The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Board Book PERFECT Option for Babies
This is a perennial staple in the children's books collection I've amassed over the years. When my son started showing interest in being read-to, I pulled out my trusty old, paperback version of this book. BIG NO NO with a teething baby. Our local children's librarian said that it's a great idea to allow babies to explore 'reading' with all senses, including mouth. As my little guy ...
Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
Child's Play International, 2002
My grandson loves it
I bought this book for my grandson who is now 10 months old. He loves looking at the pictures and watching his Nana make a fool of herself while she sings the song. I like the fact that the music notes are included on the back of the book. I had forgotten the melody so that really helped.
Moo Baa La La La
Love this book!
I didn't know what all the hype was over these books until we read them. My daughter who is 10 months LOVES this book...she loves the part when the "three singing pigs say LA LA LA" she loves to say LALALA....then at the end when you read it's quiet now what do you say"- She goes LALALALALA so funny! This has become our new favorite book- I highly recommend this!

Bob Books, Set 1: Beginning Readers
Bobby Lynn Maslen
The rhythm of the Bob books is the key to reading success!
Words Aren't Fair By Martha Biery, author of Words Aren't Fair As a reading specialist, my favorite starter books are the Bob books. There is nothing like simple words with lots of repetition to get kids to the point where they experience success. It might seem too simple to you as adults, but trust me, as a teacher for 40 years, this is the way it starts - with the Bob books. Some kids ...
Margaret Wise Brown
great book to share
I have purchased this book time and time again as a baby shower gift. It is a classic book that I love to share and give as a gift.
The Very Fairy Princess
Emma Walton Hamilton
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Beautiful Book with a Strong Message
"The Very Fairy Princess" is a charming and witty story about young Geraldine, who believes with her entire being that she is a fairy princess -- even when others do not. She believes because she feels it inside. Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton have written a brilliant story with a very strong message and creative language every little girl will remember and want to use. The book ...
Pinkalicious: Pinkalicious and the Pink Drink
Filled with whimsical, imaginative, nostalgic illustrations
"Pinkalicious and the Pink Drink" is a charming episode in the "Pinkalicious" series which includes "Pinkalicious," Purplicious," "Goldalicious," and more. Pinkalicious, a spunky, resourceful young entrepreneur, decides she will earn money to buy pink bubble gum balls by making and selling pink lemonade, on a hot day. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
Bill Martin Jr.
Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
Never Too Young to Learn to Read
Dr.Martin has demonstrated the beauty of repetition in developing vocabulary in young children. The colors will excite the toddler and instill a love of reading. His companion book, "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" follows the identical technique. However, as a childhood educator, Dr. Martin should know that snakes do not have ears and cannot hear. But Eric Carle's hissing boa ...
Where Is Baby's Belly Button?
Still Being Read
This book has been through three little kids now, and still going. My two-year old grandson loves it, and his 6-year old sister is able to read it to him.
Llama Llama Red Pajama
This book is awesome!
I was reading some of the 1 star reviews and I think it's a little bit wacky for those parents to say that this book sends a bad message. It's a fantastic book and it's very clever. My children know it word for word and they think it's funny. Every parent gets busy at sometime or another when a child wants something. We can not be at their beck and call 24/7! It's important for a child to ...
The Lion & the Mouse
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
I bought this book on a recommendation from my friend. The story is a classic and loving story that took me back to my childhood. We improv-ed and had a fantastic time filling in the story line using the pictures - My son (3) and my daughter (6) both enjoyed the book. My son was a little more curious about the pictures and after we read the book, he quietly turned the pages and looked at the ...
Nice book, the last page as some people mentioned generate a good reaction in my son.... try it.
Pat the Bunny (Touch and Feel Book)
I'm astonished by the fact that the negative reviews all focus on the binding, and how a kid will tear or chew the book apart. Books are not chew toys. They are meant to be handled with some care. What do these parents do? Throw the book in the crib and hope their kid will grow up a great reader?
Ladybug Girl at the Beach
My daughter loves this series
My daughter is an avid Lady Bug girl reader. In fact her alter ego is now Lady Bug Girl when she needs to be brave. I really enjoyed this book because it goes along with trying something new and that even if you are a little scared at first, if you try it you might find you like it. Great story.
Brain Quest Workbook: Pre-K

My Son Enjoys Learning with this Book
My son, age almost 4, has a few preschool workbooks. He really loves "playing school" and works in his activity books frequently. This book is one of his favorite. It has lots of color and age-appropriate activities. He has mastered many of the skills but this book is still a challenge for him in other areas. There are stickers in the back that include a page of "Good Job" "Excellent" "Nice Work" ...
Fancy Nancy: Ooh La La! It's Beauty Day
Ooh La La! Another Nancy gem!
I have a daughter who is just like fancy Nancy, so every time a new book in this series comes out we make a special day of it. We go to our independant childrens bookstore in our town to get it and then to the ice cream parlor 2 doors down and have parfaits with sprinkles. Back home, I usually have to read the book a lot of times in a row, and this one was no exception! I'm not going to spoil the ...
Bob Books Set 2-Advancing Beginners
Bobby Lynn Maslen
good choice for 5-6 year old
These books have been just right for my six year old son. The content is both challenging and readable. The result is that he is having fun reading them and building confidence. I also like the size of the books, length of the stories and amusing pictures. It all adds up to an enjoyable reading experience for children of this age.
