Great fun, great learning, easy to read and work with.
At first I was pretty skeptical about using a book like this to help me along in my growth as a writer, but after the first two parts I have to say it's been pretty good. The samples are very well handled and the intent is solidly established by the authors. Definitely worth buying and keeping at your side if you should need a writing nudge!

Novice Painter
My instructor talked about this book in class and said it was a very helpful book to have. Being a novice, I took her advice and ordered one. It has been very helpful, with clear explanations concering color mixing and opaque and translucent color techniques. I can only recommend this book as a beginning oil painter, but have gotten great tips and my use of color combinations have greatly ...

I didn't want to put it down!
Having enjoyed Gruber's "Book of Air and Shadows", I was looking forward to "The Forgery of Venus" and I was not disappointed. The story grabbed me from the very beginning and didn't have a slow spot all the way through. The book has an unusual perspective, the first person narration is presented as a recording made by artist Chaz Wilmot, Jr. for a friend and is a recounting of his ...

Twombly's season
This is the catalogue for the current Tate exhibition that focuses on Twombly's various series that have marked his long career (the Ferragosto paintings from 1961, the Blackboard paintings from the late 1960's, the Bolsena paintings from 1969, the later Four Seasons cycles, etc). Without being a retrospective, this book sheds a new light on a painter that has gained in stature over the years. It ...

Couldn't Put this book down
The style of this novel is very unique and hooks you from the start. I couldn't put it down. The four women who loved this (not-so) great man are so sensitively crafted by the author that you both, at once, admire them and question their devotion to such a hollow person as Oscar. The book also asks some important questions, such as what constitutes "great" art, who gets to decide, what role do ...

Reads like a mystery
I like mysteries, intrigue, politics, and history. I picked up The Man Who Made Vermeers because it was one of the best sellers in my local bookstore. One of the salespeople told me that customers who read crime fiction had been buying it, and I can really see why. The book presents an excellent understanding of Han van Meegeren, the Dutch artist who sold a fake Vermeer to Hermann Goering during ...

Much more than just a still-life
This is the catalogue for the current Morandi exhibition at the Met in NYC. It basically follows a strict chronology after two introductory essays, one attempting a reassessment of the artist's oeuvre in the light of the many studies that have been carried out in recent years and of his influence on contemporary art (no longer limited to abstraction)and the other dwelling on the visual sources ...

5 minutes in and already I am painting with more PIZZAZZ!
This book is truly infectious - in fact I accidentally purchased 2 and have already got a buyer for the other - all the way downunder in New Zealand! I say "infectious" because of the effect it is having on me - I want to try new things - buy new products - although here in NZ I have not yet sourced a supplier of Golden! Will find a way though. Nancy - this is a winner - and thank you ...

Pre-review.
Why so inexpensive when the Rizolli book is $500 - $1000!!! Size. This book is 6 3/4 by 8 1/4. I appreciate anything I can get on the artist, but the person who put this book together should be shot. Metaphorically.
Blue Dog Speaks

When Cajun artist George Rodrigue began his series of Blue Dog paintings in 1984, he had no idea that they would consume the greater part of his life for over two decades, and that the mysterious Blue Dog?inspired by his studio dog?turned-model, Tiffany, and the Cajun loup-ga rou folk legend?would become a wildly popular international icon as well. Blue Dog Speaks is the first book to prominently emphasize Rodrigue?s painting titles, one of ...

A Great Teacher!
If you are serious about using Painter X, by all means buy this book. Don`s easy way of teaching makes this book very useful and informative. However, this book is not for beginners. You must have some knowledge of the software in order to make the most out of this book. I`d give it ten stars if I could!!

Gogh for it!
I wanted something to spark my 6YO son's interest in art. This book sure did. He asked me to read it to him a 2nd time right on the spot. He also spotted a Van Gogh print that I brought home. This is a fine series. I also got the Degas which wasn't quite as interesting but he still liked it. I just ordered Picasso and a few others. Get the Van Gogh and if your child loves it, try some of the ...

Excellent reference book for an unseasoned artist
I started painting with oils only a few months ago and have aquired several books regardihg oil painting in an effort to examine several points of view on the subject. This book, while it may not be the most helpful to me at this stage in my development, it is simply an excellent source of information for old and new artists alike. Geisel was truly an artist, as can be seen in this collection
Ted Geisel, more widely known as Dr. Seuss, was a consummate writer and illustrator. His children's books have sold millions of copies; it is a near certainty that few children grow up in the United States without being exposed to Seuss books. This book contains some of Seuss's art that has not had a great deal of exposure. Most are paintings, although there are some works of three-dimensional ...
