Slow Love a great read
It's about the sensuality/sexuality of Polynesian cultures and how we can bring this into our own lives. James's writing is poetic and evokes vivid images of the islands and its peoples. He gives exercises to try that make it easy. My favorite line: "Simply by sensing your natural breathing you can become your own tropical island. For the waves of your breath gently kiss an inner shore--an ...

A conversation with a beloved friend
I have loved Madeleine L'Engle's fiction since my fourth grade teacher read A Wrinkle in Time to the class. Now that I'm older (gasp, almost thirty) I enjoy her non fiction even more. Reading this trilogy is like reading and discussing the book of Genesis with a friend. The author invites you into her life as she reads and reflects on the first book of the Bible. She lets you know the ...

A Real Source of Comfort and Encouragement for Girls
I purchased this book for 12 and 10 year old daughters. I thought that perhaps we could read a prayer each night as a devotion and that it would give us an opportunity to talk about issues in their lives. It has done that and more. My oldest daughter now refers to it frequently, whenever she needs a lift or a little extra encouragement. I also purchased the sequel and I rate it equally well. ...

A work of art about a work of art, based on art
This is a hard book to review on its own for me, as it is the book of one of my most favourite movies, of the same name. Peter Greenaway set out to make a movie very loosely based on the Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon, a court lady of the Heian period of Japan. This book contains the script of the movie, along with pictures. But it is more than a movie script, it stands alone as a work of art. It ...

Moyer's two books are the best available on silk painting
This is Moyer's second book. You need to understand her first book well before getting this one. But then DEFINITELY get it. Several other silk painting authors have followed a good first book with terrible 2nd and 3rd ones. That is certainly not true of Moyer. This book is every bit as excellent as her wonderful first book.

Great Vamp book!!!
I can't believe I'm the first to review this book on Amazon....Anyway, I loooooved it. There was just enough vamp lore, romance and action going on. Very emotional read too, couldn't finish it until early morning. However, hopefully this author is going to follow up with this thread of the story (what will become of Tyr and Jade) as I saw that her next book in this series follows a different ...
