Killer Pancake (Goldy Culinary Mysteries, Book 5)25 reviews
Diane Mott Davidson

Crimeline, 1996

You know you want to
Diane Mott Davidson is an old standby for me. Whenever I'm in a bookstore, I can look for her titles on the shelf and all is right with the universe. This is a series of mysteries with the same character, Goldy the caterer. Though she isn't a detective, her job involves her in a lot of situations other 9-to-5ers might not run into, and that's the hook of the book as it were. Killer Pancake is ...

The Stories of Breece D'J Pancake15 reviews
Breece D'J Pancake, John Casey, ...

Back Bay Books, 2002

Reality in Fiction
The skillful rendering of characters rather than caricatures distinguishes Breece D'J Pancake's one and only book from many other works of contemporary fiction. The stories are set primarily in the hills, small towns, and hollows of West Virginia. The stories illustrate the hardscrabble lives and emotional struggles of characters on the periphery of many things: society (in "A Room Forever"), ...

Marsupial Sue Presents "The Runaway Pancake": Book and CD17 reviews
John Lithgow

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2005

Great for Storytime
I just read this book during storytime at my local mall. Despite the noise and the playground surrounding them, my kids sat still and listened to the tale from beginning to end! They loved the pictures and the song. Some of them even sang along after awhile. Once the story was over parents and children gave me a hand, so thank you John for a book that both adults and children can enjoy! Not ...

If You Give a Pig a Pancake (If You Give...)74 reviews
Laura Numeroff

Laura Geringer, 1998

Dr. Seuss's Successor
If you could name one factor that helped me to fall in love with teaching once again, it would probably come from reading 'If You Give a Pig a Pancake' to a preschooler. While there were other factors for sure, this is not a hyperbole, for I know of no other top reason to fall in love with teaching better than with Laura Numeroff and her whimsical set of cyclical stories. My only regret is that ...

Mama Panya's Pancakes6 reviews
Mary Chamberlin, Rich Chamberlin

Barefoot Books, 2006

Adorable story!
I found this book when I was searching for a story from Kenya. I was putting together a unit on Kenya for third graders and came across this book and fell in love with it. The mother and son have a sweet relationship and the message of sharing and community come through in the end. Wonderful illustrations and several reference pages at the end of the story. Mama Panya's recipe for pancakes ...

Pancakes for Breakfast15 reviews
Tomie dePaola

Voyager Books, 1978

Picture book without words
I teach four year olds and they love books. A good picture book speaks to them and this wonderful book by Tomie dePaola is absolutely the best. Up until recently, the only picture book without words of which I was aware, was THE SNOWMAN. My students love sitting in the "Storyteller's Chair" and reading to the class. I discovered another book of this type and it's a Caldecott Honor Book - THE ...

Strange as This Weather Has Been: A Novel16 reviews
Ann Pancake

Counterpoint Press, 2007

A story of the true cost of coal
This novel relays in story form lives lived in the hollars below a form of coal "mining" called by many Mountain Top Removal. What is happening in these communities is real. The cost on lives, land, and streams is high. Pancake's Strange as This Weather Has Been: A Novel helps bring this home for all of us.

Pancakes, Pancakes! (Stories to Go!)20 reviews

Aladdin, 2005

Great book for young people
While volunteering for a reading program, I ran across this book. I read it to some 4 and 5 year olds. The students loved the colorful pictures and asked me to read this book over and over. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a child in their life.

Good book. This is one of the older stories and drawings, not one of the newer stories and drawings.

Jane Stacey

Great Gift
I purchased this book as a gift along with a wafflemaker. I think it's the perfect recipe book for a gift, since it has great pictures, creative & different recipes and is small in size.

The best blender book ever!!!
I just bought this book recently and the recipes are easy to make and DELICIOUS! It has the best frappe's and smoothies recipes i've ever tasted. It also has stuff to cook on the morning like waffles, pancakes, french toast, heavy shakes and it also have flavorful soups, dips and drink(with alcohol) etc etc. The best thing is that the ingredients used are common and you can find them anywhere.

Pancakes for Findus (Findus and Pettson)1 review
Sven Nordqvist

Hawthorn Press, 2008

Excellent book not only for kids!
I love all the Findus books, but this is one of the best. The illustrations are perfect. For adults it looks a bit confusing in the beginning, because Findus shows up five times in the same picture, but the Kids love it.

Crepes, Waffles, And Pancakes!: Over 100 Recipes for Hearty Meals, Light Snacks, And Delicious Desserts4 reviews
Kathryn Hawkins

Good Books, 2006

Excellent
I saw a pre-release for this book sometime ago, and quickly put in an advance order for it with Amazon. The thought of a whole book given to pancakes and waffles seemed like a lot of fun to me. Honestly, when it came and I opened up the box, I was a little disappointed. I was expecting a hardback with good binding. Instead, this was a paperback with a white comb binding. However, my ...

Frozen Pancakes and Fake Lashes: One imperfect woman's quest for peace, balance ... and maternal mojo33 reviews
G. Pearl Mak

BookSurge Publishing, 2008

Great travel book
Short chapters and fast moving with a semi-predictable storyline -- all these factors make this book perfect for a woman's travel book. The transition from career woman to mom is one many of us can sympathize with and the various surprising aspects of newborn care, for a first time mother, are humorously explored. If you are a career woman who hasn't yet had that first baby, then this book ...

The Pancake Handbook: Specialties from Bette's Oceanview Diner2 reviews
Stephen Siegelman, Bette Kroening, ...

Ten Speed Press, 2003

Fluffy Yum!!!
This book is a must have for any pancake lover. I was first introduced to The Pancake Handbook through reading a two page spread of excerpts in the LA Times. I tried 3 of the 5 recipes before I bought the book. Every recipe I've tested so far is delicious and superb!!!

The Totally Pancakes & Waffles Cookbook (Totally Cookbooks)7 reviews
Helene Siegel

Celestial Arts, 1996

Delicious pancakes and waffles
There's nothing I enjoy more after a hard morning workout in the mountains or the gym for breakfast than a huge stack of pancakes or waffles. I usually opt for whole wheat flour over sourdough and I always add some sliced fruit like bananas or berries with some walnuts or other nuts. Top it off with a little butter and syrup and prepare for a heavenly meal. Mmmmm. Many good recipes in this book.

Pancakes For Supper8 reviews
Anne Isaacs

Scholastic Press, 2006

A Misunderstanding
I believe the poor review of one reviewer was based on a misunderstanding of the story. It's a tall tale that relies on hyperbole for its humor and charm. Very young children won't get it, and may be frightened by the scary animals. It takes just a bit of the sophistication, say, of a fifth grader and above, to appreciate a tall tale.

Hey, Pancakes!8 reviews
Tamson Weston

Silver Whistle, 2003

Wonderful Granchild Entertainment
I bought this book as part of my weekend entertainment plan for my 6 year old grandson. The stay was a success! I think, in great part, due to our sunday morning "Pancake Party". We read Hey Pancakes! the night before, I had pre-purchased the ingredients with, of course, real maple syrup and then we reviewed the recipe in the back of the book and discussed what and why of each ingredient and ...
