Lots of tips...
This is an extremely practical book. What I really like about it is all the photos. As a beginning quilter, I find it very useful to see the technique illustrated with a photo. With tips on all kinds of patchwork techniques, this book is an ideal second quilting book (with the first book being a more comprehensive book on the entire quilting process, like Fons and Porter's Quilter's Complete ...

Absolutely FAB!!
Unfortunately I missed out on a live workshop with Ruth and sent my best buddy in my place instead. She LOVED it!!! Even though I tried to practice her techniques in her other books, I never quite 'got it'. I guess I'm just more of a 'show me what you do' kind of person. This book changed all that and I made her sugar maple quilt quickly and easily and I'm thrilled with the outcome! Also, with ...

An Expert at Work
I borrowed this book from the library after seeing a quilt my aunt made after attending a class taught by Ruth Mcdowell. Ruth is an amazingly talented artist, and for her to even compile and explain her techniques to us...wow! I can honestly say that I am overwhelmed and more nervous than even to try and learn how to piece like she does. But the book is definitely inspiring and one I can look ...

This is definitely one to add to your collection
Sally Collins has outdone herself with this book. In our modern day society, there is an emphasis on speed - everyone rushes around trying to squeeze in as many activities and projects into each minute of every day. This sometimes has the unfortunate consequence of less attention to detail and the result is sloppiness. In this book, Sally shows the quilter how to slow down and enjoy the ...

A Fabulous Introduction into the World of Foundation Piecing
With this book you learn to easily foundation piece cats, cows, lions, monkeys, elephants, chickens, bunnies, pelicans, eagles, peacocks, butterflies, cardinals, hummingbirds, kangaroos, and soooooo much more with readily understandable instructions. The book is a great reference for other sewing projects and consists of 112 pages so it's rather thin. The book covers basic embroidery stitches ...

This book takes a lot of the guess work out of how much fabric you need for various quilting projects. It has more information than I thought it would. For once I am looking forward to finishing up my projects.

Amazing fun
I've now made two quilts from this book. Everyone who sees them is amazed at the seeming complexity and beauty of the designs and the interplay of the colors. I was always intimidated by sewing curves, but this method makes it simple and fairly foolproof. But I was most surprised by how much fun it was. I found myself literally running from the cutting table to the design wall to try out ...

Uncovering Traditional Quilts
This book is more than what it might seem at first look. Yes, it is a primer for making simple traditional-style quilts. Beginners as well as more experienced quilters will have excellent results using Joyce Jones' easy techniques, largely new to America. One happy fact is that no triangles have to be cut or pieced to create any of the many new designs in the book - hard to believe, but ...

Colorful Quilt Patterns Inspired by Stained Glass
This is a book of patterns for quilts that resemble stained glass patterns to produce distinctive, colorful quilts of both traditional and dramatic new designs. This book contains some 36 squares that are described in great detail. These squares are then to be multiplied, perhaps using different colors and patterns, to cover the surface of the quilt. Along with the patterns is a brief but ...

Excellent use of contemporary methods for traditional design
I have enjoyed working with this book. The paper foundations included are much easier to work with than if they were just printed on the book's pages. I did the Double Wedding Ring and the results were teriffic! This is paper piecing for people who are committed to doing traditional work with new methods, and it makes sense to combine the techniques. I have recommended it to my advanced students. ...

Strictly for hand sewers
This book contains pieced quilt block patterns aimed at hand sewing, although a few of the designs might work better with paper-foundation techniques. The book assumes you know how to sew the blocks, how to assemble them into a quilt, how to determine your fabric requirements, etc. If you love that kind of hand work, this book is a 5-star plus. If you don't love hand work, it's a zero.

Excellent book for serious art quilters!
If you're the kind of quilter that takes a design and looks for ways to implement it - this book is for you. Although it has a lot of design ideas and inspirations, it's main objective is to teach the reader/quilter techniques to achieve the designs we dream of. I bought it a trifle too late - when I was half way through a major quilt commision in which I needed exactly the techniques described ...

Great ideas for using gridded fusible interfacing
I just got the book last week and made my first project using the gridded fusible interfacing for traditional quilt blocks. I was able to lay out all the blocks, make sure they were in the proper position, iron them down, and sew them together without my usual get-some-in-the-wrong-order problem. (I hate ripping out seams!) Lots of great quilt projects to try...I can hardly wait to do the one ...
