Your Home A Living Canvas: Create Stunning Faux Finishes & Murals with Paint31 reviews
Curtis L Heuser

North Light Books, 2007

Beautiful book and home
This is a delilghtful and beautiful book for artists or those of us who appreciate others' talent. Curtis has created a labor of love first in his home and then in his book. I was fortunate enough to tour the finished product and it is truly gorgeous. I'm able to relive the experience by revisiting his book from time to time. This book is a winner on all counts.

Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History61 reviews
Eric H. Borneman

TFH Publications, 2001

Excellent resource!
This is the best all around resource on corals. I managed an aquatics department for a petstore for a year, and this book was the one I recommended for new reefkeepers. It is organized taxanomic (by species) and has great info on coral needs and propagation. This is a must have for any saltwater library, and I return to it often.

Aran Knitting21 reviews
Alice Starmore

Interweave Press, 1997

Aran Knitting
This is a beautiful book. It's "COFFEE TABLE" beautiful. The history of Aran knitting, and the photographt are gorgeous. The sweaters that Alice Starmore designed are wonderful. The mens sweaters are timeless, but the women's sweaters are a bit dated. This could be easily remidied by adjusting the fit of the sweater while using the stitches that are part of the original design. Alice ...

Creating with Concrete: Yard Art, Sculpture and Garden Projects23 reviews
Sherri Warner Hunter

Lark Books, 2001

Exciting!
As soon as this book came, I had to go through it cover to cover. I love the projects, and the way everything is explained step by step. You are also given advice on using different mixes and techniques. I feel that the author not only teaches you how to do the projects in her book, but gives you the knowledge, skills, and encouragement to go beyond that. And that is exciting!

Crafty Chica's Art De La Soul: Glittery Ideas to Liven Up Your Life40 reviews
Kathy Cano Murillo

Topeka Bindery, 2006

Glitter up your life & vision board
This is one of the books that I'm recommending as a resource to my bestselling book The Vision Board: The Secret to an Extraordinary Lifebecause it is so much fun to look at and it is so inspiring for anyone creating a Vision Board. Kathy Cano Murillo and I've talked before about the power of "inspirational crafts" this is certainly a great example of how to liven up your life and add a sense of ...

Creative Concrete Ornaments for the Garden: Making Pots, Planters, Birdbaths, Sculpture & More18 reviews
Sherri Warner Hunter

Lark Books, 2005

Who knew concrete could be fun!
I was looking for a book to teach me how to make hypertufa pots for the garden. This book not only does that, but it has all sorts of projects made out of concrete. It contains several different concrete "recipes" for making these projects. There are about 25 projects in the book, with complete step-by-step instructions. There are lots of full-color pictures, which I think is essential for a ...

Create the Space You Deserve: An Artistic Journey to Expressing Yourself Through Your Home17 reviews
Jill Butler

Skirt!, 2008

Create the Space You Deserve
Although we may not always realize it, our living space says a lot about who we are. Who are you? Are you knee deep in clutter and just can't let go of the past? Or does your house look great but lacks any sort of functional value? Does your home lack character because you are afraid to let your true self shine through? Create the Space You Deserve is more than a design guide. In fact, it ...

The Flower Ornament Scripture17 reviews
Thomas Cleary

Shambhala, 1986

Importance of Flower Ornament Sutra & this edition
The Flower Ornament Sutra (FOS) is often overlooked because it is not as available (now out of print probably as a result of not being widely used by the laity), but it is a superb Sutra a comprehensive (if any single text can be called truly comprehensive)expression of Buddhist (particularly Mahayanist)Vision. I say "vision" rather than "thought" or "philosophy" because FOS is first and foremost ...

Art Nouveau Cross Stitch15 reviews
Barbara Hammet

David & Charles, 1999

Excellent book of Art Nouveau patterns!
This is a fabulous book, very representational of Art Nouveau style (don't look for Frank Lloyd Wright here, his work is considered its own style). Many projects from a variety of artists. Check out the table of contents page link in the book description to get a better idea of the types of projects and artists. Clear diagrams with both color and symbols make projects a joy to work on - I'm ...

Celtic Quilts: A New Look for Ancient Designs (That Patchwork Place)11 reviews
Beth Ann Williams

Martingale and Company, 2000

Stunning!
This quilt book is so stunning with all the examples. Not only that, but being a beginner, this books spells things out pretty well. I did go get the other book she recommends as well. It's called Hand Applique. But that's if you want to know how to do Hand Apllique, and I wouldn't say that it deserves 5 stars.

Garden Style (Better Homes and Gardens) (Better Homes and Gardens)12 reviews

Meredith Books, 1999

A soothing, restoring sojourn in a fantasy land
I have a single favorite place for soul restoring. It's a local plant nursery, but this one is more than that. The owners frequently change and update and relocate plants, garden items, things that hang on walls, in trees, nestle against fences, dangle from ceilings, embrace the earth, cozy in planters with fellow plants and dazzlingly different plants. The place has so many cubbyholes. After I ...

The Big Book of Decorative Painting: How to Paint If You Don't Know How and How to Improve If You Do15 reviews
Jackie Shaw

Watson-Guptill, 1994

I've seen plenty and this is the best
Jackie Shaw does an excellent job of showcasing all that is possible in decorative painting. Her examples of stroke work apply across the board for any kind of painting. But, what makes this book work is the way she breaks down each stroke into its individual parts to show how to form them properly. Along the way she imparts words of encouragment and motivation to get you going! She also gives ...

Living on the Earth11 reviews
Alicia Bay Laurel

Gibbs Smith, Publisher, 2003

Fun Guide to Living on the Earth
After waking very early this very morning, I started to read Living on the Earth and was halfway through by breakfast. While I had considered a hand-lettered book to be more difficult to read, I could not have been more wrong. The hand lettering brought a sense of comfort and the contents reminded me of my childhood in Africa. If you lived in a rural area during the 60s and 70s, many of the ...

Donna Dewberry's Complete Book of One-Stroke Painting12 reviews
Donna S. Dewberry

North Light Books, 1998

I can finally paint!
I always wanted to be an artist, and with Donna's easy-to-follow techniques, I can now paint! Before, I drew rotten stick figures, but Donna had me painting like a pro in nothing flat! I have given items away as gifts, and have had requests for items! I've been concentrating on clay flower pots, but I now feel ready to branch out to bigger and better things! Thanks Donna!
