The set only has the first 5 books, but has gorgeous color illustrations
This boxed set of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House of the Prairie series of books only contains Books 1-5 [a puzzle indeed, why couldn't the publishers have made the entire series available?]. The books in this set, in order are: Little House in the Big Woods, Farmer Boy, Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, and By the Shores of Silver Lake. Though it is not the ...

A can't-miss addition to the series!
Laura Ingalls is now eight-years-old, her sister Mary is nine, and Carrie is still just a tiny tot. While they are all still quite young, they are expected to help out with the chores around the house - from sweeping to dusting, cooking and setting the table. But this year, the girls are in a strange new place. Looking to settle in an area where a school and church are close by, and the Ingalls' ...

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
Like everyone else here --- I picked this book up when I was 10 or 11, and totally and completely fell in love with it! Although I was a total girly girl (I was reading Anne of Green Gables and Daddy-long-legs at the time) --- this book still captivated me. I read and re-read that book until it was in tatters. Finally, when I was 14 or 15, I donated during a book drive. Ever since then, I've ...

A Wonderful Book
A family friend gave me this book for Christmas in 1998. At first I was reading it as a novel. I could relate to the early part of the book, because I had been through all that myself in previous years. However, it wasn't until the middle of the book when my life and the author's life became very similar. At the time, I was believing God for a husband. I had also decided to do courtship ...

Buy these and laugh and feel good.
Janet Evanovich is such a good writer and she "keeps you in stitches" of laughter from the first page until the last one in each book. We have read all of her 14 books in the Plum series and have become familiar with the characters, which she describes to a T. Grandma Mazur, Lulu, Ranger and her main man, Joe are all real to us and when you get involved in her books in this series it is hard ...

Fond Memories
I never had anyone read this to me. I stumbled upon it during library time at good old Woodmore Elementary in Bowie MD. I bet it's still there. I loved this book from the moment I opened it. I loved the story, the hard cover, the size of the book, the way the old brittle pages felt as I turned the pages, and even the way the old pages smelled in 1974 (the book had been out for about 20 years ...

Hooked on Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum Series
After reading these books I can understand why she is always on the Best Sellers list. After reading these 3 I went out and bought the whole series. Stephanie Plum is sassy, sexy and funny. Love the whole cast of characters. I laughed at loud at the antics of Grandma Mazur and Lula, love the sexual tension between her and Morreli and Ranger and the nerve-wracking situations she gets her self ...

My, how American life has changed
"Little House in the Big Woods" is a perfect way to educate your children about pioneering in the United States. Growing up in the woods of antebellum Wisconsin, Ingalls recalls the details, both big and small, of settler life. The world is much different today than it was back then, and this book displays that perfectly. The Ingalls' were very self-sufficient people, and had to care for each ...

Another must have!
It's very rare to find decent books on the Chinese martial arts. Here, however, is a really great book on traditional wushu (kung fu). This is not a how-to book, though you will find ideas for your own practice if you look and consider. As the other reviewers mention, this is a collection of essays on traditional Chinese martial arts. These essays range from short, topical op-ed pieces to ...

Truly a Classic!
Ms. Fauset was one of the most underrated members of the Harlem Renaissance. Plum Bun is by far the strongest of her novels. I saw more in this story than simply a discussion of color and privilege, I was pleased by the complexity of the relationship between the two sisters in this novel. Ms. Fauset is one of my literary favorites, and a woman that I truly admire. I recommend this book ...

Fantastic fun!
I just literally stumbled across this book at a friend's house and was enchanted by it! Her son asked me to read it to him, while mine started to wander off, but two pages in both boys were hooked. The illustrations are amazing and the story is a delight. I've been telling everyone about it all day, "And then Plum was a frisbee!" I'm buying this for my son right away, and will probably buy ...

Anything by this author is good.
My daughter (2) is a little young for this book yet, but I read it and think it is wonderful for children. If you have children about 6 or older who are having a difficult time or are angry about something, this book would be great. Even if your children are happy though, there are wonderful lessons here for everyone and that can help the world to become a more peaceful place.

The best of Classical Guitar Transcribed & Played
The Progressive Popular Classics series have come to us from Australia and turn out to be some of the best of the genre. Each book is accompanied by a CD of the author playing every piece in the book. The CD alone is worth the price, as it is a compilation of justifiably popular classics written for or transcribed for the guitar and beautifully performed. The tyro should get Mr. Waldron's ...

4½ A Delicous Version of How the West was Won
This is the vegan version of "Oregon Trail," an ancient computer game that was once -played on the Apple IIe, and featured "blam-blam" cheesy sounds as you gunned down moose, dear, and bear. Here, there's no fishing or hunting, but you follow the same trail past Chimney and Courthouse Rock, ford a river, climb the Rockies, and raft down the Columbia River to Oregon. Although I wondered the book ...

Fascinating Plot - Superb Translation
David Tod Roy's translation of the classic 16th century Chin P'ing Mei is awesome and right on the money. The story leaps off the pages - this is how this famous vernacular Chinese novel was meant to be read! Every element of the story is clear and concise in Roy's translation, allowing the reader to enjoy the plot and the fascinating characters. To briefly discuss the storyline, Chin P'ing ...

Using her mother's name as a pseudonym may seem strange, but Linda Tuck-Jenkins, a/k/a Mary Clay, chose this route because her DAFFODILS murder mysteries series is a change of pace from her first book, STARPEOPLE: THE SIRIAN REDEMPTION. Although Tuck-Jenkins originally followed a career path in mathematics and economics, she never forgot her love of mysteries which began with Carolyn Keene's ...
