Student Solutions Manual for Stewart/Redlin/Watson's Precalculus: Mathematics for Calculus, 5th3 reviews
James Stewart, Lothar Redlin, ...

Brooks Cole, 2005

Very useful
I found this product relatively useful. There were a few sections where the answers could have held more detail--mostly in the first few chapters--but by the third I found that the work-throughs for the problems helped me immensely in understanding the mathematics involved. Even though it only explains half the problems, it's still a great help. I would recommend buying this to other ...

High School Pre-Calculus Tutor (High School Tutors)1 review
The Staff of REA

Research & Education Association, 1996

Great book, but...
...on page 34, Problem 6-8, the answer given to B is what happens when 8E-8 is divided by 4.3E-5, but the problem asks the reader to multiply the two numbers, thereby obtaining the answer 3.44E-9 instead of the book's answer, 1.860.

Precalculus, Second Edition3 reviews
Robert F. Blitzer

Prentice Hall, 2003

Excellent!
I used this book instead of listening to the teacher's lectures and I did really great in the class! This is a great book to use in class and study form it alone!

Pre-Calculus For Dummies (For Dummies (Math & Science))2 reviews
Krystle Rose Forseth, Christopher Burger, ...

For Dummies, 2008

Good book but not perfect
The aim of this book is to introduce the subjects of pre-calculus in an easy, yet complete way. For the most part it accomplish it's objective, nevertheless, it has some typos and errors that will cause the student to get confused (i.e. the first time the student is shown the formula for the difference of cubes the book says something like this (a-b)(a^2+ab+b^3) which is wrong and in latter ...

Pre-Calculus Demystified9 reviews
Rhonda Huettenmueller

McGraw-Hill Professional, 2005

At last. At long last
I am one of those pathetic cases who should have been a math major, but could not stay awake during the freshman pre-calc lectures conducted by bored and boring grad students. Now, nearly 40 years later I am determined to self-educate my way through calculus. At first I took a crack at the Wiley "Precalculus A Self Teaching Guide". Holy cripes, what a disaster! Unnerving to find such an ...

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Precalculus11 reviews
W. Michael Kelley

Alpha, 2005

Absolutely essential
Don't even think of starting calculus unless you have read this book. Even in the best of educations there is always something that remains uncertain and this book will clear those things up. Don't leave home without it!

Contemporary Pre-Calculus: A Graphing Approach5 reviews
Thomas W. Hungerford

Harcourt, 1996

Good book, although the images are not to my tastes
This book is different from many others, as the graphing calculator is an integral part of the instruction. A large number of the images are nothing more than what a graphing calculator will present when asked to plot a segment of a particular function. Since the material is standard precalculus, the decision whether to adopt this text will be largely based on your opinion concerning the role of ...

Precalculus: Mathematics for Calculus, Enha Review Edition (with CD-ROM and iLrn™ Printed Access Card)13 reviews
James Stewart, Lothar Redlin, ...

Brooks Cole, 2007

Precalculus: Matheatics for Calculus: 5th Edition (with CD-rom)
I have never used the CD, but the book is okay. If you are going to take calculus in the future than you should get a cheaper precalculus book and save some money. This is essentially the same as the 4th edition, except the price tag. Only get if you absolutely must for a class.

Pre-Calculus Problem Solver (REA) (Problem Solvers)8 reviews
The Staff of REA, Dennis C. Smolarski

Research & Education Association, 1984

In a word: Excellent
This is the book to go to to remember how to do all those mathematical things, before calculus, we used to know but either forgot, took for granted, or shortcut and circumvented. Perfect example: solving inequalities involving absolute values -> the method I was using was producing right answers, however it was 'shotcutting' rather than solving the problem properly and robustly. Had a look ...

Homework Helpers: Pre-Calculus1 review
Denise, Ph.D. Szecsei

Career Press, 2007

EASY TO FOLLOW: what I need
This book is excellent. I needed something to help me prepare for my college algebra and trig class and this was the perfect selection. The author is avoids using fancy math lingo and explains everything in an easy format. It really feels like I have personal tutor and honestly, this book is probably better than some professors who teach college math classes. I would recommend this book to ANYONE ...

Fundamentals of Precalculus1 review
Mark Dugopolski

Addison Wesley, 2003

Math textbook delivers
Well, there isn't much I could say about this textbook, but it did do its job. The textbook had examples and explanations for every section, followed by exercises for practice. I will say though, it was nice that the book is relatively thin compared to other calculus textbooks I saw my friends lugging around. The textbook was precise and to the point.

Teach Yourself Calculus3 reviews
Hugh Neill

McGraw-Hill, 2003

The benefits of reading and using "Teach Yourself Calculus"
Hundreds of Calculus texts claim to teach this rich field of mathematics easily or well. Most texts send students running out of class. As an educator, my goal is to explain all of the fundamental techniques of Calculus, with their proofs, in a manner and pace that a tenth grade inner-city student can comprehend. I believe this is quite feasible using this book as a comprehensive guide if the ...

Precalculus: With Calculus Previews

Consistent with Professor Zill's eloquent writing style, this four-color text offers numerous ...

Master Math: Pre-Calculus and Geometry (Master Math Series)4 reviews
Debra Anne Ross

Delmar Cengage Learning, 1996

Great book. Lots of good trig.
This book is pretty small but it gives great explanations of geometric shapes, angles, and trig functions like tan, sin, cos, and others. It's straight to the point and I learned from it very quickly. I highly suggest getting this book before moving on to a more advanced, or even just a regular geometry or trig book.
