The "Prince Of Tides" of the Pacific Northwest
Just a great read. Baseball. The Vietnam War. Dysfunctional families. I ran across this at a bookstore in Hood River, Or. in the summer of '92. I had no idea this book dealt with the Pacific Northwest, just that I'd enjoyed Duncan's previous book The River Why. I started reading this book about 100 yards from the Wind River, and was astonished when the Wind was mentioned in the first ...

EMPEROR MAGE follows the story of Daine, now fifteen years old, a girl with the rare power of "wild magic" that gives her an extraordinary affinity with animals. With her wild magic, Daine can communicate with animals, see the world through their senses, and even transform herself into one, all skills that the first two books of THE IMMORTALS series have shown her develop. In this third book, ...

Awesome internode for the series
Fills in a bit of the gap between Halo 1 and 2. The story is very bold and certainly takes your imagination on a thrill ride with vivid imagery. For true Halo fans.

so exciting!!
John Marsden has done an excellent job creating a great and exciting story about friendship, war, and love. I have read all the books in this series and I was so mad when it ended. You feel so close to the charactors that when it's over, its heartbreaking. I wish I could meet every one of the charactors on the book. This series truly has changed my life. I've learned so much and it has changed ...

Gotta Read This One! C.O. from Annapolis
Are you looking for a book about curious girls and a mentally disturbed mother? Well probably not, but I know of a book that is about all of those things but is also very interesting. It is called So B. It by Sarah Weeks. The main characters are Heidi, Bernadette (or Dette), and Mama. My favorite character is Heidi because she is really curious and adventurous. I have a Text-to-Self ...

a really good book
This is such a good book. The story is engaging and fascinating. The characters were real people- complex and evolving. The book provided a glimpse of a world I will never experience except through reading. Reading it was a great pleasure.

Best Iraq War book I've ever read
This is hands down the best book I've read about the ground war in Iraq. The author pulls no punches and delivers an excellent first hand account of the horrors, struggles, and at times the humor that face the combat infantyman. I passed this book on to a friend when I finished and he too was floored by the stories it contained. I don't normally write book reviews (this is in fact my one and ...

A Superb Adventure!
I don't read much, but I read this book a few months ago and I loved it. You get pulled right into the story then are carried away by the swift adventure. It's short, but don't worry because two more books follow this one! I haven't read the other two yet, but I will. I'm 18 and I really enjoyed this book. I'm sure young adult readers would love it.

OB - Original Barbarian
I don't know why it never occurred to me to read the Conan books. I'm glad I finally did. Robert E. Howard does some great writing. Although the movies cherry picked a few of his concepts, you don't really know Conan if you haven't read these stories. I picked up the three books in this 'series' and loved em all. I say 'series' because it's really just a collection of disjointed short ...

Terrific Storytelling and Fascinating Research
The urban paranormal books keep escalating both in number of authors and the amazing, consistent high quality of the writing. This, third in the series, is best to be read in that place and not as a stand alone novel. Too many complex characters, rich relationships would be missed if you stepped out and read this novel first. Keep it in the background until you have caught up and know there is ...

One of the Best Books I Have Read in a While
This book was, quite simply, incredible. One of the aspects of the book I most appreciated was the depth of the research and the multitude of viewpoints that the authors presented. Instead of taking an ideological stance on an issue, they explored all possible sides - weighing as many pros and cons as possible. For example, they talked about Bush and the Christian Right harming women by banning ...

Oh, How They Played the Game!
"The Glory of their Times" is a book of personality, a book of passion, in which 22 baseball players of the 1890s to the 1930s tell their stories. Originally taped by Lawrence Ritter in the 1960s, these oral remembrances are now very valuable. There are no longer any live witnesses of the earlier times. The later times are fast escaping conscious memory, setting aside the contribution of Paul ...

Magnificent
I'm just an average joe looking for a good read -- no historian here -- so look to other reviewers for that critique. Crowley has a wonderful story and tells it masterfully. I think he could turn a phone book into a great read. In fact, if he authors one, I'll buy it in hardback and sleep with it under my pillow. This one might be better than 1453. If you haven't read either, buy them ...

A worth sequel to KMT
In the second volume of this fantastic series, Great Kingdom is failing and alliances are breaking, and threats come from every direction, the west, the south, the north and even the underworld. The only ones who can stop the darking are three unlikely heroes: a self-absorbed princess, a runaway boy and a warrior elf. The book is better than Keeper Martin's Tale. The characters and situations ...

Up close and personal
Martha Raddatz has written an intense, moving book about soldiers from the First Cavalry Division under attack in Iraq in 2004 and the repercussions at their home base in Fort Hood. The sacrifice made by this division and their families is even more poignant after the tragic events of last week. This memorable book honors these soldiers and their families.

This is the best Pendragon book yet!
I don't really understand the review from the School Library Review. I am an elementary school teacher and began reading this series because it was so popular with some of my students. I really liked, "The Lost City of Faar," and "The Never War." I was, however, disppointed with the next two installments including, "The Reality Bug" and "Black Water." Because of that I wasn't sure exactly what ...

Excellent Book.
Perhaps one of the best books I've read. MacQuarrie really brings this amazing period in history back to life. It's a real page turner and like all good history books, makes you think about humanity as a whole and what we do to each other.

The Boys Of Summer...Summer Of 1869 That Is....
"If I Never Get Back" by Darryl Brock has something enjoyable for everybody. It's a historical novel with adventure, danger, action, humor, fantasy and romance, but will be especially loved by those who love time travel and baseball(and train enthusiasts as well). You'll go back in time and escape to a time with no electricity, phones, credit cards, TV, radio or cars, but in the just post civil war ...

Go Ahead And Buy It
You're reading this to figure out if you should get this book--go for it. I know the story of the Death March and have read other accounts of it, so I thought why bother with yet another one? But everyone elses' reviews made me take a chance. I've read many a book that was a great story, but it just wasn't told quite right, in the way that some people can't tell a joke or a story very well. ...
