the best straightforward approach to learning it
Kelby is the best. If you want all the mind-numbing explanation of what makes something work in PS, go elsewhere. But if you just want a guy to walk you step by step through how to get results fast without a lot of hassle, buy everything you can by Kelby.

Photoshop Elements 6 is for BOTH Mac and PC
Before ordering this book I contacted the publisher to see if it was applicable to the just released version of Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac, as all of the previous books for earlier versions of Elements were PC only. I was informed that sadly it was only for PC's. Well I ignored the publishers advice and purchased it anyway. And much to my surprise it is for Mac & PC (the first book ...

Nobody does this kind of book better
At its most simplistic level, Photoshop Elements offers useful and intuitive tools to make almost any photo live up to its best potential. But there's so very much more to use in Elements that without a guide you really can't begin to appreciate -- or master -- its powerful tools. That's where Barbara Brundage comes in. She has pretty much perfected the art of laying out how best to approach ...

Deinite company book for LR
LR is a very powerful editing program for photographers but not the most intuitive program, however. I tried the beta version initially but decided to give another try of 1.3.1. This book really helps to bring the best out of LR. Even though I have PS CS3, I am using LR almost exclusively now because this book teaches me how to organize photos, setup libraries, export photos at various ...

The very best programming/instructional book I've ever read
I have read many books on programming. While I have gleaned some value from just about every book, the page-count-to-learning ratio hasn't been great. And on a few occasions, I hit a roadblock where I simply wasn't getting what author was telling me I should be completely proficient with at that moment...anyone else experience that?? Makes me feel like a coloring-by-the-numbers code monkey. I've ...

Well worth the cost
This book is well worth the price. In fact, the brief mention of getting the camera RAW converter plug-in from Adobe and instructions on how to use it was worth the price of the book. Not only that, but the author provides her email address in the front of the book, and will actually answer any questions you have concerning anything you don't understand. I find this fact amazing. I cannot ...

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book
Step by Step book. You must have Adobe CS3 for better results. If you're using an older version software it might not help that much; there are different new features with CS3. So you can't follow it "step by step" with and older version of photoshop. The book itself is great. I'm always prefer the the books from the software manufacter.

Can't believe the results I am getting!!!
This book is different than any other "how-to" book I have ever seen. You download lesson pictures off Scott's website and you do what he does with each picture. It is like you are sitting in the same room. You follow his plain English directions-with pictures--and you do the exact things he is doing in the book and you end up with amazing pictures...I never knew learning Photoshop could be ...

Great Book on Skin
I haven't really read all the chapters yet but this book is very professional in terms of the processes they use to enhance images. Everything from different kinds of lighting to the steps through photoshop to printing. With that said, this is not a beginner book. Prior photoshop experience is needed or else one will easily get lost.

Katrin walks on water!!!! She is at the top in her field!
I have all Katrins' books as well as her DVD's and am constantly impressed with the level of detail in her books, her presentation skills and her ability to convey the concepts in an easy to understand manner. I can readily follow Katrin's processes and I can apply her ideas to my own photographs. She makes learning Photoshop and workflow enjoyable. I have repeatedly recommended her books to ...

Exactly what I was looking for
Step-by-step, visual ties between text and screen illustrations, no long paragraphs or sentences with several embedded steps. East to return to the book later to refresh understanding of a particular operation. This is the way all manuals should be written.

This is an excellent book for anyone who owns the software package. The format is easy to understand and is loaded with color photographs that correspond to the lessons. The enclosed DVD contains the lesson plans that need to be downloaded into your computer. The book was shipped to me within a few days and was purchased "new."

Solid advice on using Photoshop for RAW images
A digital camera that gives you photos in the usual JPEG format is doing some photo processing for you before you see the shot. The camera applies the camera manufacturer's algorithms to the way your photos should look. But if you want to do more than take good snapshots you should consider setting the camera to give you images without the automatic processing. That kind of image uses the ...

What a discovery!
I wanted to learn to make better B&W prints and to do so with Photoshop CS3. When I searched for available books to provide guidance I was pleased to find that Leslie Alsheimer had written one. Leslie was an assistant at a course that I had taken at the Santa Fe Workshops and her teaching skills were really outstanding so I suspected that this book would be too. I agree with other reviewers ...
