Presentation Zen: Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery163 reviews
Garr Reynolds

New Riders Press, 2008

The Antidote for Death By PowerPoint
A great book that reminds every would-be presenter to keep it simple (stupid). Lots of real-world examples. If you have to give a presentation this is required reading. Having said that, it does not address handouts in detail (nor should it). Pages 66-67 are dedicated to basic dos and don'ts on handouts, but you'll need to look elsewhere for advice on that aspect.

The Non-Designer's Presentation Book6 reviews
Robin Williams

Peachpit Press, 2009

Finally, a presentation book that fills the void
Most presentation books focus on how to present as a presenter and how to "not design" powerpoint slides. This book finally provides the non-designers out here, myself included, how to build great looking slides that also enhance the presentation. First, I must admit to being a huge fan of the Non-Designer's Design Book and the Non-Designer's Web Design Book. I think they are two of the best ...

The Craft of Scientific Presentations: Critical Steps to Succeed and Critical Errors to Avoid14 reviews
Michael Alley

Springer, 2002

Great way to structure presentations
This book suggests ways to go beyond the "stock" powerpoint style presentation scheme of titles and bullets to create better presentations. What do I mean by better? Basically, the goal is to create a more narrative presenation. Rather than a presentation of lists of facts, a good scientific presentation also tells a story, and at the same time elucidates a finding in clear detail. Getting ...

Erving Goffman

Peter Smith Pub Inc, 1999

What happens when you appear in front of others
In this valuable study Dr Goffman examines what happens when an individual appears in front of others. Usually the individual mobilizes his activity in order to convey an impression to others which it is in his interest to convey. This process is called impression management and it occurs in practically every social interaction. Each participant is expected to suppress his feelings and to convey ...

Clear and to the Point: 8 Psychological Principles for Compelling PowerPoint Presentations15 reviews
Stephen M. Kosslyn

Oxford University Press, USA, 2007

The most helpful PowerPoint book that I've seen
I have recently been preparing to give presentations during academic job interviews and although I've given countless ppt presentations, I still felt ineffective in my use of the medium. I have tried reading other books (Why Most PowerPoint Presentations Suck, for example), but have found little use in them. This book, though based on visual processing research, is presented clearly and ...
