect that choice. It is the best of any that I've read (20-30) which effectively illuminates their reasons, without demeaning or glorifying them. It is must reading for anyone involved in domestic violence, ...

Great Overview of Spanish History
I got this book to A. practice my Spanish and B. learn a bit about Spanish history, and I definitely got both (and then some) with this text. It's definitely meant for students - at the end of sections there are comprehension and discussion questions and a list of sources to check out. I'd say it's for the intermediate/advanced student, someone who has studied Spanish for at least a few years. ...

Social commentary in poor immigrant farmhomes
Peter Rosendahl captured the feelings of struggles and efforts by first generation immigrants eeking out a living on farms in Minnesota. His cartoons which were printed in 3 consecutive Norwegian language newpapers of more than 500 comic strips is in fact the longest continuously run comic strip in this country. Rosendahl ended his life by his own hand shortly before the US got involved in ...

Insanity in a Welsh village
Well rounded characters. Very readable One moonlit night is a first person narrative which follows a man through a north Wales village on a moonlit night having been away for many years. On passing through different memories come to his mind. So far so conventional. The man is insane, he speaks with the voice of a child. Stuck in a never never land inside his head he finds it difficult to tell ...

My Surf Tricks
Super fun book for the future or young surfer! Great illustrations show several surfing moves along with the surf jaragon for it. Each term is written into a single sentence positioned to form an image of the action (ie. for a tube, the words for a tight c-shape). The little surfers shown pulling off these moves are both boys and girls as well as multi-racial! Fun stuff & endorsed by SurfRider ...
