Memorable
Anne Garber's book, Voices, is phenominal! The pages kept turning. The characters seemed so real. I loved John, disliked Allen and was annoyed with Anthony. The women; I admired Carol's devotion to her children and have known women like Linda and Debbie. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Fantastic Read!
Many people are attracted to this book because of the celebrity factor. I was drawn to this book to read about the inner struggles of a young woman trying to to identify who she was between her conservative upbringing and the allure of Hollywood. Anyone who has walked the road of trying to figure themselves out can identify with the author. I will admit learning about the tactics tabloid ...

This text has become the guide and standard that other authors are using in updating their books on the same subject! Crannell's analysis and exercises for accent reduction have been especially helpful to me in my work with international clients. The additional material on voice and presentation is of great value for everyone looking to improve their oral skills. The format of the book ...

HIGHLY Recommmended for any family with children learning to SPELL!!!
This book far exceeded my expectations! It unravels the mystery of the so-called unexplainably strange ways of spelling so many of our English words. Clear & concise format. EXCELLENT for young children learning to read & spell...it answers any questions you might have about the rules of the way letters are put together in words & pronounced. A must have for any home library...

Excellent for newborns!
This CD is wonderful! I find a lot of products for children 2 and older but this product is geared specifically towards children ages 2 and younger who are learning another language. My degree is in French, so I understand the CD, and I think that the things that it teaches are excellent! It exposes children to sounds specific to french, like the double l which is pronounced y, the ...

Good Starting Point
I can't remember how I came upon this book or even how I got interested in the obscure realm of Classical figures of speech. Anyway, Quinn delivers a brief but effective introduction to this overlooked corner of the art of writing, and shows that much of basic Western literature, i.e. Shakespeare and the Bible, was written with generous use of the "formulas" of Classical figures of speech. ...

Creative! Original!
This is one of the most creative books I've seen in a long time. The illustrations are also warm and funny. The simple single alphabet words are hysterical and orginal. My personal favorites are the mad scientist ant who is brilliANT, the punk rocker who is a deviANT and the huddled family of immigrANTs. Well done and kudos to the author.

A thorough, easy, and useful way to teach phonics!
I have used this program with my first grade Title One children. Absolutely amazing but before you buy
I've been tutoring my dyslexic daughter (age 12) for about a year using this system and she has improved tremendously. She even made honor role this year. You need to be aware of several things: 1) The system has 10 Levels; each level builds on the last one. (I think Susan Barton, the system's developer, estimates that each level takes 3-4 months with regular tutoring, but you can set your ...

The alpha and omega in voice
This is everything anybody (actors, speakers and liars) will ever need to know about discovering, developing and using with confidence the voice as a tool to communicate. Westerners especially, I believe, have trained and maimed their voices to suit ideals (The average woman speaks about 6 tones higher than her natural voice prescribes). This book, a trusted training manual in many theatre ...

Fun for the entire family
Kline has a wonderful sense of humour that can be appreciated by any age group. He really challenges kids (and adults) to look at language in a different way - the fun way! The book reads like a rollercoaster ride...or maybe a better analogy would pinball machine: it bounces off topics and tangents in a delightfully free-wheeling manner. Not for ADD kids, this book is meant for children who are ...

In this book, Beck outlines procedures for essential beginning reading activities such as letter-sound correspondences, blending, and word building. Nice & Easy
I purchased "Get Ready for the Code" Books A-C for my 4.5 yo after our attempt with "Phonic Pathways." I started with "Phonic Pathways" because it was recommended in "WTM" and because she already knew most of the letter sounds. She totally hated it, and for me it was a chore and laborious. I went looking for something different and found "Get Ready for the Code." She absolutely LOVES the ...
