Like watching the movie "Groundhogs Day", only without the jokes
By Cameron Castle: I just finished "The War Within: A Secret Whitehouse History 2006 to 2008." by Bob Woodward. It should have been titled, "Letting The Fox In The Henhouse." Woodward's first two surprisingly positive books about President Bush allowed him unbelievable access to the inner workings of the Bush White house. It was both fascinating and tedious at the same time. The point of story ...

Fantastic read
I'm not a history buff, but I fell in love with this book. The author did a wonderful job describing how Lincoln built his cabinet with his political rivals, the complex relationships between the men and dynamic personalities... I learned a great deal about Lincoln's presidency, Civil War and the various leaders from that era. It's a great read!
Change We Can Believe In: Barack Obama's Plan to Renew America's Promise

cometh the hour cometh the man
Barack Obama's latest book, Change We Can Believe In, is indeed a sincere attempt to put forth his views and plans to renew America. The amount of thought he has put behind his seven arousing speeches speaks volume of the quality of a leader passionately engaged in envisioning problems specific to America and its global role while not forgetting its glorious idealistic past. Like his other ...

American Biographer: Jon Meacham
American Lion is a wonderfully crafted biography about an incredibly interesting and oft-overlooked American who helped shaped this country. Meacham evenhandedly discusses the good, the bad, and the really ugly and comes up with a revealing and insightful study of a truly fascinating subject. I highly recommend American Lion and Meacham's other books, American Gospel and Franklin and Winston, ...

Superb but short work on the greatness of Lincoln's role as commander in chief
A wonderful, brief look at how our nation's greatest President led the North's armed forces during the Civil War. Though it may cover territory other historians have mined in longer efforts, James M. McPherson's "Tried by War" is essential reading for those not extremely well versed in matters concerning the War Between the States. Having not read any Civil War history in a number of years, ...

Ron Paul is brilliant...
I am 20 years old, and first stumbled upon Ron Paul back when he originally declared his intent to run for President. I'd heard his name before, and immediately began seeing "Who is Ron Paul?" chalked all around campus. I always considered myself "conservative," but am attending school at a former East-coast hotbed for left wing radicalism (and where more than 85% of the people voted for Obama ...

Great First 100 Days
The most interesting book on FDR I've ever read. I learned a lot more about the state of our nation when FDR was elected and what FDR did to keep our republic on a more democratic path. I'm sure our new President-elect and his staff are reading this book so they can learn how to make great things happen in Washington in only 100 days.

Fascinating and in depth...
Like another reviewer, my larger introduction to John Adams was through the 1970s musical "1776". I became aware of David McCullough after purchasing his (unrelated) book, also called "1776". When I saw "John Adams" on a bookstore shelf, I cracked it open and was immediately intrigued. McCullough keeps the story moving, without dismissing details that help fill in a sense of time, place and ...

You can't understand the Bush presidency unless you read this book!
The best book of 2008, none I've read thus far even compare. Angler is an incredibly illuminating book into the most unique vice presidency in American history. I would also argue, after having read about a dozen books on President Bush and his Administration; that you cannot truly understand the failures of the Bush Administration and the woeful performance of the GOP in the past eight years ...

This is a great book - clearly written, easy reading, good examples, good references to other books/websites/sources. I highly recommend it to anyone designing websites, and parts of it to anyone who is hiring someone else to design or redesign their site. By using the methods described in this book and looking at other sites the person has done, you will better assess the quality of the person ...

great book
Obama is a great actor. He tricks people into thinking he cares about them, when in fact he is just another crafty politician with his own hidden agendas. So many people are being fooled and tricked into liking him that it is like a cult. Hitler had these same qualities, and look what happened. Please wake up people! Turn off the TV and turn back on your brain and don't be fooled. Ralph Nader ...

Martin Gilbert and William Manchester have written muti-volume biographies of the long and fascinating life of Winston Churchill. Mr. D'este has a narrow focus of exploring ...

Poignant Portrayal of a Fictional First Lady
I have never read a book by this author before, Curtis Sittenfeld, and did not know she is a woman...and I think it takes a woman to "get" all the emotions a female goes through, from adolescence to "old" age. This book is a fictional account of a woman, Alice Blackwell, who grew up in the small town of Riley, Wisconsin. The description of her town made me yearn for the simpler times, when ...

Portrait of an unprecedented campaign
This beautifully produced photo book chronicles Barack Obama's presidential campaign. There are no official "posed" photographs. They all appear to be candids, all 150 of them. Dozens of photographers contributed, including the famed Annie Leibovitz. Her relaxed portrait of Obama is in the introduction to the book. Topics range from the obviously historic to the small and intimate. Huge ...
